Welcome

But for me it is good to be near God. — Psalm 73:28

We have no greater privilege than to draw near to God. We come to him through the merit of Christ crucified. We come by the power of the Holy Spirit. And we come with God’s promise that he will draw near to us (James 4:8).

If your faith has not yet come to rest in Christ, and if God is awakening in your heart a desire to take the next step, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact the pastor or speak to him as you leave the sanctuary. A husband and wife team will also be available at the front of the sanctuary following the service to speak with anyone interested in exploring what it means to know Jesus Christ or to join this church.

May our gracious Lord draw near to you wonderfully in this service today.

The Theme: Encouragement in and a healthy view of our service to God

The Vocal Prelude - I am Thine, O Lord ........................................................... PinkstonKathleen Chandler

(The congregation is invited to read 1 Corinthians 3:1-10 page 1774 in the pew Bible) I am thine, O Lord, I have heard thy voice, and it told thy love to me;But I long to rise in the arms of faith and be closer drawn to thee.

Draw me nearer, draw me nearer to the cross where thou hast died;Draw me nearer, blessed Savior, to thy precious, bleeding side.

Consecrate me now to thy service, Lord by the power of grace divine.Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope and my will be lost in thine.

There are depths of love that I cannot know till I cross the narrow sea. There are heights of joy that I may not reach till I rest in peace with thee.

Nearer, Lord.

† The Peace

† The Call to Worship .............................................................................Psalm 145:17-21

The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made.

The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.

The LORD watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.

My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD. Let every creature praise his holy name forever and ever. The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Let us worship God.

† The Invocation

† The Confession of Faith ................................................................The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.* The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The grass withers and the flowers fall,

But the Word of our God stands forever.

The Personal Confession of Sin

The Corporate Confession of Sin (Please kneel)

O gracious and loving Father, your majesty is beyond full description, your glory more than our sinful eyes could withstand to see,and your holiness fills the heavens.

Yet, your mercy pursues us in dark and guilty places, your grace unveils our faces, and your holiness reaches down to where we are, transforming us into instruments of your redeeming love.

We marvel that you would use us.May we never cease our wonderment at your amazing grace.May we be always bold and broken,

as we seek to lead others into your truth.Forgive us, Lord, our sins, which are many.Melt the icy casualness with which we approach you.Purge the love of our favorite sins.Enflame a single passion for your glory in our lives.Create a deep hunger within us,

and satisfy that longing with more of your Son,the only Savior we need, Jesus Christ. Amen!

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace ................................................................. Isaiah 1:18

“Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

† The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer (Please stand)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.Thy kingdom come.Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread,And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Offertory - If God Be For Us ..........................................................................Handel

If God be for us, who can be against us?Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea ratherthat is risen again, who is at the right hand of God,who makes intercession for us.
