Our Sympathy to ...Donna and Don Caywood, in the death of Donna’s mom, Joanne Schroth. Mission and Ministries (M & M) Dollar Day Report Thanks to all contributors to our Sunday, July 2, M & M offering. Your generous “extra mile” giving amounted to $333.00. An additional amount of $993.00 from the Missions Committee makes our total amount $1326.00. A special thanks also to our children “bucket holders” who stationed themselves, with adult help, at our sanctuary exits. Our next “M & M Bucket Offering” will be Sunday, July 30. These “Dollar Day” offerings greatly support our Great Plains Annual Conference mission opportunities. Tech Help We need additional persons willing to help run sound and video for our worship services on Sunday mornings. David Bartley, Patty Ruzich, and Mattie Predmore are our primary technicians and periodically they need to be gone and we need some backup. If you would be interested in being trained to help us cover this important part of our wor-ship time contact the church office and we will be scheduling a time for training. Thank you! Pastor Kent

Our Sympathy to Molly Allen, in the death of her brother-in-law.

Congratulations to Bob Rogers on receiving the Robert J. Dole Distinguished Service Award. This award was launched in 2015 by the Wichita-based PBS station, KPTS, to recognize work done by businesses or individuals and their support in helping our veterans. Robert J. Dole was the first recipient in 2015. Bob Rogers, a member of College Hill UMC, was the second recipient in 2016. Congratulations Bob! Please come by the church office to see his award (shown above).

Living in the Moment Meditation is about compassion, interconnectedness and having an open heart. Join us as we gather the First Wednesday of each month starting in August. We will gather in the CHUM Chapel from 6:30 - 7:30pm. Styles of meditation that will be explored are: *Mala Meditation: A mala is a string of beads used for prayer and meditation. Malas are used with a mantra (chant) and provide a tactile meditation experience. *Walking Meditation: A form of meditation in action. We become mindful of our experience while walking and try to keep our awareness involved with the experience of walking. *Mindful Breathing: Simply focus attention on the inhale and exhale. Also alternate nostril breathing will be explored. *Guided Meditation: Meditation in response to guidance provided by a person or a written text or sound recording. A self-reflective journal or diary is recommended. The mental benefits of meditation are that anxiety decreases, emotional stability improves, creativity and happiness increases, intuition develops, gain clarity and peace of mind, and problems become smaller. The physical benefits of meditation are lower blood pressure, decreases tension-related pain and insomnia, improves the immune system and in-creases energy level. The classes are free although donations will be accepted. For more info, you can contact: Beth Ann Larsen, LSCSW, by phone @ (512) 923-2384, by email @ [email protected] . Beth Ann attends the 10:15 am worship service so you may also visit with her before or after the service! Christmas in July Sacks There are still sacks available to be picked up and returned by July 23rd. These items will be delivered to Cookson Hills United Methodist Mission to be sold in their gift shop at a discounted price for Christmas gifts.

Thanks to ALL who helped with the July 4th Bash! It wouldn’t be possible without all the people behind the scenes who work to pull off this Special Sunday Celebration and make it a success. Thanks to the men who worked so hard cooking the

hamburgers and hot dogs and to those who served the meal. Also a big thank you to the youth and parents that helped at the serving table and to clean up afterwards. Lastly, a big thanks to the committee that puts this event on every year. This year it was the 8th Annual Celebration and

College Hill UMC Church Council and Combined Committee June 12, 2017

Those present: Did not pick up the attendance sheet, sor ry. Call to Order: Chair Don called the meeting to order . Opening Reflections: There were not any. Minutes: The minutes for the May 8 meeting Tom moved to accept with cor rection – should be Asbury not

Aldersgate. A second was received and motion carried. Finance: Chair Clarice shared Finances are not looking very bright. May offering was $15,000. Clarice asked the

Council for a way to better reach Congregation regarding the giving. There were several ideas presented on how to receive more income. One is a trivia game. Kent spoke on funding budget and stated how much has been cut from the budget in the 7 years he has been here. If there is a need to cut any more, it will really affect the ministries of CHUM. A discussion was then held and many ideas were presented. Each person knows that we have a hill to climb if we are to become sustainable.

Staff/Parish: Kent shared that Sunday will be the farewell event for Ashley. There have been six or seven applications received for the Children Ministry Coordinator. This position hopefully will be filled by the time for VBS. Trustees: Vice Chair Sharon Peter s shared the following:

Parlor A/C electrical has been installed Working on the sanctuary lighting. Trees have been trimmed. The Boiler/sump pump has been addressed New banner has been purchased and is on the outside tower The A/C for the basement cannot be done this year for lack of funds.

Marketing: Chair Ar len stated there will be pictures for a new CHUM Directory taken. Help is needed for

check-in and orders on these dates: June 23rd from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. and June 24th from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. For the addition of cell phone numbers and email addresses, it will cost $25 and this has been paid. Also there have been 100 additional copies ordered for $30.

Leadership: no repor t UMW: (please note that the Wednesday evening women ’s group, led by Amy Hodgson-Smith, continues to mee on the 4th Wednesday of the month.) Youth: Br ian shared there are 30 kids for Summer Rec. The Middle School Mission tr ip is to KC and they leave on

June 25th and the High School Mission Trip is in July to Dallas. Children: Ashley shared there is a team of four women who will be helping oversee VBS. Sunday School is covered through August. The Summer Rec. intern is running the administrative side of this program. Additional Items: Don shared we should be looking at an event for next year dur ing MKL, J r . and invite Bishop Oliveto for the Justice/Civil Rights and the Leadership Team be responsible for part of this event. There needs to be a core group that begin making plans. Pastor Report: Will be gone the last two weeks of June attending school in Tulsa. The July 4 th event will be service in the sanctuary at 10:00 a.m. followed by a cookout of hamburgers and hot dogs. The neighborhood fire department and their families have been invited to attend. Then a report on Annual Conference:

Annual Conference will be closing all three offices, Lincoln, Topeka, and Wichita and locating one office in Topeka. Clergy health insurance – group vs individual or allow them to purchase their own as it is now Adding gender equality Accountability to council of Bishops Immigration and Refugees

The first Lunch with the Pastor was attended by eight people and four were relatively new. Ashley was asked to close the meeting with prayer. Respectfully submitted, Darlene Scheffer
