Sunshine Lady Newsby Sunshine Lady Lillian Rossi

Mary Jane Cambria's nephew passed away. Mary Ann Valenzuela has not been feeling

well, we hope she is on the mend real soon. Happy 4th of July to all of our members and their families. Enjoy our American Holiday and, most of all, be safe. If you know of anyone who is ill or hospitalized, please contact me at 1-949-916-0761 or e-mail [email protected].

Orange International Street Fair(Submitted by Al Rossi, Chair )

It is that time of year again, the Street Fair is fast approaching!!!! Please see attached in this issue of the La Campana the Volunteer Sign Up Sheet. If you haven't already signed up, please do so. The Street Fair Committee is working very hard to make this year's Street Fair a huge success but we can't do it alone. We need your help. This is your lodge!!! It is the Volunteers who will make this year's Street Fair a success. Please mail the sign up sheet to Al Rossi at the address listed on the form or it can be e-mailed to me at [email protected].

Grazie to all the wonderful women who brought awesome dishes to the “Father's Day Dinner” and

volunteers! Neither the lodge nor I could have done it without you, plus it made the night a great success. Look for Hank's call near the first of July regarding bringing “Deviled Eggs” to the July 16th dinner in honor of Independence Day.

Beautiful New Lodge Website Up and Running!

We now have a public website to let the public know of our contributions to our community:

renaissancelodge2259.com.

Our sonsofitalyca.org/renaissance website is still being used, but it's more for internal information, i.e. sign up sheets and

internal information.

There are currently six pages to our new website:1. Our Mission Statement with pictures.2. Community involvement: This is where we can post articles regarding our involvement in our community.3. Contact Information: This is a form for prospective members who have no affiliation from anyone within the lodge to get information. This information is then directed to the email address 4. Newsletters: This is for the posting of our monthly La Campana. This link redirects users to a website called “issuu” that also has other publications listed below ours. Allowing that website to do this makes it free for us to post our newsletter there.5. Events: This is for any events such as Columbus Day to be publicized or past events to be archived. 6. Lodge Election Information: Any information having to do with lodge elections will be placed here.Going forward, additional pages may be added as needed.

My involvement with the Renaissance Lodge has been a crash course in interpersonal interaction. (Way too much in some instances.) I've always felt a bond towards my Italian heritage. In High School I had a friend who was full blooded Italian and he said to me, “Either you are Italian or you want to be.” This new website is catered towards letting our community know our beliefs, our contributions and our love of all things Italian. I will gladly place information onto the website, but I will not be able to place everything we do. Send any correspondence regarding the new website to

dissemination of

[email protected].

July 20, 2014 Nessuno Mi Può Giudicare (Escort in Love)Directed by: Massimiliano Bruno2011, Comedy, 95 minutes

Thirty-five year old Alice lives in a nice house in Rome. She has a husband, a nine year old son and three immigrant housekeepers. Her life seems a beautiful dream, but it soon turns out to be a nightmare. Her husband, an entrepreneur in the field of bathroom fittings, dies in a car accident and her lawyer tells her that she is on her uppers. She now has to figure out something for saving her son's and her own lives. The only way she finds to earn money in short time is to do the oldest job in history. She searches for information on the Internet and finds someone who's been doing this job for years: Eva. Eva is a beautiful woman in her thirties apparently superficial and cynical. A lighthearted farce with thought-provoking deeper meaning.

August 17, 2014 Benvenuto, Presidente! (Welcome, Mr. President!)Directed by: Riccardo Milani2013, Comedy, 100 minutes

In a small mountain village lives a man with the famous name of Giuseppe Garibaldi, known by everybody as Peppino. Through a series of missteps and coincidences, Peppinoi, the local librarian and fisherman, has been elected president of Italy. Having agreed to renounce the post, he changes his mind once he sees how things really operate. He is an “everyman” thrust

into a powerful position, making changes he has only dreamed of.

Benvenuto, Presidente is a hilarious combination of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington meets the Keystone cops with an homage to anarchy and Janis Joplin. A new comedy by Riccardo Milani, the film unmasks corruption in the Italian government and offers the country an education in personal responsibility. The film calls the citizens of Italy to civic accountability through the metaphor of an ordinary man forced to grapple with the difficult and overwhelming task of being a responsible citizen.

September 21, 2014 L’Aria Salata (The Salty Air)Directed by: Alessandro Angelini2006, Drama, 87 minutes

An embittered penitentiary social worker receives an unwelcome blast from the past when the case file of his father, a convicted murderer who has been emotionally broken by prison life, lands on his desk in director Alessandro Angelini's tense family drama. As a child, Fabio (Giorgio Pasotti) was abandoned by his father when the man was found guilty of murder and locked away on an extended sentence. Now a passionate social worker whose job it is to monitor prisoners and recommend them for day leaves of probation when he sees fit, Fabio nevertheless remains extremely hardened by his fatherless youth. Soon after Fabio callously rejects an offer for a better paying job by the well-off father of his girlfriend Emily (Katy Saunders), he notices a familiar face in his latest batch of assignments. Despite the fact that it has been two decades since Fabio has seen his father Sparti (Giorgio Colangeli), he instantly recognizes the photograph in the file as his long-lost dad and soon commences to torment the man - who remains clueless that Fabio is, in fact, his son - with a vicious torrent of verbal and psychological abuse. Later, when the pair ventures into the suburbs on a day leave, the details of the long ago murder gradually begins to bubble to the surface as Fabio takes his father to visit their family, who still harbor deep-seeded feelings of resentment and anger towards the now-remorseful convict.

RENAISSANCE LODGE #2259ORDER SONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING MINUTESJune 18, 2014

Submitted by Bernadine Liuzzi-Neil, Recording Secretary

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by President David Prisco at 6:35 pm. Officers present were: President David Prisco; Vice President Al Rossi; Immediate Past President Andy Pampuro; Recording Secretary Bernadine Liuzzi-Neil; Treasurer Michelle Lowinger; Financial Secretary Pat Dito; Trustees: Paul Licata, Steve Tomeo, Mary Lou Jeffries, and Hank Lowinger; Orator Tony Coco; Sentinel John Alfieri. Mistress of Ceremonies Marilyn Vecchio and Trustee Mary Jane Cambria were excused. Frank DeSantis and John Russo represented the OCAIRF and the Italian Arts Council. Chaplain John Alfieri gave the invocation. Immediate Past President Andy Pampuro led the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silence was observed for our sick and departed members and for the members of our armed services. A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from the May meeting as they appeared in La Campana. The motion carried unanimously.

NIGHT AT THE RACES: Pat Dito announced that the event will be held on Friday, August 2nd. The cost is $43 per person and includes free parking. Dinner is at 6:00 p.m. We will have a race dedicated to our Lodge and be able to take photos with the winning horse and jockey.

TUSTIN BOCCE COURTS: At long last, four years after Tony Coco first delivered his petition to the Tustin City Council, the foundation for two courts has been poured, the surface of the courts and surrounding pavers are in place, and a grand opening is scheduled for 30 days after completion. That would put it some time in mid- or late July. The City is asking for representation from the Renaissance Lodge at that opening, specifically a couple of good players who would be willing and articulate enough to give a short demonstration of a game to the attending crowd. Tony would like to hear from at least two, maybe four, members who fit that description. He is willing to give the crowd a short history of bocce and a brief explanation of the rules while the players are demonstrating. Tony will keep us all informed as the date is set. He and Steve Tomeo are preparing a Power Point show displaying the construction photos from groundbreaking to completion. Please email Tony at [email protected] and let him know you will try to be there. The more members we can turn out in the audience the more likely the City will be inclined to give us preference in scheduling play dates and other privileges

STREET FAIR: Al Rossi reported that the Street Fair Committee is working hard to make certain we are in compliance with all the regulations. Booths will be decorated and awarded prizes and Al said “they will know we are Italians and Sons of Italy.” We need a lot of volunteers to make this a success. Please recruit as many people as possible to help out. Sign up sheets are in La Campana.

GRAND LODGE 365 RAFFLE: Andy Pampuro explained the 365 raffle. There is a $25 winner every day and a $50 winner on the last day of the month. On holidays, the winner gets $200; except for Columbus Day, which is a $500 award. Andy announced that his wife Louise just won $200. Tickets are $30 and winning tickets are put back so that even the past winners have more chances to win. Andy has the ticket books. Checks are sent directly to the Grand Lodge.

INITIATION OF NEW MEMBERS: Lead by our Membership Chair Tom Rizzo, we initiated ten new members into our Lodge. Tom was supported by Herald Frank De Santis, Andy Pampuro who read the definition of Liberty, Al Rossi who read the

definition of Equality and Tony Coco who read the definition of Fraternity. Mistress of Ceremonies Lucy Gallo led the candidates to the podium for the formal initiation. The following new members were present for the ceremony: Andy and Gwen Ginocchio, Dorothy Caruso, Charles Celano, Jr., Alan Schlappy, Tom Stroud, Santo Zito, Angel Valenzuela, Ron Einwick and Gaylene Lowinger. After the “swearing in” ceremony, new members were presented with their certificates, pins, and name badges. During our dinner, each new member addressed the audience with a few words about him/herself.

PRESENTATION OF SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarship Committee Chair John Russo, Committee member Bernadine Liuzzi-Neil and Commendatore Frank DeSantis presented the scholarships. The three recipients of the Reaissance Lodge's $1000 Scholarship Awards for 2014 are: (Noel) Alex Perez (Franciscan University at Steubenville), Angelica De Angelo (University of La Verne) and Joshua Nuzzo (Chapman University). Frank DeSantis also presented the $2500 Henry Salvatori Scholarship from the Grand Lodge of California to Joshua Nuzzo.

BIRTHDAYS: Lillian Rossi announced the June Birthdays: Gaylene Lowinger, Carol Licata, Guy Floridia, and Alex Perez. We sang Happy Birthday in Italian to all the “birthday people.”

The formal meeting was adjourned by President David Prisco at 7:30 p.m.
