Operation Homefront, the national nonprofit that provides emergency assistance to military families and Wounded Warriors, today launched a partnership with Chase that will put at least 100 Wounded Warrior, military, and veteran families permanently into homes this year. The bank is providing the homes and other support to enable Operation Homefront to admin‐ister the “Homes on the Homefront” program. Operation Homefront will provide ongoing transitional services to the families until such time the properties are actually deeded to the recipients. Operation Homefront and Chase will match homes in the bank’s inventory with deserving families served by the nonprofit. Some of the requirements that applicants must meet include: 1) be active duty, Guard or Reserve, or have been honorably discharged, 2) not currently own a home, 3) be financially capable of sustaining the home throughout an initial transition period and beyond. The program’s first priority will be to place families who currently live at an Operation Homefront Village, which provides transitional housing for Wounded Warrior families. Other Wounded Warriors, surviving single spouses of those killed‐in‐action, and post‐9/11 disabled veterans will also receive priority consideration under the program. Any veteran of any era, regardless of wounded or disability status, will be eligible to apply. Military families can apply for the Homes on the Homefront program by logging on to www.OperationHomefront.net/HomesOnTheHomefront. The Army is conducting a survey on the comfort, fit, and quality of the current IPFU to determine whether it meets the needs of the Soldier. The survey allows the Soldier to list any minor modifications or suggest a complete redesign of the IPFU. The survey is available to all Soldiers and can be conducted by visiting AKO or one of the following addresses: with CAC access, use https://ipfusurvey.natick.army.mil. The SMA would like to stress that the Army‐wide IPFU survey is the Soldier's opportunity to provide feedback by which will be used to assist with the update to the Army's current PT uniform. Highly recommend maximum participation for this survey as it is the Soldier's opportunity to provide feedback.

The, POWER OF A POST A post or Facebook news feed profile update can be a very powerful thing. With the ability to motivate, intrigue, inform, entertain and communicate, these Facebook posts can be very important to our everyday lives. Recently JSSWA featured a photo of an infant holding a sign for a returning deployed parent stating, “I’ve been waiting my whole life to meet you!” This Photo of the Day Facebook post received over 900 likes, over 350 shares and numerous powerful comments like, “My mother went through birth without her husband at her side...and he did not and could not return to her until I was over 2 years old... let’s all THANK A VET and THANK THEIR SPOUSES...they don't get near enough credit for what they go through while their soldier is gone. “ Another comment that stood out came from a new mother, “I just went thru this...my daughter just met her dad last week and she is nine months old...this sign brought tears to my eyes...’’ These and other comments proved to us the power of a post in reaching the military community we serve. The JSS is glad to have your support and will strive to use that power to better serve our military community and continue to provide so many great programs for them. The JSS is proud to provide military supporting services like Family Programs, Youth Programs, Suicide and Sexual Assault Prevention, Yellow Ribbon Deployment Cycle Support, Employment Transition Services and Wounded Warrior Programs. Job fairs, military deals, resume building classes, family retreats, youth retreats, awards ceremonies, inspiring photos, community happenings and videos are just some of the powerful posts that Joint Services Support Washington’s Facebook page shares with the world on a consistent and constant basis. This ability to share, with other military and non‐military members, new and old ways to better assist our servicemen and women through social media is a pleasure. Being able to improve and positively affect the JSS’s audience through a post is a power we don’t take likely.

TriWest Healthcare Alliance Did you know more than half of American adults are overweight or obese? The actual number is 66 percent, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. Imagine a map of the U.S. showing the Mississippi River. Then imagine everyone west of the river is obese. The problem is just that big. According to the American Dietetic Association, if you’re overweight or obese, you’re at a higher risk of:
Heart disease Stroke Diabetes Certain cancers Liver and gallbladder disease Infertility
You’ve probably heard that with proper diet and exercise, you can lose weight and keep it off. But you may not know about this other little secret to weight loss. Keep a Journal “Keeping a food and exercise log can help you achieve the weight loss results you want,” said Meghean Cook, a health coach at TriWest Healthcare Alliance. “A log is a way to hold yourself accountable for the foods you put into your mouth and the activity you choose to do.” Cook said keeping a food journal may reveal habits you didn’t even know existed. Do you grab a snack every time you pass the candy jar at work? Do you nibble all day, and then eat a huge meal at night? Do you drink too many high‐calorie beverages in the morning? Keeping a journal just doesn’t work for food, but for exercise too. “Recording your exercise can be very motivating to see your progress. You may notice you can walk farther, longer or faster,” Cook said. “Or you may notice you are stronger in your daily tasks because of the strength training you have been doing.” The key is this: keep it honest.
