The Round the Island Race and the Barcolana Race from Trieste in Italy are the two largest races in the world and this year the two events join together with the introduction of the International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians Disabled Trophy, which will be presented to the overall boat in the ISCRS Class with both a disabled sailor and a Rotarian on board. There will also be a further trophy for eligible crews that take part in both events. The Island Sailing Club, with its eet of 9 Sonars, has always had a close association with disabled sailing and we are proud to have been invited to take part in this international initiative.
We will continue to oer extracted results for production boats that have sucient entries to warrant this and would like to encourage more Yacht Clubs and Sailing Clubs to enter teams for the IRC and ISCRS Team Trophies.
If you are a newcomer to the Race you will nd a lot of helpful advice on our website in the Competitor area and the Club Oce Sta on telephone number 01983 296621 will be glad to help you with any queries.
During the run up to the Race we will be sending out press releases and emails which will have important news for entrants and we urge you to make sure these don’t end up in your spam folders. We are constantly amazed by the number of people who say they did not know of some new initiative or helpful information simply because they had not read their mail.
I wish you all a great sailing season and look forward to welcoming friends, old and new, to Cowes and particularly the Island Sailing Club over the Race weekend.
I am delighted to invite you to enter the 2016 J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race which this year will take place on Saturday 2nd July.
A few weeks ago I was honoured to represent the Island Sailing Club at the Maritime Media Awards ceremony in London where the Round the Island Race website received a Certicate
of Merit for The First Sea Lord’s Digital Media Award for the best use of digital media. I am sure you will join with me in congratulating those responsible for this great achievement.
Sadly, this year’s race will be the last one with J.P. Morgan Asset Management as our title sponsor. They joined us 12 years ago and during their time with us have become an intrinsic part of the ‘Round the Island Race family’. It has been a dynamic and enjoyable partnership and we are very grateful for their support and all they have done to enhance the Race.
In addition to their main sponsorship they helped us to introduce new technology and raise the Race prole in the press. Race Tracking, and more recently Live TV, are just two new initiatives. Since J.P. Morgan Asset Management joined us we have together raised over £500,000 for charity, and there have been high prole documentaries covering the Race on BBC Countryle and Channel 4. They also helped us celebrate our 80th anniversary of the Race in 2011 with an historic art and photographic exhibition.
This year we have two new classes. The growing class of J/70s, who have been the main supporters of the Sportsboat Class, have now been given their own class.
We are also delighted to welcome the Fast 40+ Class. This is an exciting new race circuit featuring IRC boats and they are delighted to have been given the opportunity to showcase their Class.
An invitation to enter the J.P. Morgan Asset ManagementRound the Island Race...
