Tigger was a stray cat who had been dropped off at a mobile home

park and was being fed by one of Florence's longtime friends. He

appeared to have been someone's pet in the past. He was vetted,

neutered and had his ear clipped by the woman who was feeding him,

but she was unable to bring him indoors. One day, she witnessed a

drunk neighbor hit Tigger with her car, and saw him run under her

mobile home. She was unable to retrieve him, and could find no

animal welfare group to help her. Some of her neighbors threatened to

shoot the cat.

Kaley is a shepherd dog who came to us a few weeks ago. A relative of a

Journey's End staff person had known her for a long time. For the first 10

years of her life, Kaley lived a wonderful life like every beloved dog, in a

family home, sheltered and well cared for. Two years ago, for unknown

reasons, she was given to another family, and after that, received no

medical care and was left outside tied to a tree. Occasionally, the staff

person's relative would go check on her, still tied to the tree, and one day

noticed the people were in the process of moving out. Neighbors said they

had been feeding Kaley cat food for two weeks.

Our staff member was called and went to pick Kaley up, and kept her

for the weekend, bathing her and eliminating her fleas before

bringing her to Journey's End. She is very, very sweet, and will never

again be left outside or tied to anything, and will be fed healthy dog

food.

Sadly, upon full medical examination, we were informed that Kaley only has

a short time to live, as she has advanced abdominal cancer. This breaks our

hearts, but Kaley will leave this Earth dearly loved, petted, hugged, kissed,

and touched as much as possible. Kaley's story represents what Journey's

End does--rescuing the least loved and most forgotten, and ensuring they

receive the love and care they so deserve.

Thank you to all you Santas out there who brought so many treats, blankets and toys to our spoiled residents. We

had to explain to them that this will not be a monthly occurrence. Thank you again, too, for our beautiful new roof,

and for the large couch with extra ottoman, which is where the small wheelchair dogs love to be when in not in their

wheels. Florence is thankful for her own sake because that's where she sleeps with cats and dogs cuddled all around

her every night.

We are looking forward to completing our next big project, having the front half of the cat house remodeled. We are

awaiting estimates for the work, and in any event, we know it will be costly. Your continued support is crucial to all

that we do at Journey’s End, and again, you have our most heartfelt thanks.

Memorial Garden

The Memorial Garden at Journey’s End Animal Sanctuary is

a beautiful, peaceful place for quiet contemplation of the

animals who have meant so much to us, and we invite anyone

who visits to spend time there. As a further way to honor or

remember loved ones, both people and animals, we are now

offering an engraved stone that will be placed in the walkway

to the Memorial Garden for a minimum $50 donation. Each

stone is 4” x 8” and will have space for a short inscription. Your stone will be added along the walkway to Journey's End Animal Sanctuary's Memorial Garden.

After three days of trying, she finally caught Tigger and he was

brought to Journey's End. He was taken immediately to be seen by

an orthopedic surgeon. He has two splintered fractures in one leg,

and is now wearing a cast. His stitches have been removed, but he

will have a long recovery period. He is due back for a follow-up X-

ray in two weeks. Considering all he has been through, he is doing

very well, and we are so thankful to the kind woman who was able to

bring him to Journey's End, where he will be safe and loved for the

rest of his life.

- Sweet old Pops had to have his spleen removed, but luckily his

tumors were benign. He had a close call after having complications

from the surgery, but he’s doing much better and is back to loudly

re-arranging the furniture in his room.

- We think we finally solved the problem of our pig Attitude

breaking the faucet so his pen would flood. (He loves the mud.)

Now he has a galvanized steel water tub, set into concrete.

- Our blind rooster Curley had a foot infection, so we have to soak

his feet in a warm medicated bath. He loves it, and he coos and

cackles when we put his feet in the water.

Gidget comes in from the cold

Our new resident Gidget was found under a shed during a cold

spell. She had dug herself into a hole and was too scared to come

out, so rescuers had to carefully dig her out with shovels. We

kept a watch on her as she was introduced to the little dogs in the

PeeWee room, since some of them can be bullies towards

newcomers. But within an hour, she was alpha dog and took

over the big pillow, while the other dogs suddenly decided they

preferred the floor. Gidget is sweet with people, but gets jealous

if you pay attention to the other dogs.
