JUST WHO WAS GENE RODDENBERRYGene Roddenberry is a very famous T.V. show creator. Gene loved sci-fi. That is why he created Star Trek. Star Trek is a famous T.V. series about a crew traveling space. The original Star Trek had many famous actors such as, William Shatner as Captain Kirk,

Lenard Nemoy as Mr.Spock, DeForest Kelly as Doctor McCoy A.K.A Bones, and James Doohan as Mr.Scott. Today I will show you Gene’s childhood, Mid-life, and adult life. Well

GENE’S EARLY LIFE

• Gene was born in El Paso Texas in August 29, 1921.

• Almost died due to their house catching on fire but,saved my a milkman that happened to walk by and tell then that their house was on fire.

• Gene also faced many seizures.

• He spent lots of time alone.

• Schools: Middle school: Berendo Middle School, High school: Franklin High, College: Los Angeles City College.

• He graduated with a degree in Associate of Art in police science.

GENE’S LIFE IN THE AIR FORCE

• Joined air force at 20.

• Training began in Goodfellow Field

• He was promoted to second lieutenant on September 1942.

• Flew combat missions with The Bomber Barons .

• “Yankee Doodle” crashed during the take off.

• Received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air medal.

• He was discharged at the rank of captain on July 1945.

• Gene flew a total of 89 combat missions during WW2.

GENE AS A POLICE MAN• Became a police man on February 1, 1949

• Gene attained the rank of police officer 3.

• Mr. Spock based on William H. Parker.

• Gene resigned his commission.

• Gene wrote this on his resignation paper,

• I find myself unable to support my family at present on anticipated police salary levels in a manner we consider necessary. Having spent slightly more than seven years on this job, during all of which fair treatment and enjoyable working conditions were received, this decision is made with considerable and genuine regret.

GENE AND STAR TREK• Star Trek was invented in 1964.

• The pilot didn’t go very well.

• The show had a second pilot.

• The show began to have ratings.

• The show premiered of three seasons.

• On the final season, Gene started to have a lower level of involvement with the show.

• In 1970 Paramount finally gave Gene all of the rights but….

• Gene decided to put the show in syndication.

• Paramount wanted Gene to create a new Star Trek series.

• The idea of Phase 2 failed and was eventually turned into Star Trek the Motion Picture.

GENE AND STAR TREK CONTINUED• Star Trek 1: The Motion Picture, Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan, Star Trek 3: Search for

Spock, Star Trek 4: Voyage Home, Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier, and Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country.

• Gene got to watch an early version of Star Trek 6 just days before he passed away.

OTHER STAR TREKIn Star Trek there were many other series. For example there was The Next

Generation, Voyager, Enterprise, Deep Space 9, and The Animated Series. There were also many movies such as Star Trek : Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek Nemesis, Star Trek (2009), and the Star Trek sequel to Star Trek (2009), Star Trek: Into Darkness that will come out in theaters this May.

WHAT GENE DID• In Gene’s life, he did many great things.

• Gene inspired many people and things, such as……

• Astronauts, writers, readers, builders, explorers, designers, devices, and etc.….

• He helped the segregation between blacks and Asians.

• He helped name the NASA space shuttle Enterprise.

• Helped me find an explorer project in grade 5.
