GAME 65 vs. Edmonton Oil Kings Friday, March 8, 2019

HITMEN HEADLINES: Two teams riding six-game winning streaks meet tonight at Scotiabank Saddledome as the Calgary Hitmen host the Edmonton Oil Kings. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. for the One Ticket, One Tree game. For each game day and group ticket sold to this Central Division showdown, the Hitmen will plant a tree for reforestation projects in the province. All funds raised will be gifted to Tree Canada to plant seedlings in Fort McMurray. This pilot project, first announced at the Calgary Zoo on National Tree Day Sept. 26, 2018 also saw Hitmen players in the community this season doing their part to reduce their ecological footprint by raising awareness to local environmental issues. Highlights included Hitmen Go Green videos on upcycling, city cleanup, water conservation and alternative energy along with recycling and composting. PLAYOFF BOUND: Calgary is heading to the 2019 Western Hockey League Playoffs. EDMONTON OIL KINGS - GAME NOTES Friday, March 8, 2019

Edmonton Oil Kings (36-18-4-4) vs. Calgary Hitmen (32-22-5-1)

Edmonton Road Record (14-9-4-4) Calgary Home Record (20-9-3-0)

Season Game: 64 Road Game: 32

• The Edmonton Oil Kings and Calgary Hitmen meet for the first time since January 19 when the Oil Kings defeated the Hitmen, 3-2, in a game nationally televised on Rogers Sportsnet from Rogers Place. Including tonight, the teams will meet three more times before the end of the regular season, capping off the 68-game campaign with a home-and-home in Edmonton on March 16 and back in Calgary on March 17. • The Oil Kings enter tonight’s game having registered at least a point in 17 of their last 21 games played (16-4-0-1). • Edmonton enters tonight’s action leading the Central Division with 82 points, although with a win on Wednesday night the Lethbridge Hurricanes also boast 82 points but with a lower win percentage. As of today, the Oil Kings could clinch the division with four wins, giving them 90 points and 41 wins. The most the Hurricanes could finish with is 90 points and 40 wins. • Oil Kings captain Trey Fix-Wolansky (94) sits third in the WHL’s point scoring race, trailing Joachim Blichfeld (POR, 107) and Tristin Langan (MJ, 102). He slipped into a tie for second in the League in assists with Nick Henry (LET) (63), with Justin Almeida (MJ) leading the League with 68 points. • Fix-Wolansky has earned a pair of 11-game point streaks this season, the first from Oct. 19 – Nov. 16 (7G, 21A = 28 points) and the second from Nov. 21 – Dec. 28 (11G, 13A = 24 points). He has registered 27 multi-point games this season; 14 games of those games being with three-or-more points. • Fix-Wolansky (63) tied the record for most assists in a single regular season in Oil Kings modern franchise history [Dylan Wruck (2012-13)] in Saturday’s 7-1 win vs. the Brandon Wheat Kings. The win also clinched a berth in the 2019 WHL Playoffs for the Oil Kings. • Oil Kings defenceman Conner McDonald sits tied for second in goals scored by a defenceman in the WHL (Lassi Thomson, KEL) with 17, trailing only Bowen Byram of the Vancouver Giants (25). • McDonald currently sits tied for the most goals scored by a defenceman in a single regular season in Oil Kings modern franchise history with Cody Corbett (2013-14, 17 goals). He is four goals away from tying the all-time record for regular season goals scored by a defenceman in Oil Kings modern franchise history (Aaron Irving, 38). He enters tonight’s action with 34. • Edmonton lost its first game in regulation this season when leading after 40 minutes of play the last time vs. the Brandon Wheat Kings on February 13 (21-1-2-2). The Oil Kings have been outshot 18 times, managing to earn points in more than half of those games (9-7-1-1). • The Oil Kings have scored the first goal of the game in 34 of their 63 games played this season. After starting the season 12-0-0-0 when scoring the game’s first goal, they are now 24-7-1-2 when opening the scoring. • A group of six Oil Kings prospects represented the team, and their provinces, at the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Forwards Michael Abgrall, Carson Latimer and Kobe Verbicky dressed for British Columbia, who was eliminated from gold medal contention following a loss to Quebec in the quarter-final. Forward Dylan Guenther and defencemen Keagan Slaney and Matt Smith represented Alberta and claimed bronze over Saskatchewan, emphatically, on Friday night with a 12-0 victory. • Five current Oil Kings players were featured in NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm Rankings. Defenceman Matthew Robertson was listed 18th overall among all North American skaters, while forward Josh Williams (67) was also listed in the top 100. Forward Vladimir Alistrov was listed at 151, while David Kope was listed shortly thereafter at 159. Defenceman Jacson Alexander was also mentioned, but listed as LV (limited viewing due to injury). The Oil Kings trailed only the Kelowna Rockets (six) as the team with the most players listed among WHL Clubs. • Oil Kings Belarusian imports Andrei Pavlenko and Vladimir Alistrov earned silver at the 2019 IIHF U20 World Championships, Division I – Group A in Germany last month. They skated to a 3-2 record in the tournament, which was won by host Germany. Alistrov tallied a pair of goals and six points for Belarus.
