Good Afternoon Emily. Well Done!! I am just beginning to read through your Self Study and it demonstrates the hard work that you and your staff have put into the Study to reflect your school. I hope your Board is suitably impressed.
The Agenda is fine.
A list of suggestions for places to eat would be great. It helps in the team bonding process if I give the group a chance to choose where to eat.
Could you send me Word doc copy of the report?
Thanks. Joe

Dear Mr. Mahood,
Thank you for your email. Attached you will find a PDF of Paly's Self Study. Principal Diorio and I will be presenting our Self Study to the Board of Education next Tuesday, February 10, 2015. After that meeting, I will rush printing of the self Study and send you a hard copy through the mail. If you have an updated list of all VC members, please forward that information and I will be happy to send them hard copies as well.
I have also attached another draft of the VC agenda. Principal Diorio felt it was important to add a meeting with our ASB class and classified staff, so those two meeting have been added. Please provide your feedback to the agenda. Is there anything else I can add or change?
Finally, would you like me to make reservations for your dinners? Would you prefer a list of suggestions? Please do not hesitate to email if I can be of assistance.
We are looking forward to your visit!

Dear WASC Visiting Committee,
You should receive hard copies of the Palo Alto High School WASC Self-study today. In most cases, I sent the Self-study to your schools. If it doesn't arrive please let me know so I can track your package.
Also, I am working on planning some meals and snacks for you while you are here. Please email me if you have any food allergies or specific dietary needs (ex: vegan, non-dairy, gluten free, nuts etc.).

Hi Joseph,
We're excited for your upcoming visit to Paly! I wanted to let you know of one small glitch and hope you can advise.
Both Paly and Gunn HS presented our WASC self-study reports to our Board of Education on February 10th in a special session. Our initial impression was that the report was well received, and there were no areas of concern. Following normal protocol, the report was then put on the Board's consent calendar for Tuesday night (February 24th) for formal approval. At that meeting, one of the Board members requested the BOE move the item off of consent and back on the agenda for discussion. There was some debate between the BOE and our Superintendent, and ultimately, it was agreed that both Paly and Gunn's WASC reports would be pulled from consent and itemized on the March 10th agenda for discussion. I'm not sure when they plan to take action on the report.
The BOE member who made this recommendation and initiated this action is new to the BOE. It's my understanding that he wants to open it back up for discussion with greater focus on Gunn's action plan, specifically how the timeline to address social-emotional learning and improve the bell schedule (move to block scheduling, like Paly). While I believe his intentions are good, I'm not sure the BOE understood that our visit was this weekend and by pulling the report, we would be presenting our visiting committee with a document that has not been formally approved by our BOE. Our Superintendent assures me that the BOE is not looking to make any changes to our report, and that I should not worry about this action. That said, I wanted to disclose to you chain of events that have taken place this week. I notified our WASC Leadership team on Wednesday and as you can imagine, my staff are now quite concerned and frustrated by the recent action of the BOE.
Please let me know if I need to do anything else with this information. For now, we are continuing to plan a great visit and are excited to share with the entire visiting team the good work we are doing everyday to improve student learning.
If you'd like to discuss by phone, my cell is . Feel free to call me anytime, otherwise we can touch base on Sunday.
Take care,
Kim

Hi, Jessie! At yesterday's WASC Leadership Team meeting, our team inquired as to how more students could be invited to share comments with the visiting team if they are not in ASB or do not get selected for the Adhoc. With this in mind, we're setting up two "comment boxes" in the library and SAC for students. I'll leave these boxes in the your WASC rooms after you arrive.Thoughts?meg

PEER OBSERVATION WEEK.docx
Hi Laura. I was finally able to find copies of what I wanted to send you. I know it is probably too late for this semester but you may be able to use them for next with what you developed on your own.
The Peer Observation Week sheet is for teacher to post outside of their rooms to give guidance as to what classes are open and what they would like to have their observers see and do.
The Peer observation form is for the observers to use and report back to the teacher they observed.
Hope this helps. Joe

Joe

Good Morning Laura. My PD Coordinator must have dropped the ball. She said she would contact you. We are on Spring Break now and I am away from school
Briefly the Peer Observations are done during teacher prep time. Teachers post through either e-mails our on their door that they are open for observation and what is happening. We use a simple form that let's people know what worked well and what they saw. The current theme is "are student's learning", how do we know - formative assessments. Peer Observation is voluntary-now pressure and no evaluations during that time. Runs usually a week. When I get back to school I will find the stuff and send it to you. Sorry for the disconnect. Best. Joe

Dear Joe,
I’m sure you are very busy, but I’m re-sending this to see if you are still able to connect us with your coordinator for professional development at SMUHSD? I have a planning meeting coming up this Thursday afternoon to start working on the initial steps for developing a peer observation program here at PALY, so any resources you have to offer would be much appreciated.
Thank you kindly,
