Joseph Berning Printing: A Lean Green Printing MachineJoseph Berning Printing is committed in all facets of the industry to impliment the most enviromentally friendly

practices possible. With over 128 years in the printing industry, one could say that Berning Printing is synonymous with sustainability. Making the world “a better place than when you started” has been a successful mission down to now,

five generations of Bernings. In direct alignment with the green initiative, Joseph Berning Printing is truly “doing it’s fair share for cleaner air” and here are just a few of the ways that we do:

• Installed specialized filtration system to improve air quality in print shop and air emissions outside the plant• Reduce make ready sheets by 90% with state of the art printing equipment

-Less ink, less paper, less clean-up, less electricty used• Use of low-energy light bullbs and proper disposal of flourescent bulbs

• Reuse of scrap paper and excess shrink wrap for packing material• Proper disposal of hazardous ink waste and chemistry• Recycling of pre-consumer and post-consumer paper

• Use of soy and vegetable based inks• Recycling of metal press plates• All cardboard material recycled

My great-grandfather, Joseph Berning, founded Jos. Berning Printing Co. in 1883. His sepia photograph, antique letter press and yellowed business card sit in our offices alongside the photographs of my grandfather and father, who served in their turns, as Presidents of Jos. Berning Printing. Each took care to adapt, to expand, to modernize the business–each one equally dedicated to serving the Cincinnati community civically, socially and philanthropically.

Their legacy reminds me every day of the Jos. Berning Printing commitment to exceptional print quality, state-of-the-art technology, and unsurpassed customer service that has been a Berning hallmark for over one hundred and twenty-five years. My name is on the door and I personally ensure the satisfaction of every Jos. Berning Printing customer.

Sincerely,

Mike Berning, Sr.President 1998 - Present

For four generations, we have been meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers. We are proud of Jos. Berning Printing’s reputation in the Cincinnati Tristate for quality, accuracy, and above all, integrity. In transforming a project from the conceptual stage to a flawless printed piece, we emphasize creativity, expediency and flexibility. Our Customer Service Specialists are focused on providing unparalleled levels of project responsiveness. After all, we have a legacy to uphold.

Printer, Cincinnati vice-mayor, entrepreneur, philanthropist: Joseph Berning founded Jos. Berning Printing in 1883 in the rear of a Vine Street grocery. His charisma and sheer determination laid the foundation for a tradition of printing excellence and civic service.

For 40 years Norbert Berning stood at the helm of Jos. Berning Printing, transforming the organization from a small, family-owned business to a thriving commercial enterprise. He personally developed long-term business relationships with his clients, many of whom are still our customers today.

Richard Berning’s tenure saw a heightened commitment to overhauling the physical capabilities of Jos. Berning Printing. A true “hands-on” leader and expert craftsman, he converted the printing operation to an all-Heidelberg shop and oversaw the relocation of the business to its current custom-built print facility. Richard Berning’s infrastructure investments paved the way for the digitalization process that would transform Jos. Berning Printing as it entered its second century of business.

I wish to extend a special thanks to you and your staff for everyone’s great work in preparing Hamilton County’s Citizens Financial Report. My staff and I are very pleased with the publication. Please relay my appreciation to your Prepress associates in particular. They very graciously worked with my staff to produce a final document that was of a manageable size and good clarity for posting on my website.

Dear Mike and friends at Jos Berning Printing, you continue to bless us with goodness! Not only are we profoundly appreciative of the service you provide... but also the way in which you provide it! You are all true examples of what it means to serve with a happy heart. Thank you.

Dear Mike and JBP Staff, I wanted to send a note to thank you and your staff for the quick turnaround on my last printing project. They look great and I appreciate so much how you are making me look good with this new client. A colleague recently told me that the key to doing business well is to “underpromise and overdeliver.” That is exactly what you have done in this case. I have had unfor-tunate experiences with other vendors doing just the opposite. I specifically chose Jos. Berning Printing for this project because of your reliability and attention to quality and detail. Thank you for surpassing my expectations!

-Amelia RiedelOwnerRiedel Creative Group

Dear Mike and everyone at Berning Printing, We just received our first copies if our magazine yesterday and they look wonderful. We get so many favorable comments about our magazine from older alumni and friends and a lot has to do with the quality work that Berning does for us. Just wanted to say thank you and let you know that your efforts are appreciated.

-Tony SchadSaint Xavier High School

Thanks for all your help as I started my new company. Launching a brand new publication is no easy task -- and I have certainly had a lot of details to work through over the past few months. But one detail I didn’t have to worry about was printing. After our many years of working together -- I knew there was no one better than you to handle this important responsibility. Because of your loyality, attention to detail, and go-the-extra-mile philosophy of customer service -- I wouldn’t have considered giving my business to anyone else. You know your profession -- and your reccommendations really hit the mark! The invitations, envelopes, note cards, labels, contracts, and business cards you printed for me have made a great impression, and have helped me establish the image and credibility that are so important to a business newspaper. Please use me as a reference. I would confidently send anyone interested in “doing their printing RIGHT” to you.

-Jerry MaderPublisher - Business News

The samples arrived and they look great! Thanks again for the awesome service. You know we were all excited to see how great the color was, and how wonderful your team’s finishing skills were on this project, the color bar crossovers were flawless. Tim, Heather and I were all excited, and of course, we all agreed that it was so great to get to work with you on this, for the quality we can always rely on. Thank you again!
