Jordan Murphy [email protected] 6478891448 Making and designing allow me to have a dialogue with the nature of objects and our relationships with them. Design is pervasive in our lives and I believe it is an appropriate language to work within to inspire contemplation about the things we want, the things we own and how those things are made. I am interested in solving problems and raising questions with my work rather than exclusively the former. I usually work in ways that do not require a vast amount of technical knowhow and skill, but that necessitate care, effort and time. I am interested in technical mastery only to the point that a process or technique will deliver a required result and still be in harmony with a particular piece. I like my work to be simple and direct in form and manufacture, but never easy. There is often a conceptual component to my pieces that might involve material, process, skill or the nature of design and consumption. It is essential that my work communicate something more than beauty or function. My goal is to make and design engaging objects that are accessible, useful, well made and that, most importantly, encourage reflection.
