Attendance Policy It is essential that you monitor your student’s attendance. Please refer to the district calendar before planning your vacations and appointments. School begins at 8:30 and ends at 3:25 daily. When your child is absent… Please be sure you call to verify your child’s absence. Parents can call the attendance line (350-4271) 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Anytime a student goes to an appointment (doctor, dental, orthodontist or court) please request a verification slip to bring into the office to excuse the absence. All other verified absences will be counted as documented in the Middle School Attend-ance policy and the Middle School Credit policy. Be aware that over 6 absences per semester will result in loss of credit per the Middle School Credit policy.
Special Deliveries/Outside Food/Drinks Per the Parent/Student handbook, we cannot accept any deliveries for students at school. This includes flowers, balloons, food and/or drink. Students arriving with outside drinks (i.e., coffee, shakes) may not take them to class or store them in their locker. We are unable to hold food and/or drinks for students to pick up later in the day. Additionally we cannot accept food deliveries (i.e., pizza, sandwiches, etc.) to the school. We appreciate your assistance in these matters.
Dress Code Please be aware of dress code. Shorts should be Bermuda type and no shorter than mid-thigh (3 inches above the knee). Short skirts and dresses are problematic with the movement needed at school and should be avoided. Holes, tears or frays of any kind above mid-thigh in pants/shorts/skirts are not permitted. Shirts should not be sheer. They should cover shoulders, undergarments and cleavage to provide a level of modesty that is appropriate at school. **We will have students change clothes if they come to school wearing items that aren't school appropriate. Clothing is available in the nurse’s office. Delivery of alternate clothing is not required, but we will offer that option.
Electronic Devices If cell phones are brought to school, they should be turned OFF once students enter the building. If a student needs to contact parents, the office phone is available. Additionally, if a student is sick, they must go the school nurse and a phone call would be made from her office. Other electronic devices are brought at the students own risk. It is recommended that these items remain at home. At times technology may be appropriately used in the classroom. The LCMS Digital Citizenship policy addresses these instances.
LCMS DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
Students should use all forms of technology in a respectful and responsible manner and at the teacher’s discretion.
Respectful and Responsible means: Never video or photograph without consent of all parties involved and content obtained at school should not be posted to social media without consent.
Use of any device with photo/video capabilities is banned in areas of assumed privacy (locker room/restroom). Never use another student’s device without consent.
Devices may only be used with teacher permission in class.
Individuals should immediately report any form of cyberbullying or inappropriate
technology use. Headphones should not be in use during class without teacher permission. Technology use should reflect the LCMS Character Traits: Respect, Responsibility,
Resilience and Relationships.
Personal electronic devices including cell phones/headphones will not be allowed in the Safe School classroom or time out rooms.
Technology privileges may be revoked at any time
Donation Drop Off
Some of you may have noticed the new addition to our parking lot on the east side. It is a Gemtext Recycling Station for unwanted clothes, shoes, purses, household linens, books, toys, small household appliances. Gemtext tells us anything that fits through that door is acceptable and in any condition. They will accept torn, stained, stretched out, even burned clothing. These textiles can be reused for their fiber content. Did you know that old jeans can be re-purposed into the blown-in insulation for our homes? The single sock that every household seems to have a basket full of can be re-purposed into the stuffing in the seats of our cars, decorative pillow stuffing and stuffed animal stuffing? Did you know that the average American throws out 68 pounds of clothing a year! Wow, this can really bring in some money for Lewis and Clark. So if you are cleaning out closets and drawers, please bag up those unwanted items and put in our new recycling station. Just put things in the blue "pull" door. Gemtext gives us a check for every pound donated. For more information please go to the Gemtext Recycling website at: www.gemtextrecycling.com.
