Solar In the Sunshine State The words “poten4al” and “untapped” are commonly used when describing the solar market in Florida. Ranked 3 rd in solar poten4al by the Na4onal Renewable Energy Laboratory, Florida con4nues to lag behind the rest of the country in installa4ons, falling to 14 th place na4onally for installed solar capacity. Florida is the 3 rd most populous state in the country with over 9 million energy customers, yet less than 1% of the state’s energy is currently coming from solar. The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) is commiOed to changing this sta4s4c and works to ensure that all Floridians have access to clean, sustainable, low-cost energy. Florida MaOers By most measures, Florida is one of the most important poli4cal baOleground states, and the policy baOle over solar is no different. Coupled with the recent Clean Power Plan rollout and the ongoing federal ITC extension fight, the Sunshine State plays an absolutely cri4cal part in the na4onal solar war. Florida has a unique opportunity to make a na4onal statement on behalf of the solar industry: “We will fight, and we will win.” As solar faces aOacks across the na4on, all eyes are on the Sunshine State.
