Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. We remember that God is a community of love, who made us to be in commu-nities of love. Being made in the image and likeness of God means that we are hardwired for relationship, and today’s read-ings remind us of the attributes that make us like God, and how our community life is a reflection of God in the world.
Our first reading takes place when Moses went up to the moun-tain to speak to God. God physically descends to Moses and stands there with him. God tells Moses that God is slow to an-ger, rich in kindness and merciful. Moses acknowledges that the community he’s traveling with—the Hebrew people who es-caped from slavery in Egypt—don’t always get it right. They are a stiff-necked people. Distracted from who they’re supposed to be. Sometimes they are not really sure who they are meant to be. They’re kind of a rag-tag fugitive fleet. But Moses asks God to travel with them anyway. And God does. He leads them through the desert and keeps them safe in all of their tom fool-ery.
Much like the readings for the Solemnity of the Holy Family, our second reading offers us attributes of a good community.
We’re given a simple roadmap (God tries to make it easy for us); be agreeable, encourage one another, be affectionate, work on becoming better people all the time. These are simple things that make any community better—families, workplaces, church-es…
Our Gospel reminds us of why Jesus was sent to earth—because God loves us. The Father walked with Adam and Eve in the Gar-den, with the Jewish people through the desert, and became a human being for us so that we could know God better and be assured of his unconditional love for us. Our identity—who we are supposed to be as Christians and as a community—is all wrapped up in that assurance.
How does my understanding that I am made in the image of the Trinity inform the decisions I make in my relationships? How can I apply God’s attributes of being slow to anger and rich in kind-ness more fully in my daily life? Is there a particular person or group who needs to experience this from me especially? Does knowing that God loves our communities through our imperfec-tions and failings help me to love them, too?
TODAY’S GOSPEL
The Solemnity of The Most Holy Trinity June 7, 2020
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned,
but whoever does not believe has already been condemned,
because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
John 3:16-18

From the Pastor’s Desk……
God Bless our Graduates.
In this uncertain time, I offer you this prayer as your
own, and assure you, of my own prayers as you step
into the future. God bless.
Dear Lord, As I look toward the future
Bright hope conducts this prayer, For I know the plans You have for me
Were wrought with divine care.
Holy Spirit, lead me. Let me run at Your command,
Yet be still and know that You are God When trouble is close at hand.
Your Word will be a lamp for me,
A guide to light my way, A solid place to set my feet,
A compass when I stray.
May I live my life to praise You, Not for fortune, nor for fame, May everything I say and do Bring glory to Your name.
May my eyes stay fixed upon You As I seek the way that's pure,
Tasting Your love and goodness Sleeping and rising secure.
Planted by Your living streams I'll delight in all Your ways,
Hidden by Your sheltering wings With new mercies for each day.
Even in a dangerous land When storms threaten to destroy,
At the cross I'll stand upon the Rock My Strength, my Hope, my Joy.
Dear Lord, show me Your favor, At all times keep me blessed,
May Your face ever shine upon me, With peace and perfect rest. - Mary Fairchild

What does having a dispensation from Mass mean during the pandemic?
WORSHIP
Below is what Bishop O’Connell says about the dispensation:
As Bishop of the Diocese of Trenton, I have been entrusted by the Church with the responsibil-ity to exercise care for the spiritual needs of the faithful. I cannot do that effectively if I ignore their physical health and well-being or put that health and the common good at risk. For that reason, heeding the advice of public health officials and other scientific data, I directed the cler-gy and faithful of the Diocese to follow the courses of action we have pursued for the past sev-eral months. The Catholic faithful, however, need the Eucharist for their spiritual health and well-being. It is an essential part of Catholic life and we cannot continue to do without the Eucharist and other sacraments indefinitely. The COVID 19 pandemic introduced temporary yet necessary sacrific-es into our lives as Catholics. The faithful have carried the accompanying spiritual burdens he-roically. Our clergy and I have shared those burdens, too, deprived as we have been of the op-
portunity to exercise many of the pastoral and liturgical ministries for which we have been ordained as bishop, priests and deacons. It has been our common goal during this pandemic to minister as best we could in the hope that the grad-ual restoration of full Catholic life would occur as soon as possible. A dispensation from Sunday/Holy Day obligation has been granted so that the faithful could “stay home” in good con-science. Masses and pastoral messages have-been live-streamed by our priests to keep our Catholic faith consistent and strong. Churches have been re-opened for private prayer. Outdoor, “in car” Masses have been provided wherever safe-ly and worthily possible, giving the faithful who were/are able the opportunity to be nourished again by Christ’s Body and Blood in the Eucharist. Balancing the physical, public health precautions deemed necessary with the spiritual good of the faithful, I have de-cided to resume limited opportunities for the faithful to return to their parish churches, while maintaining the neces-sary, required public health precautions present in the CDC Guidelines, as the Diocese gradually and safely moves to-ward the full restoration of Catholic spiritual and sacramental life. The Post-Pandemic Parish Task Force of Pastors (P4) that I established on May 3, 2020, under the leadership of Monsignor Thomas Gervasio, vicar general, has devel-oped the following “Directives” that I am mandating to be observed for participation at “in Church” public Masses and sacramental administrations throughout the Diocese of Trenton. I have maintained contact with the Governor and his chief counsel regarding these directives. The dispensation from Sunday/Holy Day Mass obligation remains in effect until Monday, September 7 (unless other-wise announced). The fulfillment of the Easter Duty may be accomplished before the First Sunday of Advent, Novem-ber 29, 2020. The teachings of the Church regarding ‘Easter Duty’, as reflected in both the Catechism and the Code of Canon Law, indicate that there is an obligation to receive these Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist --- preceded by sacra-mental confession, if conscious of grave sin ---at least once a year, usually during the Easter season, unless there is a “just reason” that requires its fulfillment at another time of the year. In the Diocese of Trenton, it has been impossible to fulfill these obligations until the sacraments are readily available again. In short, the presence of the COVID-19 situ-ation is a “just reason” to delay the fulfillment of this duty and thus the obligation is moved to a time in the future when these sacraments are available again.
Parish churches may begin the celebration of limited “in church” public weekend Masses --- with no more than 1/3 occupancy --- on June 13-14, the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, observing all requirements listed be-low. Weekday “in church” public Masses --- with no more than 25 persons attending --- may begin on Monday, June 8, 2020, observing the same requirements. Pastors will determine the most fair and effective ways to ensure proper observance of those numbers.
Those who are hesitant or fearful because of COVID 19 concerns as well as those with a COVID 19 diagnosis or symptoms, those who may be asymptomatic carriers, those not feeling well, those with underlying health conditions or those in a high risk category should stay home and avoid any public gathering.
