SASTA Oliphant Science Awards The Oliphant Presentation Ceremony was held in the Bonython Hall on Friday 17 September. This state wide competition had over 2000 entries. Lucy Cameron (Science Teacher) had entered all of the Year 4-7 students into the competition. Congratulations to all students for working so hard on your entries. Sarah Menagh, Jordyn McKellar and Michaela Goodman achieved a Highly Commended award and Dion Curnow, Hieu Tran and Haryan Anatalio won the second prize for their Earthquake footage in the 6/7 Multimedia section. Early Years Preschool transition, again all preschool children had a great time transitioning into school for a whole term. We look forward to all of our students starting full time school next term. We have noticed an increase of students moving onto Lexile reading levels, this is an excellent achievement. Mrs Riley's, Jolly Phonics learning group have improved considerably with the letter/sound knowledge. Students have thoroughly enjoyed "Trust the Count" a mathematical process of learning about number concepts. Theme Room learning this term has been about Seasons. Students have focussed on Time, Seasons and Weather. Literacy groups again have highly engaged students, and have focussed on Comprehension, Jolly Phonics and Oral Language Development. To finish the term off we had a fabulous Pyjama Party, everyone had a fantastic time! Primary Years Donna and Mrs T’s class learning centered around Endangered Species and involved a ‘Zoo Snooze’ as well as fund raising for the Sumatran Tiger with a Tiger Café this week. Ms Boyd’s class looking at endangered animals using their laptops to research, as well as an excursion to the zoo. Maths groups in the Primary Years looking at measurement. Multi-Lit reading program. Middle Years The year 6/7 classes looking at Dreaming stories of the Kuarna people in Aboriginal Perspectives finishing with an excursion to Morialta. Inquiry based learning activities in the year 6/7 classes. Choir Last Thursday night, our school choir participated in the Northern Choir Music Festival. I would like to show my appreciation first and foremost to the students for their dedication not only with their impressive performance on the night but also to their hard work throughout the year. I would also like to thank Pam Warner and the Staff of John Hartley, Parents/Caregivers and the community for their support and attendance at this fantastic night. NAPLAN Literacy and Numeracy Test results for Years 3, 5 and 7 will be coming home today. Please make a time with the front office if you would like more information about your child’s results. Uniform The uniform timetable for uniform fittings is included together with the range of uniform options on the reverse of the newsletter. Thank you for you support.
