John Clinkenbeard is a documented soldier by the D. A. R.: born July 9, 1755 in Pennsylvania; died April 1837

Greene County Deeds, Deeds Book 1, page 166

Indenture 8 May 1792 Andrew Evans of Greene Co, NC, now called Terr of US south of Ohio river, and John

Clinkinbeard of same place, 74 pounds paid, tr in said Territory beginning at upper end of island that Col. Wm

Christian marched through in the night when he went to the Cherokee Nation in the year 1776, tr being 37 acres

as described. Witness, H. Ramsey; Joseph Brown.

About 1806/7 John received a TN Land Grant No. 1650 for 307 acres on the south bank of the French Broad

River, recorded in Grant Book 2, No. 566.. John and wife, Mary, later moved to Jefferson County, where in

December 1813 John became a member of the Dumplin Baptist Church. Some believe John's wife Mary died

there in or about 1816. Others believe Mary did not died until 1829, when they lived in Kentucky.
