About the HynesThe Hynes became Boston’s first major exposition venue when it opened in 1965. It was appropriately named after Boston Mayor John B. Hynes, who held office during the building of the “New Boston”, which transformed Boston into a vibrant, forward-looking metropolis that continued to expand even after he left office. The Hynes Convention Center is part of a complex where you can meet, sleep and play under one roof! With three great hotel properties and two upscale shopping destinations con-nected to the Hynes, this five blocks long and two blocks wide complex is like being in a city within a city. And it’s all set in the heart of Boston’s historic Back Bay neighborhood!

Within the complex, it doesn’t matter what’s happening outside because two sky bridges connect you to all of its amenities! You will stay dry, warm, or cool (depending upon our New England weather!) without taking a step outdoors. And many of our Hynes

meeting rooms offer dramatic views of Boston’s Back Bay.

The remarkable amenities at the Hynes are matched by extraordinary functionality. Visitors have everything they need at their fingertips. It’s no surprise that the Hynes Convention Center has earned “Gold Stan-dard” certification from the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC), the highest certification a convention center can receive.

Your Mobile WorkplaceBusiness doesn’t stop when you’re not in the office. The Hynes is on the cutting-edge of technology, delivering the most advanced services of any convention facility in the world.

The BCEC and Hynes annually recycle over 1,000 combined tons of material including card-board, plastic, paper, glass and food waste.

526,000 lbs. In 2015 we sent

of food waste to local farms to be composted into fertilizer.

Our power consumption is minimized through sensor- controlled, high-efficiency lighting, automatically cutting energy use in non-occupied spaces.

You can help too – use our spring water coolers for a quick thirst-quencher or to refill your own reusable bottle.

Event planners and exhibitors are encouraged to recycle through our Conventions C.A.R.E program, in which unused, clean, non-perishable items are collected at the end of an event and donated to local community organizations.

The city’s transit system is the oldest, and fourth largest, in the Nation. You can journey all over Boston, venture into the suburbs, and get to and from Logan Airport with ease via the MBTA, affectionately known as “the T”.

We encourage you to take public transpor- tation during your Boston visit. The Hynes Convention Center is accessible via sev- eral bus routes and is just steps away from four subway stations: Hynes Convention Center, Copley and Prudential on the Green line and Back Bay on the Orange Line. Check out the Public Transit map on page 20 and be sure to visit mbta.com to plan your customized travel route.

Here are our suggestions for the quickest routes to and from the Hynes.

To the Hynes via MBTA Subway/Orange Line Take the Orange Line to the Back Bay Station, a handicap accessible stop. Exit toward Dartmouth Street. Cross Dartmouth Street and enter Copley Place near Neiman Marcus. Proceed through Copley Place, pass the Marriott Hotel, and take the skybridge to The Prudential Center. Proceed through the “Pru” to “Center Court”. Go along the “Prudential Arcade” to “Hynes Court.” The Hynes Convention Center is directly ahead.

Back Bay The Vibe: Victorian brownstones, beautiful gardens, boating, shopping, and dining: Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood has it all! Stroll through the Public Garden and enjoy the breathtaking flowers in bloom while you delight in watching the children ride the Swan Boats. A walk down Newbury Street is a fashionista’s dream, with trendy boutiques and high-end designers mixed in with consignment shops and indie stores. With its posh and elegance, the Back Bay has a style of its own.

Boston Neighborhoods

Boston Neighborhoods

The Hynes is surrounded by several distinct neighborhoods, each having its own vibe and appeal. What makes Boston unique is that its diversity and culture can change from one block to the next. We invite you to explore our wonderful neighborhoods and make the most of your free time right here in the Hynes’s backyard.

Why you should go there: It is right outside the front door of the Hynes! Copley Square, which is located in the heart of the Back Bay, is an architectural gem, as it is home to two of Boston’s tallest buildings, as well as the historic Trinity Church, and the Boston Public Library. The popular Copley Place and Prudential Center shop-ping malls offer even more retail therapy and dining options. If time permits, take a short stroll to the Charles River, where you can sit back and take in the scenery of sailboats and joggers.

South EndThe Vibe: Tree-lined streets, red brick bow front townhomes, residential parks, art galleries, and restaurants. You will find all of this and more in this revitalized and energized Boston neighborhood. Tremont Street in the South End is often referred to as “Restaurant Row”, boasting a diverse mix of cuisines that includes Brazilian, Ethiopian, and African, among others. This hip and diverse neighborhood is also a hotbed for culture and artists, most notably on Sundays at its open market that brings together local artists, designers, and crafters in an outdoor setting.

Why you should go there: The food options alone are reason enough to head over the few blocks from the Hynes and explore the South End. But the multitude of parks and green space make it a great place to go for a walk or read a book on a

FenwayThe Vibe: Quirky. Sophisticated. Collegiate. Boston’s Fenway is a vibrant neighborhood of colleges, culture and, of course, Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. From the pizza joints and upscale dining, to the world-renowned museums and the best places in Boston to see a live band, Fenway is an eclectic hot-spot for just about anyone.

Why you should go there: While many visitors come to Fenway to get a glimpse of “America’s Most Beloved Ball-park”, it is the green space and beautiful parks originally designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted that has truly transformed the neighborhood. “The Fens” has been called a treasure trove of discoveries and delights, and this is

evidenced by the mix of formal and com-munity gardens, ball fields, memorials and historic structures. Art lovers can spend an entire day at the museums, where you will delight in seeing the works of Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Degas, and other notables.

Boston Neighborhoods

Faneuil HallThe Vibe: The area around Faneuil Hall, which includes the Rose Kennedy Greenway and Government Center, is bustling with activity. Grab lunch from one of the many food trucks that line the Greenway and head to Faneuil Hall Marketplace to watch the world-renowned street performers and musicians captivate the crowd. Pick up a souvenir at a pushcart or get your retail fix at any of the 70+ stores in the area. When it’s time to relax, the Rose Kennedy Greenway, Boston’s only organically maintained public park, is a great spot to wind down and peo-ple watch. You can even cool off in one of the seven water features on a hot day. It’s no wonder why this part of Boston is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world!

Beacon HillThe Vibe: Walking around Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood gives you the sense that you are back in time. Its charm and character exudes from the hilly, narrow streets, brick sidewalks, gas lights, and beautifully adorned front doors. Beacon Hill

has over 10,000 residents, who fill in every nook and cranny of this neigh-borhood and give it a sense of commu-nity and familiarity. Antique shops and restaurants adorn Charles Street, the main street in Beacon Hill, while sitting high on the hill with its beautiful gold dome is the Massachusetts State House, which overlooks Boston Common.

ChinatownThe Vibe: An iconic and welcoming three-story pagoda marks the entrance to Boston’s Chinatown. Rich with tradi-tion, culture, and of course, great food, Chinatown may be small but it is the third largest in the country, behind only New York and San Francisco. The streets are maze-like, filled with everything from Chi-nese to Malaysian restaurants, old school bakeries to more contemporary ones, food markets, beauty salons, and retail stores. There is a vibrancy to Chinatown that is unparalleled!

South Boston WaterfrontThe Vibe: The South Boston Waterfront is buzzing with activity! From trendy restau-rants to chic shops and eclectic museums, you feel the energy the moment you arrive. It’s no wonder the area is home to a unique combination of startups and major compa-nies, creating a dynamic urban environment that fosters innovation, collaboration, and growth.

The South Boston Waterfront offers many-places to eat. Enjoy a savory lunchtime lobster roll or sip a cocktail at one of the many outdoor roof decks that overlook the water. A growing list of diverse retail shops, museums, and hotels add to the area’s vibrancy and vitality. And in the warmer months, you just may overhear a concert being performed by one of today’s leading artists at the nearby pavilion. Dining. Shop-ping. Music. There is never a dull moment at the South Boston Waterfront!

North EndThe Vibe: Boston’s “Little Italy” is a one-square mile urban neighborhood steeped in culture and tradition. It is Boston’s oldest neighborhood and is home to too many Italian restaurants to count! Its narrow and winding streets are lined with shops and restaurants, with many of them spilling onto the sidewalks in the summertime. While the food and the summer “feasts” are the main attractions for visitors and residents alike, the North End is also bursting with history, making this geographically compact neighborhood a must-see!
