John A. Coleman Catholic High School May 2018 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL It is May - although it hasn’t exactly felt like Spring has arrived. The weeks go by so very quickly and we continue to be busy here at Coleman. The Seniors went to the annual Mass with the Cardinal last week and we officially have four weeks left for them. The last day of class for Seniors is Friday, May 25 th . Graduation practice is Wednesday, May 30 th , Baccalaureate is Thursday, May 31 st , and Graduation is Saturday, June 2 nd . Please keep all our Seniors in your prayers as they prepare to move on with their education. We will miss them. Thursday, May 17 th is the Junior/Senior Prom at Novella’s in New Paltz. That day is a Faculty Conference Day and all students are off. We e-mailed everyone a letter we received from the Ulster County District Attorney about keeping all students safe during prom season. If you didn’t see it, please check with us and we will resend it. There is no school on Friday, May 18 th . At our Conference Day, the Faculty and Staff will be participating in a full day Safety and Security Training Program. It will include many aspects of school safety. Please remember that school is in session on May 24, 25. The students are off on the 17 and 18. Our spring theatre production, “Godspell”, will have performances on May 3, 4. 5. Please be sure to reserve your tickets for this all-student run production. It is a great show!! The students are very excited to be producing every aspect of the show. AP exams start on May 7 th . They will be held on the 3 rd floor. It is important that students get a good night’s sleep before the exam and be on time for each test. AP exams run for two weeks. I look forward to the weather finally changing. It is an exciting time of the year for sports. I hope the weather cooperates. May God continue to bless all of us here at Coleman, look after all of our endeavors, and keep watch over all in the Coleman family.

GOLF TOURNAMENT MEETING: Our annual tournament is a great event and a large

fundraiser for our school! It will be held on July 16, 2018. We are always

looking for new members for the committee to work on sponsorships and

overall needs of the tournament. This month’s meeting will be on Monday MAY 7TH at 6:30pm. If anyone has questions regarding the committee they can

contact the school office at 338-2750 or Bryan Smith, committee chair at 845-

334-0064.

JUNIOR/SENIOR PROM: This year’s prom will be held on Thursday

May 17th from 7:00 - 11:00pm at Novella’s in New Paltz (2 Terwilliger

Lane) Appetizers, Buffet dinner, Dessert and soft drinks will be served.

Cost: $20.00 for Seniors, $50.00 for Juniors and $50.00 for Guests of both

classes. Checks payable to John A. Coleman and due by Monday May 7th.

A permission slip is required for all Non-Coleman students. They are

available in the office.

CATHOLIC YOUTH NIGHT: On Friday May 11th from 7:00-9:00pm there will

be an ENCOUNTER Catholic Youth Night here at Coleman. All are welcome –

invite a friend! Faith-Fun-Food-Fellowship!!

FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS: All financial obligations are due by Friday May

18th. Please make sure all your tuition and fees are paid by this date. The Portal

will not be available until all balances are paid in full.

TUESDAY MAY 22ND at 6:30pm is our annual Sports Awards for all

students who have participated in any sport during the year. All students

will receive a certificate and pin and M.I.P. and M.V.P. awards will be

presented. We hope all student athletes will attend. Pizza will be served.

WEDNESDAY JUNE 6TH at 7:00pm will be Academic

Awards. Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will be presented

with Academic Awards. Invitations will be mailed soon to

those receiving awards.

REGISTRATION IS ONGOING The registration information for next year has been sent in

the mail. Please register as soon as possible. Please send

in the registration fee of $300, payable to John A. Coleman

Catholic High School, along with the signed FACTS Tuition

Management form that you received in the mail. You will be

choosing your child’s courses for next year online. Any

questions please call the office.

RAISING HEARTS AND VOICES TO GOD CONCERT: Sunday, May

20th at 2:00pm at the Church of St. Peter, 90 Wurts Street, Kingston there will be

a concert to support the Perpetual Adoration Chapel of Ulster County. It will

feature Kimberly Kahan, Lyric Soprano and Lily Kahan, Violin. Reception will

follow the concert at Catholic Charities, 6 Adams Street, Kingston.

Hello Parents,

It’s hard to believe that we’re approaching the end of another school year. Although we have only

one full month of school left, there are still plenty activities and events to enjoy and prepare for.

Please see below for special dates and how you can help out.

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday May 15th 6:30pm. Hope to see you there!

Upcoming Events/Information

THANK YOU – to all who helped make this year’s Wine & Cheese the fabulous event it is every

year! We truly appreciate all the parents who bought tickets, donated an item, volunteered, or

promoted the event to others. The Wine & Cheese wouldn’t have been the success it is without

you!! This year, we made $21,000!

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK: Is May 7-11. An email will go out with opportunities to show

our teachers and staff how FABULOUS we think they are!

Sports Awards ceremony will be held in the cafeteria on May 22rd.

Academic Awards ceremony will be held on June 6th for freshman, sophomores and juniors.

PA OFFICERS: We are looking for individuals to serve as Parent Association Officers. All positions
