WHAT IS JOGED BUMBUNG ?Joged Bumbung is a social dance that is very popular and love by Balinese peoples. This dance is classified as balih-balihan dance which is performed not for religious ceremonies but for entertainment purposes only. Joged Bumbung is the most popular Joged dance. Joged Bumbung is derived from the word “joged” that means dance and the word “bumbung” refers to a length of hollow bamboo.

WHAT IS JOGED BUMBUNG ?Joged Bumbung dancers may wear two different types of costumes, including a simple lace kebaya blouse and a kamen (sarong) or gold gilded material wrapped around their bodies. The headdress is in the legong style, covered in flowers and gold paint that called Gelungan. A dancer carries a fan and a scarf (saput) which is used to wrap a dancer from the audience (pengibing).

HISTORY OF JOGED BUMBUNGHistorically, Joged Bumbung dance is created around 1946 in Buleleng Regency. An artist from Seririt, I Gusti Made Labda developed Joged Bumbung dance that was originally using coconut shells as the accompanying music, and then replaced with gerantang that is made of bamboo. There are a lot of types of Joged dance: Joged Bumbung, Joged Pingitan, Joged Pudengan, dan Joged Gandrung.

HISTORY OF JOGED BUMBUNGThis Gamelan is also called barungan madya, its a gamelan barungan yhat used to accompany Joged Bumbung dance.Gamelan Joged Bumbung also called gamelan Gegrantangan, because the base instrument consists of bamboo shaped Gerantang (a kind of tube).

HOW TO PERFORM JOGED BUMBUNG?

In the middle of the dance, the performers invite the members of the audience to dance with them, and this interaction is one of the reasons why Joged Bumbung has become so popular.

This dance is performed with gamelan music from Bali by two or more female dancers and sometimes even up into the hundreds.

HOW TO PERFORM JOGED BUMBUNG?The beginning of the Joged Bumbung’s creation, there is not a structure or pattern that binds, but this dance arises from spontaneous expressions with the space given to the audience to express their feel and their response to the surrounding environment. Joged Bumbung dance’s performance has adopted a lot of elements from the outside. The dance movements are more organized. In the non-physical terms it is clearly visible in the gamelan accompanist that has happened the collaboration of Javanese gamelan and the other supporting instruments. HOW TO PERFORM JOGED BUMBUNG?In some places gamelan Joged Bumbung is also equipped with some Kepyak (a rupture bamboo tube) and also reyong. About Joged Bumbung Gamelan repertoire taken from folk songs, tabuh-tabuh (percussion) Gong Kebyar, Pop songs and Gegandrangan (a dance together among dancers and pengibing).

HOW TO PERFORM JOGED BUMBUNG?This Gamelan is five tone slendro (same as gender wayang) and to play an instrument gerantang drummers (penabuh) wear 2 pelvis, the right plays ornamentation (kakembangan), while the left plays the basic melody.The gamelan Joged Bumbung instruments is consists of:

Joged bumbung is usually performed at weddings, celebration of the Hindu, National holidays, in places of tourism and so on. Joged bumbung dance is very popular in the community of Bali, it can be said Jogedbumbung is a populist dance, all groups were able to watch the show regardless of position or social status.

WHERE JOGED BUMBUNG TAKE PLACE?When in the area Pura, Joged bumbung hold the show in Jaba, where all activities can be carried out in such places. Surely the people of any kind can work there, including teenagers and children can free watch any show at Jaba especially show Joged bumbung.Joged bumbung so attached to the people of Bali because it has a very high entertainment aspect.
