Three hundred JMG students attended the conference held May 1st and 2nd at the Billings Hotel & Convention Center in Billings. The competitive events are the main focus of the CDC with over 17 categories that relate directly to JMG’s curriculum. There were 384 competitive event entries. It was wonder- ful to have so many students competing! The students also attended career related workshops. Cass Staton, Outreach Coordi- nator for Eastern Montana Area Health Education Cen- ter, presented information on health care careers, one of the fastest growing career fields in the nation. Cass gave an over- view of health careers and then the students got to practice suturing and wound care using a banana. Once again, Chet Leach and his drumming workshop was a hit! Chet shared his story of building a career he was pas- sionate about by working smart and from the heart. Chet involves all the students in drumming by supplying drums for all to use. Chet owns the Rhythms Drum & Dance Store in Bozeman. Need help? Learn how to de- fend yourself! FAST (Fear Adrenal Stress Training) was presented by martial arts experts, Dennis Forleo and Alex Taylor. They explained how their martial arts back- ground became a career and a business. They then showed the students basic self defense moves such as SHOUTING! The Montana Conservation Corps and Sarah Sadowski, Young Adult Service Corps Director, presented an inter- active workshop on leader- ship and volunteering. Joining Sarah in this work- shops was Program Coordi- nator for the Montana Con- servation Corps, Kevin Syl- vester. This year’s CDC also included the Coordinated Chaos activity, an Ice cream Social, Talent Competition, swimming and the Awards Luncheon on Wednesday. Throughout the luncheon all of the competitive event win- ners received awards, schol- arships were presented and the Chairmen’s Recognition Award winners were recog- nized. Steve Bullock, Montana At- torney General, was the luncheon special guest. The 22nd annual JMG Career Development Conference (CDC) was a success! Three hundred JMG students attended the conference held May 1st and 2nd at the Billings Hotel & Convention Center in Billings. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

The Jobs for Montana’s Graduates Foundation is proud to have a partner-ship with the Student Assistance Foundation (SAF). This year SAF provid-ed a grant to the JMG Foundation for five scholarships with a value of $500 each. Those awarded scholarships from SAF are: Patricia Ayre & Kylee McDonnell, Roberts HS; Brooke Calloway, Libby HS; Haley Lipszyc, Glas-gow HS; and Kara Royan, Cascade HS. The State Workforce Investment Board provided funding for three $1000 scholarships for JMG students. Those receiving the $1000 scholarships are: Robert Earhart, Plains HS; and Katherine Hibbs & McKenzie Ropp, both of Roberts HS. Jobs for America’s Graduates awarded a $1000 Smith Scholarship to McKenzie Ropp of Roberts HS.

Chairman’s Recognition Award Each year the Career Specialists nomi-nate for the Chairman’s Recognition Award those students who have done superior work in JMG. These awards are given to the students who have contributed, not only in the classroom, but in their communities as well.
