Inside this issue:
The 22nd annual JMG Career Development Conference (CDC) was a success! Three hundred JMG students attended the conference held May 1st and 2nd at the Billings Hotel & Convention Center in Billings. The competitive events are the main focus of the CDC with over 17 categories that relate directly to JMG’s curriculum. There were 384 competitive event entries. It was wonder-ful to have so many students competing! The students also attended career related workshops. Cass Staton, Outreach Coordi-nator for Eastern Montana Area Health Education Cen-ter, presented information on health care careers, one of the fastest growing career fields in the nation. Cass gave an over-view of health careers and then the students got to practice suturing and wound care using a banana. Once again, Chet Leach and his drumming workshop was a hit! Chet shared his story of
building a career he was pas-sionate about by working smart and from the heart. Chet involves all the students in drumming by supplying drums for all to use. Chet owns the Rhythms Drum & Dance Store in Bozeman.
Need help? Learn how to de-fend yourself! FAST (Fear Adrenal Stress Training) was presented by martial arts experts, Dennis Forleo and Alex Taylor. They explained how their martial arts back-ground became a career and a business. They then showed the students basic self defense moves such as SHOUTING!
The Montana Conservation Corps and Sarah Sadowski, Young Adult Service Corps Director, presented an inter-active workshop on leader-ship and volunteering. Joining Sarah in this work-shops was Program Coordi-nator for the Montana Con-servation Corps, Kevin Syl-vester. This year’s CDC also included the Coordinated Chaos activity, an Ice cream Social, Talent Competition, swimming and the Awards Luncheon on Wednesday. Throughout the luncheon all of the competitive event win-ners received awards, schol-arships were presented and the Chairmen’s Recognition Award winners were recog-nized. Steve Bullock, Montana At-torney General, was the luncheon special guest. He welcomed the students and presented them with their awards.
22ND ANNUAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
May 2012
COORDINATED CHAOS Coordinated Chaos is cer-tainly the right name for this crazy mixed up series of team activities that has become in-creasingly popular at CDC.
This opening activity is a great ice-breaker and provides stu-dents the opportunity to meet and mingle with participants from different schools from around the state.
Students are divided into 32 teams from different schools. They then work together to complete activities at 8 differ-ent stations within a 10 mi-nute time limit. Activities included Wordles, Charades in Motion, Scavenger Hunt, Professional Pictionary, JMG Challenge, Landing the Per-fect Job, The Climbing Wall, and Team Roping.
Prizes were awarded to the top three competing teams.
