1.1 Problem Statement

Most of the two billion people without access to electricity live in thinly populated areas in

developing countries and the extension of the grid to these areas for economical reasons not

feasible (Haufstein, 1996).observe that at this very moment a large part of the global village lives

in Poverty and suffers a lack of water, as result electricity which is consider as one of the major

source of cleaner energy. In Sub-Saharan Africa, less than 10% of the rural population has access

to electricity and due to high population growth, the number of people without electricity is

expected to rise in the sub - region. The EIA estimates that, if current trends do not change, the

number of people without electricity will rise to 1.2 billion by the year 2030. However, Energy

poverty is a phenomenon describing non availability of, or inadequacies in accessing affordable,

reliable, quality, safe and environmentally benign energy services to support sustainable

economic and human development. Poor people mostly women and children need energy

(electricity) for many tasks (lighting, cooking, mechanical power, heating, cooling and

communication), to meet their basic need for all inclusive sustainable development. Above stated

issues required questions: what source of energy that is required to access that will improve the

people standard of living? Is energy poverty as a result of energy accessibility?

1.2. Objectives of the Study

The general objective of this study is to analyze the Electricity Energy source for rural woman in

Nigeria, More specifically the study intends to:

1. Assess the impact of Electricity Energy as a mix of policy in Nigeria

2 Suggest the way forward out of the current energy policy mixed for Energy accessibility

1.3. Justification for the Study

Since electrification commenced, rural electrification has brought many benefits to remote and

rural societies. Today, it plays a vital role in such societies, socially, environmentally and

economically. Since very large and reasonable number of inhabitants of these rural and remote

communities still lack required energy to alleviate their poverty, the study is highly necessary to

address: The best source, form and means of providing electricity, making it accessible and

affordable for the communities. It is noted that rural and remote areas often have substantial

renewable energy potential. The IEA Renewable Energy Working Group Party (IEA 1999)

argues that renewables are localised energy sources and that their deployment benefits rural and

remote communities in terms of employment and income generation. New technologies effect at

both the supply side and the demand side and there is reason to believe that current developments

and trends in the power sector will have an effect on the way rural electricity supply is

approached. It is also likely that the developments will not only influence new systems but also

existing rural electricity supply schemes. Previous work do not consider the work energy access

of rural woman far away from the grid, but rather on income and wealth, therefore this study

address constraints and drawbacks from both the demand and supply sides of electricity energy

sources electricity on the inhabitants’ economic wellbeing.

1.4 Scope of the Study

This study will consider the impact of Electricity access to rural woman energy policy reform in

Nigeria using a comparative analysis It focuses on energy poverty and energy access policy in

Nigeria. The study will make use of survey data of stake holder in the electricity sector ascertain

efficiency energy poverty policy in Nigeria. The period of 2005 to 2012 this is because the

period witness a lot of issues with the policy in Nigeria.

1.5 Plan of the Study

study comprises of five chapters, chapter one introduces the topic, chapter two present the and

literature review and background of the study, while chapter three is the research methodology ,

chapter four presents the empirical data analysis and interpretation of results, and the final

chapter presents the policy findings and study conclusions.
