Shri A.K. Jha, CMD, NTPC leads panel discussion on

in COP 21, Paris.Climate Change and Generation of Thermal Power

In his address, Shri A.K. Jha, CMD, NTPC said India's per capita consumption and emission are one of the lowest globally. However to evolve on Human Development Index (HDI), which is dismal at 135 presently, the country needs to accelerate power capacity addition. He stated that the share of India in CO2

space is mere 2.8% but still it has to embark upon the largest renewable program to reach 175 GW RE capacity by 2022. However, since RE is not available 24x7, India has to look for adequate balancing power from coal as India does not have enough gas and oil resources.Stressing that coal is not an option but compulsion for India, Shri Jha spoke about research being carried on Advance Ultra Super Critical technology by different countries to enhance efficiency of coal plants. However, there is an urgent need to cooperate and share the developments by various countries to accelerate the pace of development and in the interest of the climate change without linking this to commercial/IPR issues.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a fictional male reindeer, usually depicted as a young calf who barely has antlers, with a glowing red nose. He is depicted as the lead reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve. The luminosity of his nose is so great that it illuminates the team's path through inclement winter weather. In 1939, as part of a Christmas promotional campaign, staff copywriter Robert L. May created the character and illustrated poem of "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer", as an assignment for Chicago-based Montgomery Ward. The retailer had been buying and giving away coloring books for Christmas every year and it was decided that creating their own book would save money. In its first year of publication, Montgomery Ward had distributed 2.5 million copies of Rudolph's story.
