The JLS is continuing its work on advocating on the issue of human trafficking. We are pleased that Theresa Flores (author of The Slave Across the Street) will be speaking at the March GMM (Tuesday March 10th) on her own story of survival being trafficked out of her own home as a 15 year old teenager. She will also be training us on her S.O.A.P.S. project.

Please come and hear her story and learn about her project. She has also agreed to tell her story at a special breakfast Wednesday morning (March 11th). Her personal account of the underground world of human trafficking will help us further the work on educating the community that it can happen here.

Pass on the information to friends and colleagues. Tickets are available on the JLS website www.jlsyracuse.org

The new website is here! Please take some time to view the site and log in to the members only section. You were sent an email with your log in instructions. In the members only section of the website there are so many great features that we have to make our League work so much easier and more efficient.

» You no longer need to contact the office for changes. Just log on and all your information can be updated immediately

• You now can sign up for community events. Just go to the item on the calendar and click register» New to the calendar is the ability to sign up for the GMMs. While it

is not mandatory to register to attend a GMM if you take the time to register it will help us know how many members to prepare for in terms of seating and refreshments

• You will now be able to pay your dues directly on the member’s only side and sign up for a payment plan if needed

• You now will be able to see your obligations and what is outstanding on your member profile page

Thank you, Sustainers, for your nominees for the Mary Harriman Award! It’s been fun to read your submissions and consider this year’s recipient. Look for the honoree’s bio in the next NOTES.

Now that we have that award solidified, let’s consider our Sus-tainer of the Year nominee. Please send a brief email or give me a phone call to pitch your suggestions for the 2015 Sustainer of the Year. There are so many wonderful and deserving women out there. Let’s give them the recognition they deserve!

This will also be my final push for the Spring Cocktail Party. We need a host-ess and a few extra helping hands to make this event come together. We will select a date in either April or May that fits with the hostess’ schedule.

The monthly R&R’s continue to be well attended at Pascale Italian Bistro at Drum-lins. If you have not been yet this year, we hope to see you before the summer break.

Happy Spring…finally!

The Sustainer/Active book club meeting on January 12 was a great success. It was a fun night of discussion about Boys in the Boat, a true story of beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of

times — the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Join us for our next meeting:

• March 31, Time/Loca-tion TBD: One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus.
