    - wind instruments (flute, oboe,clarinet, bassoon, trumpet,

    French horn, trombone)

    - ballet (solo, duet, trio and quartet)

    - Oriental classical folk dance (solo, duet and ensembles of

    up to 12 persons)

    - character dance (solo, duet and ensembles of up to

    12 persons)

    - folk dance (solo, ensembles of up to l6 persons)

    - national folk instruments (solo, ensembles of up to

    8 persons)

    - accordion, piano-accordion, concertina, harmonica including

    mouth organ and other instruments of this kind)

    - guitar

    - promenade orchestra, Jarz and light music of up to 15 persons,

    not including soloists

    - amateur choirs (up to 60 persons)- modem ballroom dancing (in couples)

    CLASSICAL SONG

    The competitions will be for solo voices, mens tenors, barritones,

    basses. Women’s voices: light sopranos, lyric-dramatic sopranos, mezzo-

    sopranos and contraltos.

    Participants may be artists, students or amateurs who have not reach

    ed 32 years of age before the 31st of December 1957.

    Ther* will be two elimination contests: a compulsory programme

    will be announced in September 1956 or later. The competitions for duets,

    trios and quartets will be held separately. Repertoire will be chosen

    by the perfonner on condition that duets, trios and quartets from operas

    must be included. The competitions will be held in publio. Each perform

    ance must not last for longer than 20 minutes.

    Participants will give one performance of not longer than 25 min-lyites.

    PIANO

    Artists, students and amateurs who have not reached 32 years of age

    before December 31st, 1957* may take part in the competition.

    Two elimination contests will be held; a compulsory programme is en

    visaged for the competition; it will be published in September 1956 or

    later. The competition will be in public. The performance must not be long

    er than 50 or 35 minutes on each occasion.

    STOI N0ED_INS TRUITTS

    (violin, viola, violj.ncello, quartet)

    In this competition, artists, students and amateurs who have not reach ed 32 years of age before December }lst, 1957. may take part.

    Two elimination contests will be held; a compulsory programme is en

    visaged for this competition, the programme for which will be published in

    September 1956 cr later. On each occasion the performance must not last

    longer than 30 or 35 minutes.

    Entrants in the quartet competition will present a repertoire of their

    own choioe. The competition will take place in two rounds. In each round,

    performances must not last longer than 35 minutes.

    WIND _ I^TRUKEIfrS

    (Flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, trombone)

    In this competition, artists, students and amateurs who have not

    reached 32 years of age before the 31st of December 1957 may take part.

    Two elimination contests will be held; a compulsory programme is en

    visaged for the competition. The works to be performed will be announced in September 1956 or later.

    In this competition, artists, students and amateurs who have not reached >2 years of age before the 31st of Decenfcer 1957 may take part.

    The competition is envisaged for soloists, duets, trios and quartets.

    In making ite decision, the Jury will take into consideration the existence of different schools and styles of danoing.

    The competition will be held in public in a single round. Performances must not last longer than 10 minutes.

    ORIENTAL CLASSICAL POLK DANCES

    In this competition artis ;, students and amateurs not over >2 years of age by the Jlst of December i.957 may take part.

    It la proposed to hold separate competitions for soloists, duets and ensembles of up to 12 persons.

    The Jury of the competition will take into account the advice of

    •sports on different schools and national style*. In this competition the

    mabcr of diplomas and first, second and third place prises 1* not limited.

    The principal criterion in the decisions of the jury will be the artistic level and the vlrfeoelty of the performers,

    The competition will be held In publio and In one round with the per

    formance of one or two claaalcal dances in the oriental style. Bach dance will last no longer than 10 minutes.

    CHARACTER DANCES

    In the eompetitioii, artists, students and amateuro not more than years of age on 1957 may take part.

    A separate competition will be held for soloists, dueta and en- aembles of,up to 12 persons.

    The competition will be in one round and will be held in public.Each dance must last no longer than 10 minutes.

    In this competition, artists, students and amateurs who have not reached 32 years of age by the 31st of December 1957 may take part.

    The elimination competition is proposed for soloists and ensembles of up to 4 persons, in two rounds. In each round, two works to be chosen

    by the competitors, will bê performed, of which one must be a national me

    lody, or its arrangement. For soloists the performance must not last longer

    than 15 minutes at the most and for ensembles the maximum is 20 minutes.

    ACCORDION»_PIANO.ACCORDION, CONCERTINA, HARMQ8ICA,

    - > _0RGAN_AND SIMILAR INSTRUMENTS

    In this competition, artists, students and amateurs who will not be 32 years of age by the 31st of December 1957 may tak*r part.

    The elimination competition will be for soloists, duets, trios and

    quartets, in two rounds. In each round performers must present two works of their own choice.

    The performance must not last longer than 2q minutes in each round.

    PROMENADE_0RCHB3TRAS, JAZZ AND

    LIGHT JWSIC

    In this competition, promenade orchestras of young people, students

    or amateurs up to 15 performers, excluding the conductor and soloists,

    may take part. The composition of the orchestras according to the charac

    ter of the instruments is not restricted and may conform to national tra

    ditions. Each participant must :ot be more than 32 years of age by the 31st of Dectmber 1957, with the exception of the conductor.

  • In this competition amateur choirs of young people and students of

    not more than 60 persons may take part. The age of each participant must

    not bt more than 32 years by the 31st of December 1957, with the excep

    tion of the Choirmaster who ms/ be a professional artist.

    The competition will be held in public in on. round. The programme

    must include popular and classical works, of which It is compulsr-rj that

    one be "a capella". The programme must not take longer than 30 minutes.

    Ths Jury may distribute prizes separately according to the type of choir and the number of participants.

    MODERN_BALLROOM _DANCING

    The competition is open to all amateurs of this art who will be less

    than y*j years of age on the 31st of December 1957.

    Tht competition will be held during special dances organised at the

    Vlth Festival, Competing couples must take part in five dances: slow walz,

    slow foxtrot, quick foxtrot, tango and Viennese Waltz.

    It would be desirable to submit a recording of the work on tape or

    by some other weans oi recording.

    In the song competition, recognition will be given not only to the

    composer but also to the writer of the song.

    The words of the songs must be presented in the m o t h e r tongue of

    the author with a translation word for word in one of the following lan

    guages: English, French. Spnnisn, German, Russian.

    tional Film Festival fro« July 50th to August 10th 1957.

    All film producers wishing to participate in the Festival may do

    so. The subjects of the f^.lo» to be shown at the Festival can be noet va

    ried and reflect different aspects of the life of the people. Priority

    should be given to films reflecting the desire for peace, the conditions

    for youth in different eountries, their life and tbeir work, and tbeir

    activities in defence of their rights snd a better future.

    Special Festival Prizes have been made available to encourage film

    workers and oil film producers to create films dedicated to youth. These

    Prizes will be awarded to the best authors of films under the following

    three categories:

    1 .) Feature films dedicated to present-day life of young people in

    any country}2.) Feature films on any subject, produced by young film workers,

    who are not older than 35 years of age.3 .) Shorts, documentaries, travel, scientific and popular films

    and cartoons produced by young film workers, not older than 35 years

    of age. .

    A broadly representative international Jury will sclect the prize

    winning films.

    Separate prlies will be given for films produced by amateurs.

    Entries for the Film Festival should be received no later than

    June lft, 1957» the films should be received by July 1st, 1957 at the latest. Applications and entries should be sent to the. following ad*
