The Earth's climate has changed many times in the past. Subtropical forests have spread from the south into more temperate or milder, cooler climates areas.

Millions of years later, ice sheets spread from the north covering much of the northern United States, Europe and Asia with great glaciers. Today, nearly all scientists believe human

beings are changing the climate. How can that be?Over the past few centuries, people have been burning more

amounts of fuels such as wood, coal, oil, natural gas and gasoline. The gases formed by the burning, such as carbon dioxide, are building up

in the atmosphere. They act like greenhouse glass. The result, experts believe, is that the Earth is heating up and undergoing global warming.

How can you show the greenhouse effect?

• Two identical glass jars • 4 cups cold water • 10 ice cubes • One clear plastic bag• Thermometer

1. Take two identical glass jars each containing 2 cups of cold water.

2. Add 5 ice cubes to each jar.

3. Wrap one in a plastic bag (this is the greenhouse glass).

4. Leave both jars in the sun for one hour.

5. Measure the temperature of the water in each jar.

In bright sunshine, the air inside a greenhouse becomes warm . The greenhouse glass lets in the sun's light energy and some of its heat energy. This heat builds up inside the greenhouse. You have just shown a small greenhouse effect. What do you think could happen if this greenhouse effect changed the Earth's climate?

Another version of a greenhouse is what happens inside an

automobile parked in the sun . The sun's light and heat gets into the vehicle and

is trapped inside, like the plastic bag around the jar. The temperature inside a car can get over

49 degrees Celsius.

Flash Mobs Flash Mobs One of the coolest crazes in dance is the awesome “flash mob”. It’s a large group of people (sometimes up to 20,000!) that just seem to break into a very well choreographed dance in a public place, starting with one or two dancers and then gradually building up to big numbers. Then when the song is over, they just walk away as though nothing ever happened. The crowd at first seems confused, then seem to really enjoy the dancing, and they never know if the person next to them is going to join in!

Imagine the amount of hard work and practice it must take to make a flash mob work, and also to keep it a secret so that all your effort is a MAJOR surprise!

You could try organising a flash mob dance in your school playground or at the park. Just make sure it is in a safe spot and you don’t cause too much disruption; flash mob dancing’s aim should be to have fun, entertain the crowd and spread the love!

This one was in London, England at a train station. How cool is the choreography?

This one was in Chicago, USA. There are more than 20,000 dancers performing with the Black Eyed Peas! Wow!

How about this one, is Stockholm, Sweden, with hundreds of people paying tribute to Micheal Jackson, with a cool dance to “Beat It”.

Even in Ukraine, they are dancing in the streets to Back Street Boys! There are loads of kids in this one, too!

This one was in Rome, Italy. They are dancing to a Glee mix, the end is brilliant!

Here is another one in a train station, in Belguim, with more than 200 dancers doing The Sound Of Music!

And finally, here is one on our very own Bondi Beach in Sydney! How funny is that?
