Fr. Joseph Sevcik with his family, the only ones who were allowed to attend his ordination last year due to the pandemic. He will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Patrick on July 4 at 3:30 PM followed by a celebration. All parishioners are invited.

MESSAGE FROM FATHER SEVCIK Hello St. Patrick Family, It's been quite a first year of priesthood out in Garner, Duncan, Britt, Forest City, Lake Mills, and Buffalo Center. All things considered, it has been a wonderful year even amidst the challenges. My pastor and I are fortunate to have many dedicated and faithful people who love their parishes. Each week we continue to meet new people and make a few more connections. I am very excited to see what the next year here brings. I am also excited to see whoever can come and celebrate on July 4th at St. Patrick. The readings for the Fourteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time are rather humorous in terms of coming back home to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving. (You will have to come to Mass and see what he means.) See you soon! It will be nice to be home! In Christ, Fr. Joseph Sevcik

WELCOME ARCHBISHOP JACKELS, HELLO FR. COLTER! This weekend, we welcome Archbishop Michael Jackels who is celebrating Masses at 5 PM Saturday and 7:30 and 9:30 AM Sunday. Father Colter will celebrate 11:30 AM Mass. Be sure to say hello!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Join with other members of St. Patrick Parish for prayer and meditation before the Blessed Sacrament. Monthly Eucharistic Adoration and Reconciliation will be Thursday, July 1, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM in the church. Reconciliation will be in the Chapel.

JOIN US FOR PARISH FAMILY ROSARY The Parish Family Rosary will be on Monday, July 5. We will meet in the Commons to pray the Rosary at 6:30 PM. Consider joining us in prayer, asking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for our individual and collective needs.

CLAIR & FLORINE ROWE’S 65TH ANNIVERSARY Clair and Florine met while they were both teachers in Dunkerton and were married June 30, 1956. They moved to Muncie, Indiana, where they had three children, while Clair was a Professor at Ball State University. In 1971, they moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota where Clair was the Dean of the Business School for 15 years. Clair and Florine wanted to be closer to their families, so in 1986 they returned to Iowa and made Cedar Falls their home. Clair took on many roles at the College of Business at UNI, while Florine became very involved in St Patrick’s Parish. They also became snowbirds, spending their winters in Carpinteria, California. Both have always been active community volunteers, and still enjoy socializing with their friends and neighbors. They have been living in the Western Homes Community for the last 15 years, and are currently at: 5500 S. Main St. #57, Cedar Falls, IA 50613. This poem by Pamela Randolph sums up their married life best.

One Heart Touched by a light from Heaven,

Two lives unite as one. What God has brought together, On this earth can’t be undone.

Vows of love and loyalty, Seal the life the two will start.

Each common bond draws closer, Two lives, two minds, one heart.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL SETS SAIL AT ST. PATRICK On Sunday, June 20, 53 kids “Set Sail with the Holy Trinity” at this year’s 3-day Vacation Bible School We kicked-off with a family picnic in honor of Fathers’ Day and God, the Father, our topic for Night One. We sang, we prayed, we played, we crafted, and we learned all about God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit. Snow cones, painting, and appearances by St. Patrick were just a few of the many highlights. Thank you parents and kids for taking part in our summer program. Thank you to the many parishioners who donated food and snacks. Thank you volunteers for your gift of time. Without volunteers, our programs would not happen and it takes MANY hands to insure fun and safety. Based on the powerful, joyful, faithful voices of our children in song and worship, St Patrick Church is in great shape for the future! See the whole crew in the photo above. Watch for more VBS photos next week! MORE ON YOUTH FAITH FORMATION PROGRAMS: 9TH—12TH By Rosie Guerrero, Director of Children and Youth Faith Formation We will be offering religious education for youth in 9-12th grades from 7:30-9 PM Wednesdays during the school year. It will be a combination of grade level small groups and all high school grades large group. Ninth grade youth are still required to participate in religious education, as this counts towards pre-sacramental preparation before starting confirmation sacramental preparation in the spring. However, any 9th grade youth wishing to be confirmed who attends or does not attend Catholic school will still need to register for confirmation sacramental preparation in January 2022. Our 9-12th grade religious education will focus on spiritual development, the “hot topics” of youth, social teaching, discipleship, and leadership. Religious education for 10-12th grade youth may feel foreign, as we haven’t had anything formal until now. However, this is a reminder that Confirmation is not a graduation, but a stepping stone to take ownership of our Catholic faith, and if anything, dive deeper into it. Therefore, we’re trying something new at St. Patrick and youth should plan on participating in high school RE.

FAITH FORMATION FAMILIES UPDATE! Families with children from age 3 to youth in 12th grade will receive an email on Tuesday about registering for Faith Formation this Thursday, July 1. Registration will be available until Friday, August 13.

YOUTH MINISTRY - Youth Ministry activities will resume in August with our annual canoe trip and a few other activities before school starts.

PARISH OFFICE TO BE CLOSED JULY 5 The parish office will be closed Monday, July 5 for the Independence Day holiday. The office will reopen on June 6 at 9 AM.

55 YEARS AS A PRIEST We give thanks for the abundant blessings of God to our parish family at St. Patrick in celebrating the 55-year anniversary of Fr. Colter’s ordination to the priesthood! Fr. Colter has served as pastor at St. Patrick since 2012. We are proud to call him friend, pastor, and brother in Christ. Please continue to offer your prayers and support to Fr. Colter. We encourage our parishioners to share a message of congratulations or a story or memory in celebration of this milestone. Photos are appreciated as well. Drop them off at the parish office, and we will deliver them to him. A graduate of Loras College in Dubuque and the University of Louvain, Belgium, Fr. Colter was ordained June 25, 1966 in Louvain, Belgium by the Most Rev. Victor J. Reed. DOORS CLOSED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION As you have probably seen, the City of Cedar Falls has begun its Washington Street construction project past the church and school. Until the construction project is complete, the doors on the west side of the church will be closed for the safety of our parishioners. The city estimates this project will last for up to 10 weeks depending on the weather. CDA POP CAN REDEMPTION Catholic Daughters collect pop cans and plastic bottles for redemption and use the proceeds for a college scholarship for a high school senior. You can place empty pop cans and plastic bottles in the container outside St. Patrick School or drop them off at the parish office. With the road Construction, you can reach the can container by driving east on 7th St. to the school. No glass, please! Thank you for your support!

In Our Parish MANY WAYS TO DONATE TO ST. PATRICK CHURCH Did you know there are multiple ways to donate to St. Patrick? We want to make it easy for our parishioners. If you would like to make changes to the way or amount you donate to St Patrick for the new fiscal year starting July 1, please call or email Marcia Patin, bookkeeper at [email protected].

Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) - St. Patrick has over 300 parishioners who use this giving method. It is a simple process to start and can be stopped at any time by contacting Marcia a week ahead of your regular deduction date. Contact Marcia Patin to start this option. There is no cost to you or the parish with this giving method.

Contribution Envelopes - Giving envelopes provided by the parish via USPS in bi-monthly packets.

WeShare Giving Online - Go to www.saintpatrickcf.org to find the link to this option. You will need to set up your own account and manage your gifts. On the WeShare website you can pay by credit card, debit card, or directly from your bank account. St. Patrick does pay a transaction fee for this service.

IRA Charitable Roll-Over Distribution - Check with your financial tax advisor or the institution who manages your 401k to see if you can use this method. At a certain age, this is a win-win for your finances and the parish as well. This distribution check must be sent directly from that institution to the church.

Stock Sale Proceeds - Maybe you own stock with a very low cost basis and the current value is high. The stock can be sold by a licensed broker and the church receives a check directly from the broker for the current value on the day it is sold. You pay no capital gain on the amount between the cost basis and the current value.

LIVESTREAM VOLUNTEERS REQUESTED Mass livestreaming will continue to be offered as restrictions loosen. If you would like to assist in bringing our Mass into the homes of those homebound or still unable to attend Mass in person, contact the parish Livestream coordinator, Regena Huffman, at: [email protected] for more details or to be trained.

TRAVELERS: As you are traveling this summer, think about donating unused toiletries you get from your hotels. Matthew 25 uses them in the food boxes we distribute.

GARDENERS: If you have an abundance of produce you would like to share with those in need, please drop off your extra fruits and veggies at the parish office. Your generosity is appreciated.

COMMUNITY MEALS TO RETURN First United Methodist Church has been given approval to begin serving Community Meals again. No start date has been decided on at this time, but a meeting will be held soon to determine this. St. Patrick will be in charge of the meal the 2nd Tuesday of each month as in previous years. Look for more information soon!

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL HOSTING A RUMMAGE SALE St. Vincent de Paul Society is sponsoring a rummage sale at its Outreach Center at 320 Broadway Street, Waterloo June 30 to July 2. Hours are 4-7 PM Wednesday June 30, 10 AM to 5 PM Thursday July 1, and 10 AM to 3 PM on Friday July 2.

FIRST READING: But by the envy of the devil, death entered the world, and they who belong to his company experience it. (Wis 2:24) PSALM: I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. (Ps 30) SECOND READING: Not that others should have relief while you are burdened, but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their needs, so that their abundance may also supply your needs, that there may be equality. (2 Cor 8:13-14) GOSPEL: He took the child by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koun,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise!” (Mk 5:41)

PRIESTS TO LEAD PILGRIMAGE TO POLAND Join Fr. Ivan Nienhaus (new priest at St. Patrick starting in September) and Fr. Dave Ambrosy on a Pilgrimage to Poland October 18-26. Explore the lives of many of our modern saints, St. Faustina, St. John Paul II, and St. Maximilian Kolbe. The group will visit the concentration camp at Auschwitz, the famous Wieliczka salt mines, see the painting of the Black Madonna in Czestochowa, plus so much more. Breakfast and dinner are included each day, and wine is served with dinner. The price out of Cedar Rapids or Des Moines is $3,699.00 per person. For more information you can contact Mary Johnston at 319-560-5138 or email [email protected] or on the web at www.pilgrimages.com/johnston.

JOIN IN A PRAYER FOR OUR PRIESTS We invite you to join us in prayer for Fr. Colter, Fr. Seda, Fr. Nienhaus, and the priests assisting with Mass in this transition period until Fr. Nienhaus joins us in September. The prayer comes from the Knights of Columbus. We thank you, God our Father, for those who have responded to your call to priestly ministry. Accept this prayer we offer on their behalf: Fill them with the sure knowledge of your love. Open their hearts to the power and consolation of the Holy Spirit. Lead them to greater union with your Son. Increase their faith in the Sacraments they celebrate as they nourish, strengthen and heal us.

Lord Jesus Christ, through the intercession of St. Jean Vianney, grant that your priests will be inspired to strive for holiness by the power of his example. As men of prayer, may they ponder your word, follow your will and faithfully lead the flocks you have entrusted to their care.

St. Jean Vianney, obtain for the Church an abundance of vocations to the holy priesthood. Through your intercession, may many faithful men hear Christ’s call, and respond with courage and generosity. Mary our Mother, guard with your maternal care these chosen ones. Intercede for our priests, so that by offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, they may be conformed more each day to the image of your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
