Lesson Introduction Activity:

Making Mud

Based on activity in Gospel Light’s Movers and Shakers Winter A pg 51.

Do: Pour water into a plastic bag with dirt. Add water a little at a time. Make

mud by squeezing the bag. Keeping the bag closed, you will experiment feeling the

mud.

Talk About:

• Where do you find dirt? What do we use dirt for? When do we

pour water on dirt?

Today we will hear what happened when Jesus put mud on a man’s eyes.

Bible Story: Read the story from the Young Reader’s Bible.

Now I See The Young Reader’s Bible

Pages 310-314

Jesus saw a man who had been born blind. The disciples asked Jesus, “Is this man blind

because he sinned or because his parents sinned?” “No,” said Jesus. “It is so that God’s power

can be shown in him.” Jesus spit on the ground and made some mud. He put the mud on the

blind man’s eyes. “Now go wash in the pool of Siloam,” Jesus told the man. The blind man did

what Jesus told him. And he could see! “Isn’t this the man who was blind from birth?” said the

neighbors. “How did this happen?” asked the teachers. “Truly the one who healed me is from

God,” said the happy man. But the teachers did not want to believe it. Jesus found the man

again. “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” asked Jesus. “Who is he?” said the man. Jesus

smiled. “You have seen Him now, and He is the one talking to you.” “Lord, I do believe in

you!” cried the happy man. “I came into this world so that many will believe,” said

Jesus.

Discussing the story: Ask: How did Jesus heal the blind man? Did the man believe in Jesus after he was

healed? How would you feel if you had never seen anything and suddenly you could see

everything? Jesus did this wonderful thing for the blind man because He loved Him. What

wonderful things has Jesus done for you to show that He loves you?

Say: Jesus healed the blind man. Jesus can do anything because He is the Son of God.

God gave us eyes to see! We can see many ways Jesus shows He loves us. We can thank Jesus

for all the wonderful things He has done for us. We can pray, sing, clap, shout, or whisper our

thanks to Jesus.

Pray: Thank God for giving us eyes to see. Thank Jesus for all the wonderful things He does for

us. Thank Jesus for loving us.

Craft:

Make a “Mother’s Day” card today. Use washable ink or paint to put fingerprints on the card as

you make the grapes.

Bible Game: Blind Beanbag Toss

Begin the game by practicing throwing beanbags or small balls into a tub. Then, one at a time,

put on a blindfold (or close eyes) and then throw the beanbags/ball into the tub.

Ask: “Was it easier to throw the bean bag in when you could see or when you could not

see?”

Prayer Time

Things to talk about: · God is good to give you friends. What friends did you play with today? · God is good to give you people who care for you. Who took care of you today? Words to pray together: Dear Jesus, thank You for (name people your child mentioned). You are good to us. We love You! In Jesus’ name, amen. Prayer for your child:

Dear God: May (child’s name) truly have eyes to see your love and ears to listen closely to your words.

(Psalm 4:20-21)

Family Fun Time

Take a treasure hunt walk inside or outside your home looking for specific items, such as a red car,

blue truck, mailbox. Look at all the different kinds and colors of vehicles and houses around the

neighborhood. Pray and thank God for giving us eyes to see all the beautiful things that God has

made.

Edible Mud

Make edible “mud” by melting 1 cup of chocolate chips or chocolate almond bark in a microwave oven.

Let the chocolate cool slightly, then dip pieces of fruit into the “mud”. Ask your child to tell you

how Jesus used mud to heal a blind man.
