US INDEXES

JPI

The Jersey Performance Index (JPI)includes Protein, Fat, Functional Trait Index,Productive life, Somatic Cell Score, DaughterPregnancy Rate, Cow Conception Rate, andHeifer Conception Rate.

Cheese Merit

Cheese Merit (CM$) measures the additional profit for dairies that may be selling to cheese markets. Includes same traits as NM$.

Grazing Merit

Grazing Merit is another version of NM$ designed for grazing dairies that placed more emphasis on traits important to grass based operations like daughter fertility and body size.

Net Merit

Net Merit (NM$) measures the additional net profit that a daughter will provide over her lifetime. Net merit is calculated by weighting the following traits: Protein, Fat, Milk, PL, Livability, Somatic Cell Score, Udder, Feet and Legs, Body Weight, Daughter Pregnancy Rate, Calving ease and Stillbirth.

Fluid Merit

Fluid Merit measures the genetic merit of a bull for farms who ship to a fluid market. Contains the same traits as NM$ with more emphasis on fluid production.

PTAT

Predicted Transmitting Ability Type (PTAT) refers to the genetic merit of total conformation that a bull transmits to his offspring of an animal. Calculated by Holstein USA.

JUI

The Jersey Udder Index (JUI) is composed of Udder Depth, Fore Udder Attachment, Rear Udder Height, Rear Udder Width, Udder Cleft, Front Teat Placement, and Rear Teat Placement. Traits are weighted based on their effect on longevity.

All offspring of the bulls in this catalogue are eligible to be registered with the UK Jersey society.

HEALTH BETTER LIFE HEALTH

Better Life Health (BLH %) indicates the extent to which a bull helps to breed a healthier herd.

EFFICIENCY BETTER LIFE EFFICIENCY

Better Life Efficiency (BLE %) indicates the extent to which a bull contributes to a more efficient herd. Improved milk and component production relative to feed intake, while accounting for longevity, body condition, and calving interval.

Beta Casein

Genotype for beta casein determines whether an animal produces A2A2, A1A2, or A1A1 milk. A2A2 is desired because of the possible association with greater digestibility for individuals who are intolerant to dairy products.

Kappa Casein

Kappa casein is a key protein in cheese making. The BB genotype is favorable for protein and chees making ability.

NZL INDEXES

NZMI

This is the CRV Ambreed desired gains index. It aims to breed a productive, long lasting cow that will typically produce about 450 kg MS a year by balancing production, management and type traits.

BW

Economic index that ranks bulls and cows on their expected ability to breed profitable and efficient replacements

Longevity

The total longevity breeding value is defined as the expected genetic merit of a cow to live for more (or fewer) days of herd life relative to the genetic base cows.

Live weight

the estimated live weight of the animal. This is usually one score lower that stature, and will likewise vary considerably between breeds.

Across all breed evaluation

The New Zealand bull data in this catalogue is displayed across all breeds (unless stated). This is in line with how data is displayed in New Zealand by NZAEL.
