I started skiing when I was 3 and snowboarding when I was 10 at Glasgow Ski and Snowboard Centre. I started competing when I went to university in 2009. I joined the British Snowboard Cross Team in October 2011. I train and compete with the British Snowboard Cross team across Europe throughout the year, training both on the mountain and working with strength and conditioning coaches to improve my strength and general fitness. I am just about to start my 5 th season with the British Snowboard Cross Team. I am currently ranked 1 st in Scotland, 3 rd in the UK and 112 th in the world for snowboard cross. Some of my past results have included 15 th at the World University Winter Games 2015, 7 th at the Kuehati FIS race 2014, 5 th at the British Championships 2015 and 1 st at the Scottish Championships 2015. I have also been selected twice to represent Great Britain at the World University Championships in December 2013 and again in February 2015. I am a qualified BASI level 1 ski and snowboard instructor. Currently I teach all levels of skiing and snowboarding, including freestyle coaching, to both adults and children at a dryslope in Glasgow when I am back in the UK. The sport of snowboard cross involves 4-6 riders racing down a course at the same time. The course includes different features for the riders to manage such as jumps, rollers and banked turns. The first rider to the bottom wins. It is a non-contact sport, however part of the fun of it is that all the riders want the same line down the course and crashes do happen. It is a sport that needs skill and determination as well as a little bit of luck. Snowboard cross is a fully self-funded sport in the UK. Each year training and competing in the sport normally cost between £10,000 and £15,000. This covers everything from new equipment, coaching and race entry fees to accommodation and insurance.
