Work Experience

Page 10: Jennifer Love Gironda- Professional Art Educuator

I have a solid background of related

work experience that will make me a

true asset to your program. .

I am currently teaching grades 5-8 visual art at an

International Baccalaureate middle school. In addition to my current placement, I have four years of high school teaching

experience, where I taught classes ranging from Art 1 to Honors Independent Study and two years at the K-2 level. I have also

worked as a Teacher’s Assistant for a Distance Education undergraduate-level Art Appreciation course, which introduced

me to teaching art in an on-line format. 10

K-2 Artwork

I have taught all levels of art, including two years of elementary school art. Switching to elementary after

teaching high school was quite a change for me but I have enjoyed working with younger students- and finding my inner child again, too! Above are some examples of K-2

student artwork.

High School

Art 1 Examples

I really enjoy teaching Art 1 students. For some students, this may be the only art class that they take in high school. I strive to bring out the best in all of my students- regardless of ability level. I feel

that my high expectations result in outstanding student work and a great experience for the students that I teach in Art 1.

Art 2 Examples

In my second level art classes I continue to set high standards for my students. I encourage my students to

create work that they can really put themselves into. I also go more in depth with the study of art history with these

students.

Advanced Art Examples

The advanced classes offer the chance for the student to emerge as an individual artist. I encourage my students at this level to concentrate on a centralized theme for their work so that they can see their own progression as artists. Portfolios

are the emphasis at this level.

15

I am committed to education outside the classroom, in the role of a facilitator of art classes and camps,

leadership programs and also as a cheerleading coach and judge, which demonstrates my ability to multitask. The following pages contain images from

some of these additional roles I have taken on.

But wait…there’s more!

Cheerleading Coach (Grades K-2)

I cheered all throughout high school and I have been so fortunate to be able to continue my love for cheerleading

through coaching and judging. The above pictures are from the squad I coached for Pitt County Community Schools and

Recreation.

Cheerleading Coach (Grades 9-12, JV, Varsity and Co-Ed Experience)

My high school squads have competed locally and regionally. While I do value competition as a part of my

program- I emphasize school spirit and sportsmanship first. I feel that this makes for a very rewarding experience, both for myself and for the girls (and guys) that I have coached.

Cheerleading Coach (Grades 9-12)

Several of my high school cheerleaders have gone on to cheer at the university level. The above pictures are

athletes that I coached that currently cheer for (from left to right) North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Western Carolina University. I

am so proud!

Extracurricular Art Activities (Grades K-2)

I actively seek partnerships within the community to offer art experiences to students outside of the school day.

Above are pictures from my summer art camps and also my after school art studio program I offered when I taught elementary school

art.

National Art Honor

Society Sponsor (Grades 9-12)

When I taught at the high school level, I was actively involved with the National Art Honor Society.

This was a great way to encourage and promote the visual arts within my school and community.

21

Page 22: Jennifer Love Gironda- Professional Art Educuator

I always stress the importance of community service, both in the classroom and with my extracurricular involvement.

The pictures above are from our participation with the Leukemia Society’s annual ‘Light the Night’ Walk. Both my

NAHS students and my varsity cheerleaders participated when I taught at the high school level.

In addition to working with students during and after school, I spent several summers as a faculty member of ‘Legis School.’ This has been one of the highlights of my summer every year

that I have been involved.

The curriculum is based on The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens and encompasses building tomorrow’s leaders through

classroom activities, community service and teambuilding exercises. Participants are in middle and high school.

Finally, I have many traits that have made me a successful art educator. I am enthusiastic in all that I

do, and I have an energy level that is seldom matched.

I am pro-active- I am always problem solving and trying to improve myself as an educator and as a

person. I have a commitment to my students as well as my own learning and I also actively seek collaboration

with other teachers and departments.

I am very confident in my technological skills including my ability to teach art concepts in an on-line

format and to maintain digital correspondence with students and their parents.
