    The novella is often placed as a mystery novel. But is the portrayalof Self Conflict and Duality.

    Inspiration from Deacon Brodie.

    Duality is present in almost all characters and other aspects.

    Makes the reader think of the concept the author puts forwardusing the novella that Man is not truly one but truly two.

    The fog and weather throughout the book is also symbolicof the struggle between good and evil characters.

    The fog would be quite broken up, and a haggard shaft ofdaylight would glance in between the swirling wreaths.[ch.4 pg21]
