CPhA Awards Committee 4030 Lennane Drive Sacramento, CA 95834

Dear Members of the CPhA Awards Committee:

This letter is in support of Dr. Jeffrey Wong and his nomination for the Bowl of Hygeia Award. Dr. Wong has been an advocate and role model for pharmacists and student pharmacists since beginning his own studies at the University of the Pacific. His dedication to pharmacy and to community service have been extraordinary. Dr. Wong has selflessly served as a leader, mentor and educator in numerous ways, and it is this unwavering devotion to our profession that distinguishes him and makes this recognition truly deserving.

Dr. Wong is a recognized leader among colleagues, peers and student pharmacists. He began his involvement with CPhA by serving as the CPhA Representative for the University of the Pacific APhA-ASP membership. Over the years, he has been elected to office on numerous occasions and has been appointed to a multitude of committees based on his leadership and vision, including CPhA Board of Trustees, San Mateo County Pharmacists Association (SMCPhA) Board of Directors, the Pharmacist Society of San Francisco (PS SF) Board of Directors and CPhA's Committee to Restructure 2000. Specifically, he has served as the president of PSSF since 2014 and has led most of their efforts in legislative activities since 1997. Dr. Wong's dedication and involvement in pharmacy advocacy as well as pharmacy legislation have continued to grow and foster new generations of pharmacy activists.

Dr. Wong's ability to lead extends into his professional career as well. As a Walgreens pharmacist since 1997, Dr. Wong has been recognized as an emerging leader for his district and has been designated as a Walgreens trainer for travel consultation, health testing, MTM and vaccinations. His passion for advancing the role of pharmacists and his enthusiasm to help others do the same have propelled him as a leader among his peers at Walgreens. Dr. Wong has also inspired others as a preceptor to student pharmacists. Over the years, he has precepted student pharmacists from the University of the Pacific, Touro University and UCSF. His ability to connect and motivate students is one of his greatest strengths, and it is exemplified in the vast number of student pharmacists who have learned how to counsel patients and provide vaccinations from Dr. Wong. Further, he continues to be the driving force for PSSF in providing students with opportunities for professional learning, interacting with pharmacists, and getting involved with community work. When a preceptor is needed for a health fair or free clinic, student pharmacists know they can count on Dr. Wong to provide instruction and guidance at the event and recruit other pharmacists to do the same. In many ways, Dr. Wong serves as a role model for those in his community, and he exemplifies what a compassionate, caring pharmacist ought to be.

Lastly, Dr. Wong's lifelong dedication to community service must be mentioned. I have had the honor of knowing Dr. Wong since our student days at UOP. Dr. Wong is one of those rare individuals who does not see obstacles, only opportunities. He

maintains a constant aura of optimism, even during personal struggles, and he never wavers in contributing to the community around him. The number of volunteer hours he has logged in performing brown bag events, health fairs, lectures to seniors, conducting clinics with students or simply making himself available to assist in a project for local pharmacy organizations is insurmountable. I have always commented to Dr. Wong that the world would be far better off if we could bottle his energy and passion and have everyone take a dose of "Jeff." This would truly be a good thing. We should all aspire to achieve his generosity of spirit and capacity for compassion.

I cannot think of any other individual who deserves this recognition more than Dr. Jeffrey Wong. He has served our profession dutifully and exceptionally, and I fully support his nomination for the Bowl of Hygeia Award. Thank you for your time and consideration.

To the Trustees of CPhA,

When I was asked to write a letter of recommendation for Dr. Jeff Wong to be the recipient of the Bowl

of Hygeia Award, I happily accepted. I can think of no one more qualified and deserving than Jeff. I have

known Jeff as a fellow pharmacist at Walgreens and as a board member for San Mateo County

Pharmacists Association (currently renamed Peninsula Pharmacists Association) and the local chapter of

San Francisco County, Pharmacist Society of San Francisco. Over the years, when a task needed to be

performed Jeff would be invariably called on. I was Chairman of our local’s annual Talk With a

Pharmacist Day on several occasions and asked Dr. Wong to be in charge of the Diabetes Section which

included procuring supplies for glucose screening and overseeing the administering by UCSF students. It

was such a pleasure to know with confidence that the Diabetes Section would run smoothly. Jeff has

been doing this task annually for several years. He also helped Walgreen pharmacists become certified

for immunization delivery. Jeff ultimately became involved with the Pharmacists Society of San Francisco

and eventually assumed the daunting task as President of bringing it back to the active organization it

once was with a larger, stronger membership. This job is still a work in progress and I have no doubt

that with Jeff at the helm the goal will be reached. There is no doubt that Jeff has satisfied the criteria

for the award, and I am extremely pleased to submit this letter of recommendation for Dr. Jeff Wong for

the Bowl of Hygeia Award.

Respectfully,

Drew Donovan, Pharm D.

Advisor, Peninsula Pharmacists Association
