JMP Booster Pack Je me présente Jeu d’évasion ! Looking for a free way to create a super-engaging, high-yield classroom escape room? To encourage communication, collaboration and critical thinking? Try this JMP Escape Room (Breakout) Game! Prepared by : Maddalena Shipton Description During Breakout games, students work together to find and solve clues around the classroom in order to open a variety of locks. Watch in awe as your students practice a range of 21 st century skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, troubleshooting and working collaboratively while having so much fun they won't even realize how much they are learning! Breakout games can be played with a tangible lockbox and locks or by applying a digital format using an online form containing fill-in-the-blank locks. Though teachers can adapt the level of difficulty by providing hints, Breakouts should not be easy! Perseverance, grit and resilience are just a few of the valuable character traits developed during a challenging game. Breakout games almost always start with a background storyline. The story generally introduces characters and a problem to solve within a defined time limit. You may consider having students work in multi-level groups during play, keeping in mind student prior knowledge and those who tend to persevere and/or think “outside of the box” coupled with those who have other skill sets. While some games are linear, meaning you must find clues and solves puzzles in order, this game is non-linear. This was done intentionally to keep a larger class size (high number of students) engaged and motivated to play. Once students have read or been read aloud the story, they are ready to play! You may wish to allow BYOD (Bring your own device) or provide access to a few iPads with QR code scanners and laptops. Students usually also love using black light flashlights. As such, we have added a few clue ideas below that can be written either with regular pen or black light pen. If you are using a lockbox, you may consider a smaller secondary box in this game or have all locks on one hasp lock. If keeping the game digital (no tangible locks), you may wish to project the Google Form http://bit.ly/QuiEst-ce for whole-class play or allow one laptop per group in order to render the game more competitive! This game in not exactly linear which makes it more fun and adaptable to playing with a larger group. Could be

modified to increase difficulty, however was designed for elementary students, with developing French as a Second Language skills. If new to Breakout games, you may wish to present clues in plain view, posted around the classroom.

Provide students with the DJDELF Profil Personnel cards on which to collect clues about the Mystery Student.

Optional: other activity images (swimming, piano, bowling) with fake numbers for 3-digit lock as decoys

Use flashlight to see 119 on Soccer ball image ( 3-digit lock).

Find Birthday cake and date of birth as well as 2009 (4-digit number lock). Locate USB and open Google My Maps. Follow directions and find Mystery Student address. Directions will open directional lock. http://bit.ly/JMPIndice8

Find Birthday candles and notice shortened Google link: http://bit.ly/JMPIndice7A This leads to JMP Breakout Indice nom doc which provides the Mystery Student’s name J-O-S-H but missing final letter.

Notice Email Address, note on Profil Personnel and prompt to find a book (in which a key is hidden if using tangible locks or Fish image with QR code)

Fish QR code leads to JMP Breakout Indice suite http://bit.ly/JMPIndice6 which hints to a number-letter association. A= 1, B= 2, C= 3. . .
