The writer: Mary Shelley

Mary Shelley was born in London and was the daughter of the philosopher William Godwin and of Mary Wollstonecraft, died 10 days after her daughter’s birth.

She fell in love with the poet Percy Shelley and they travelled around ( giusta?) Europe visiting France, Germany, Switzerland. During one of their travels Mary thought about writing a book. Her first book is called “Frankenstein”, then she wrote other five books.

How did the story start?

When Mary and Percy where in Geneva with their friend Lord Byron they were reading ghost stories and Byron advised Mary to write a ghost story. Mary wanted to write a story about the creation of a man without being God but using a divine energy. It was a terrible thing to do and that’s why the book is also called “Modern Prometheus”: the TITANO that fired humans.

The storyThe novel is about Dr Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist who wanted to create a human using inanimate matter. Therefore he put together organs from dead men’s bodies. But when the monster was created, Frankenstein was frightened by his own creature and so it ran away.

The monster had a very bad-looking and so it didn’t recive love from anyone and that’s why it became embittered. It asked Frankenstein to create a woman in the same way of it but Frankenstein refused and so the creature started killing the people the scientist loved. At first it killed Frankenstein’s little brother, then his best friend and at the end it killed his bride.

After that the creature disappeared and Frankenstein wanted to kill it. So he went to the North Pole where the creature was but he died before having killed it.Fortunately, before he died, he told the story to Dr. Walton who saved him from the frozen ice.

In the video we can see the moment in which the creature kills Frankenstain’s little brother, his best friend and his wife during their wedding-day.The scientist is very worried about the creature and nobody is able to stop it.

Robert Walton lifeRobert Walton is an english guy without father. He has been brought up by his dear sister Margaret and by his uncle Thomas. He always has been interested in nature, in particular he wanted to discover an unknown land: the North Pole. That’s why he decided to bought a ship and some sailors, to begin a travel in the frozen ice of this never tread land. There he met Dr Victor Frankenstein and saved him that wasn’t well at all. He told to the english man his fearful story. Then the scientist died and Robert Walton met the creature who wanted to die with is “father”.

The lettersThe Mary Shelley’s book stars with four letters and it ends with NUMERO letters.

Walton loves so much her sister and so he wants to calm down her that was worried about this dangerous travel of Robert.So that’s how the the adventurous man stars his first letter:“You will rejoice to hear that no disaster has accompanied the commencement of an enterprise which you have regarded with such evil forebodings. I arrived here yesterday, and my first task is to assure my dear sister of my welfare and increasing confidence in the success of my undertaking.”

In general in his letters, Walton tell her sister what happen during hisvoyage.
