DescriptionANSULITE AFC3B 3% AFFF (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam) Concentrate combines fluoro- and hydrocarbon-surfactant technologies to provide superior fire and vapor suppression for Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires. This synthetic foam concentrate is intended for firefighting applications at 3% solution in fresh, salt, or hard water.ANSULITE AFC3B foam solution utilizes three suppression mechanisms intended for rapid fire knockdown and superior burnback resistance:n The foam blanket blocks oxygen supply to the fuel.
n Liquid drains from the foam blanket and forms an aqueous film that suppresses fuel vapor and seals the fuel surface.
n The water content of the foam solution produces a cooling effect for additional fire suppression.

Foaming PropertiesANSULITE AFC3B 3% AFFF Concentrate may be effectively applied using most conventional foam discharge equipment at 3% dilution with fresh, salt, or hard water. For optimum performance, water hardness should not exceed 500 ppm expressed as calcium and magnesium.
ANSULITE AFC3B Concentrate requires low energy to foam and the foam solution may be applied with aspirating and non-aspirating discharge devices. Aspirating discharge devices typically produce expansion ratios from 3.5:1 to 10:1 depending on the type of device and the flow rate. Non-aspirating devices, such as handline water fog/stream nozzles or standard sprinkler heads, typically produce expansion ratios from 2:1 to 4:1. Medium-expansion discharge devices typically produce expansion ratios from 20:1 to 60:1.
TYPICAL FOAM CHARACTERISTICS ** (Fresh and Salt Water)
Proportioning Rate 3%
Expansion Ratio ≥ 7
25% Drain Time (min:sec) ≥ 2:30
50% Drain Time (min:sec) ≥ 4:30** per EN 1568-3, 2008 protocol
ProportioningThe recommended operational temperature range for ANSULITE AFC3B 3% AFFF Concentrate is 35 °F to 120 °F (2 °C to 49 °C). This foam concentrate can be correctly proportioned using most conventional, properly calibrated, in-line proportioning equipment such as:n Balanced and in-line balanced pressure pump proportioners
n Balanced pressure bladder tanks and ratio flow controllers
n Around-the-pump type proportioners
n Fixed or portable in-line venturi type proportioners
n Handline nozzles with fixed eductor/pick-up tubes
For immediate use: The concentrate may also be diluted with fresh or salt water to a 3% pre-mix solution.
For delayed use: Consult Technical Services for guidance regarding the suitability of a stored, pre-mix solution (fresh water only).
Storage and HandlingANSULITE AFC3B 3% AFFF Concentrate should be stored in the original supplied package (HDPE totes, drums, or pails) or in the recommended foam system equipment as outlined in Tyco Fire Protection Products Technical Bulletin “Storage of Foam Concentrates”. The product should be maintained within the recommended temperature range. If the concentrate freezes during transport or storage, full product serviceability can be restored upon thaw with gentle re-mixing.
Factors affecting the foam concentrate’s long-term effectiveness include temperature exposure and cycling, storage container characteristics, air exposure, evaporation, dilution, and contamination. The effective life of ANSULITE AFC3B Concentrate can be maximized through optimal storage conditions and proper handling. ANSUL® foam concentrates have demonstrated effective firefighting performance with contents stored in the original package under proper conditions for more than 10 years.
Mixing ANSULITE AFC3B Concentrate with other foam concentrates for long-term storage is not recommended. Use in conjunction with comparable 3% AFFF products for immediate incident response is appropriate.
Material of Construction CompatibilityTo help avoid corrosion, galvanized pipe and fittings should never be used in contact with undiluted ANSULITE AFC3B 3% AFFF Concentrate. Refer to Tyco Fire Protection Products Technical Bulletin “Acceptable Materials of Construction” for recommendations and guidance regarding compatibility of foam concentrates with common materials of construction in the firefighting foam industry.
InspectionANSULITE AFC3B 3% AFFF Concentrate should be inspected periodically in accordance with NFPA 11, EN 13565-2, or other relevant standard. A representative concentrate sample should be sent to Tyco Fire Protection Products Foam Analytical Services or other qualified laboratory for quality analysis per the applicable standard. An annual inspection and sample analysis is typically sufficient, unless the product has been exposed to unusual conditions.

DescriptionANSULITE ARC (Alcohol-Resistant Concentrate) 3% or 6% AR-AFFF (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam) Concentrate is formu-lated from special fluorochemical and hydrocarbon surfactants, a high molecular weight polymer, and solvents. It is transported and stored as a concentrate to provide ease of use and consider-able savings in weight and volume.
It is intended for use as a 3% or 6% proportioned solution (depending on the type of fuel) in fresh, salt or hard water. It may also be used and stored as a premixed solution in fresh or potable water for use with the ANSUL® Model AR-33-D wheeled fire extinguisher.
Three fire suppressing mechanisms are in effect when using ANSULITE ARC 3% or 6% AR-AFFF foam solution on either a conventional Class B hydrocarbon fuel such as gasoline, diesel fuel, etc.; or a Class B polar solvent (water miscible fuel) such as methyl alcohol, acetone, etc.
1. An aqueous film is formed in the case of a conventional hydrocarbon fuel, or a polymeric membrane in the case of a polar solvent fuel. This film or membrane forms a barrier to help prevent the release of fuel vapor.
2. Regardless of the fuel type, a foam blanket is formed which excludes oxygen. The liquids that form the film or the poly-meric membrane are drained from the foam blanket.
3. The water content of the foam produces a cooling effect.

ANSULITE ARC 3% or 6% AFFF Concentrate is a non-Newtonian fluid that is both pseudoplastic and thixotropic. Because of these properties, dynamic viscosity will decrease as shear increases.
ApplicationANSULITE ARC 3% or 6% AR-AFFF Concentrate is unique among AFFF agents in that it can be used on either conventional Class B fuels or polar solvent type Class B fuels. Its excellent wetting characteristics make it useful in combating Class A Fires as well.
Because of the low energy to make foam, it can be used with both aspirating and non-aspirating discharge devices.
009256
To provide even greater fire protection capability, it can be used with dry chemical suppressing agents without regard to the order of application. Due to the velocity of the dry chemical discharge, care must be taken not to submerge the polymeric membrane below the fuel surface.
Fire PerformanceThe fire performance of ANSULITE ARC 3% or 6% AR-AFFF Concentrate is measured primarily against Underwriters Laboratories Standard 162.
Foaming PropertiesWhen used with fresh, salt or hard water, at the correct dilution with most conventional foam making equipment, the expansion ratio will vary depending on the performance characteristics of the equipment. Aspirating discharge devices produce expansion ratios from 5:1 to 10:1 depending primarily on type of aspirating device and flow rate. Non-aspirating devices such as handline water fog/stream nozzles or standard sprinkler heads give expan-sion ratios of 2:1 to 4:1.
ProportioningANSULITE ARC 3% or 6% AR-AFFF Concentrate can be easily proportioned (at the correct dilution) using most conventional proportioning equipment such as:
1. Balanced pressure and in-line balanced pressure pumped proportioning equipment
2. Balanced pressure bladder tank proportioners
3. Around-the-pump proportioners
4. Fixed or portable (in-line) venturi type proportioners
5. Handline nozzles with fixed induction/pickup tubes
The usable tem perature range for ANSULITE ARC 3% or 6% AR-AFFF Concentrate with this equipment is 35 °F to 120 °F (2 °C to 49 °C) respectively.

Storage/Shelf LifeWhen stored in the packaging supplied (polyethylene drums or pails) or in equipment recommended by the manufacturer as part of the foam system and within the temperature limits specified, the shelf life of ANSULITE ARC 3% or 6% AR-AFFF Concentrate is about 20-25 years.
The factors affecting shelf life and stability for ANSULITE AFFF concentrates are discussed in detail in ANSUL Technical Bulletin No. 54. Freezing of the product should be avoided. If, however, the product is frozen during storage or transportation, it must be thawed and inspected for signs of separation. If separation has occurred, the product must be mechanically mixed until homogeneous.
When the concentrate is to be stored in an atmospheric storage tank, a 1/4 in. (6 mm) layer of mineral oil should be added to seal the concentrate and minimize the effects of evaporation.
CompatibilitySince the concentrate is a unique blend of surfactants, high molecular weight polymers, and solvents; it is recommended that ANSULITE ARC 3% or 6% AR-AFFF should not be mixed with any other foam concentrates. Consult Technical Services with any questions of compatibility.
Materials of Construction CompatibilityTests have been performed with ANSULITE ARC Concentrate verifying its compatibility with standard carbon steel ‘‘black’’ pipe and pipe manufactured from various stainless steel or brass compounds. Alternative pipe, fittings, and valves may be used in some cases if acceptable to the customer and/or the author-ity having jurisdiction. Refer to ANSUL Technical Bulletin No. 59, addressing acceptable materials of construction for use with ANSUL foam concentrates.
Galvanized pipe and fittings must not be used in areas where undiluted concentrate will contact them since corrosion will result.
Please first consult Tyco Fire Protection Products for specific guidelines concerning materials of construction.
InspectionAs with any fire suppressing agent, ANSULITE ARC 3% or 6% AR-AFFF Concentrate, whether in the concentrate or pre-mixed form, should be inspected periodically per requirements of NFPA 11 “Standard for Low-, Medium-, and High-Expansion Foam.” Annually submit samples to the manufacturer or a qualified labo-ratory for quality condition testing. Refer to the Field Inspection Manual (Part No. 31274) for detailed inspection procedures. An annual inspection is recommended unless unusual conditions of exposure occur such as described in ANSUL Technical Bulletin No. 54. In such cases, contact Tyco Fire Protection Products for more information.

Hand Hose Line Stationary Dry Chemical System
Featuresn Fast knockdown of fires
n Sizes to match various hazards
n Unique fluidization techniques
n Extensive full-scale testing
n Proven reputation
ApplicationThe ANSUL® Hand Hose Line Stationary Dry Chemical System is manufactured to provide manual fire fighting protection for hazardous areas such as offshore platforms, loading racks, fuel storage areas, and heavy manufacturing operations.
DescriptionANSUL Hose Line Stationary Dry Chemical Systems combine the flexibility of a hand portable fire extinguisher with the larger fire-killing power necessary to combat large Class B (flammable liquids and gases) and Class C (electrical) fires. The ANSUL system is designed for operation by only one trained person, and is ideally suited for protection of extra hazardous areas where large fires must be extinguished before they have the chance to spread or increase in size. The ANSUL system offers the quick response, large extinguishing agent capacity, longer discharge time, and increased flow rates necessary to combat these large fires. In short, they protect areas which hand porta-ble and wheeled fire extinguishers cannot.
These extinguishers are available with three types of ANSUL dry chemical extinguishing agents, giving them the versatility to protect many types of fire hazards. Standard units are manu-factured with a skid base; special units are available for truck mounting.
General SpecificationsDRY CHEMICAL CONTAINERThe dry chemical tank shall be of welded steel construction, with two elliptical dished heads with a welded circumferential seam. The actual capacity of the dry chemical container shall be as shown in the chart. (Specifying engineer to specify size. See chart.)
The dry chemical tank shall be designed and constructed according to the latest ASME unfired pressure vessel code for a working pressure of 250 psi (17 bar). It shall be stamped with the appropriate ASME code symbol.

ApplicationSENTRY dry chemical extinguishers are designed for protec-tion of light and ordinary hazards. These compact and portable extinguishers are designed for commercial/compliance fire protection needs. All extinguishers are designed to fit most wall mounted storage cabinets. Typical applications include light manufacturing, warehousing, restaurants, office buildings, shop areas, auto repair shops, paint process areas, apartment build-ings, parking garages, aircraft servicing areas, material handling vehicles, and many others.
Description 1. SENTRY shells are produced by a cold deep draw process
which yields a seamless steel cylinder with a high tensile strength.
2. Unique pre-treatment of the raw low carbon steel not only consists of a cleaning process, but also applies a special lubricant which helps keep the interior and exterior shell surfaces scratch free.
3. The collar and specially pre-formed bottom enclosure are MIG welded to produce a smooth, high integrity weld.
008403
4. Extinguisher shells are 100% factory air tested in excess of 600 psi (41.4 bar), 375 psi (26 bar) for 2 1/2 lb units.
5. The powder paint process is superior to conventional liquid based paint systems in its ability to resist blistering, crack-ing, fading, chipping, and corrosion.
6. Before the extinguisher shells are painted, they are surface treated with a blasting or phosphate bonding process. This enhances the paint adhesion and corrosion resistance.
7. The specially formulated powder paint is electrostatically applied and oven cured to help ensure complete coverage and uniform paint thickness.
8. Easy grip extinguisher handles are designed for maximum portability, allowing operators to fight the fire without removing work gloves.
9. SENTRY extinguisher valve bodies are made from a durable extruded aluminum alloy.
10. Completed valve assemblies feature plated steel valve stems which contain o-ring and seat material compatible with the agent to provide reliable performance and long life.
11. Rugged all-steel pick-up tubes help provide proper and dependable agent flow through the valve body.
12. SENTRY extinguishers have large, color-coded pressure gauges which provide a quick visual indication of unit readiness.
13. Large 1 1/4 in. (32 mm) dia. coated steel ring pins are utilized and held in place by a visual inspection seal to help prevent accidental discharges. Note: Smaller ring pins for 2 1/2 lb units are stainless steel.
14. One piece, multilingual, color-coded mylar label with easy-to-read pictograms provides the user with step-by-step operating instructions and the hazard classes for which the extinguisher was designed. Label also contains useful recharge, maintenance, inspection, operating temperature, HMIS and model information.

Paired designs allow balanced signal transmission which results in lower crosstalk through common mode rejec-tion. Due to the improved noise immunity of twisted pairs, they generally permit higher data speeds than traditional multi-conductor cables.
Belden Multi-conductor and Paired products deliver low voltage analog data signals within enclosures, from controllers and I/Os to devices such as temperature and pressure sensors, relays, valves, meters, thermocouples, solenoids, actuators, contacts, push buttons, and alarms. They also are applicable for computers, communications, instrumentation, sound, control, audio, data transmission, and many more applications.

In any cable installation the conductor, insulation, jacket, and shielding are all important attributes that must be carefully selected when determining the proper cable construction. These physical attributes can determine the UL listing, temperature rating, voltage rating, signal attenuation, cable impedance, and cable capacitance – some or all of which may be of importance to your installation. Belden’s broad Classics Cable offering will frequently feature the specific construction that you are looking for as a standard product.
Conductor Selection
The type of conductor selected is very important for the integrity of the cable. For example, if it is a fixed installation, solid conductors may be used. However, any system that requires motion (i.e., flexing of the cable) should be installed with a cable that has stranded conductors.
The size of the conductor is also an important consideration. Its selection should be based primarily on the amount of current that will need to flow through it, the equipment being used, the temperature of the area where the installation is located, and the number of conductors required. Additionally, the size of the conductor will rely on the amount of signal attenuation that the system can tolerate. This will only be a factor for applications that require long runs of cable (e.g., CCTV applica-tions). The table below outlines the ideal strand counts for different conductor AWG sizes for various applications.
Applications and Selection Criteria for Belden Classics
Ideal Strand Counts For Different Conductor Sizes
Note: For a given AWG wire size (based on equal cross-sectional area of conductor), limpness and flex life are increased by use of a large number of fine strands.
* Rope lay is several stranded groups cabled together. For example: 12 AWG, 259x36 is 7 cords each consisting of 37 strands of 36 AWG.

Insulation and Jacket Selection
The insulation and jacket should be chosen largely based on the temperature and
environment in which the system is present, just like the applications discussed previously. The tables below identify which compounds are suitable (or not suitable) for a wide
array of different environmental conditions, which can be present in various vertical markets.

Shield Selection
The selection of shielding is also critical to the application for which the cable will be installed. While unshielded cables should be satisfactory for most alarm circuits, DC control lines, and low impedance lines, shielding is normally required for closed-circuit television (CCTV), microphone lines, and other high-impedance, low-level signals. For installations where noise or other electrical interference could be problematic, shielding should be used to prevent external signals from entering the cable, and vice versa. The table at right illustrates different types of shields and their features and benefits.
Cable Impedance
While most installations may not have require-ments for the capacitance or impedance of the cable, it could potentially become a factor with CCTV or data transmission systems. If the impedance of the cable is not matched to the impedance of the system (e.g. CCTV monitor), then there could be a degradation of the performance of the system. Moreover, these systems (like most data transmission systems) may require cables with low capacitance in order to function properly.

Unique Story
Several years ago, Belden’s engineering team dem-onstrated that despite the short transmission distance that typically hampers the use of RS-232 transmission, our cables could help the customer reach even greater distances. The study looked at some of our more popular designs, and even with the limitation of transmitting data over a network at full utilization that experiences crosstalk, the cables still functioned at remarkable distances – some at an order of magnitude higher than the norm.
Customary transmission distance ~ 65 feet. Belden cables exceed this distance by a healthy margin, even at full utilization with crosstalk:
• 9948 Series → at least 400 feet• 9543 Series → at least 400 feet• 9836 Series → at least 658 feet• 9937 Series → at least 824 feet• 8112 Series → at least 833 feet
Transmission distance is one of the greatest limitations of RS-232 serial data transmission – and Belden cables help overcome it!
* Special techniques can provide excellent fatigue life for use in high flex applications.
