  • Bridge the Gap … With ABCBridge the Gap … With ABCBridge the Gap … With ABCOne day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with

his express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On the return of the trip the father asked his son, “How was the trip?”The son replied, “It was great Dad”.“Did you see how poor people live?” asked the father.“Oh, yes”, said the son.“So, tell me what you learned from the trip?” the father asked. The son replied, “I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that

reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a stream that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at the night. Our terrace reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

We have a small piece of land to live and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they

grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us; they have friends to protect them.”The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, “Thanks Dad for showing me

    how poor we are”.

Dear friends, this story tells the difference between the rich and poor. This is the time for all of us to bridge the gap with humanity. Our JCI Creed reads, “We believe that the earth's great treasure lies in human personality. True treasure lies in the hearts of the hearts of humans. There is about a vast field of opportunity for cultivation of the human personality. I would like to share the ABC (the basics) of life, to bridge the gap.

We the members of this great organization JCI can bridge the gap between the differences with our humanity. It's not the quantity, but the quality of living, the achievement we make in terms of human progress.

We are reminded that, in the fleeting time we have on this Earth, what matters is not wealth, or status, or power, or fame, but rather how well we have loved and what small part we have played in making the lives of other people better. - Barack Obama

The Coronavirus(COVID-19) pandemic sweeps across the world, it is causing widespread concern, fear and stress, all of which are natural reactions to the changing WORLD.Ofcourse LOCKDOWN period is the time we never imagined to happen in our lives things get totally changed. Although there were many Lockdown challenges but still it has a positive sight that relationships becomes stronger and we discovered many things new in ourselves. But now we came to know the luxury life we were living became a iction the only thing we persist with is our view towards our HEALTH. The entire WORLD is thinking how we can protectourselves and ight with this INVISIBLE FEAR we are facing today.

    Let'shaveaglanceoftheCOVID-19period-

Prevalence of infectious diseases has increased globally as humans have spread across the world. Outbreaks have been occurring frequently, but every outbreak does not reach a global pandemic level as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has. Pandemics are large-scale outbreaks of infectious disease with high burden of morbidity and mortality over a wide geographic area and cause significant economic, social, and political disruption. Globalization, with increased global integration and travel, urbanization, and greater exploitation of the natural environment, has led to pandemics spreading quickly, with COVID-19 being deadliest of all witnessed in our lifetimes thus far.

COVID-19 is caused by a novel coronavirus—a new strain that was not previously found in humans. Symptoms include respiratory problems, fever and cough, and can lead to pneumonia and death. Like SARS, it spreads through droplets from sneezes and by direct or indirect contact with an infected person. It is believed that the first case for this virus was reported in China on November 17, 2019, in the Hubei Province, and it went unrecognised. In the next three months, the virus kept spreading – by direct and indirect contact to many people in Hubei. As we live in a global village, international travel is believed to have taken the infection around the globe. It reached such a scale that by March 2020, WHO recognized that this virus infection has reached a pandemic proportion.

And you know the horrible fact till now there have been of COVID-19, 5,206,614 confirmed casesincluding reported to WHO.337,736 deaths,

  • A world with social distancing as the new and needed normal- Here is what your life will look like ll the me Coronavirus vaccine is foundExperts say social distancing is the only way to contain coronavirus. As everyone is bracing for a lot of relief and relaxaons throughout the world, it is important to paint a picture- a picture of the mes that are about to come, a picture very different from the mes we are so used to living.

Social distancing, needless to say, will be the new normal aer restricon are eased, and people resume their day to day acvies

With the easing of relaxaons,we are bound to see radical changes in the society as well as the work front. Bench strength, of execuve employees at corporates, or even the normal employees not contribung much, are most likely to be let go by their superiors. This, because unnecessary staff increases the risk of infecon among even the necessary people in the work front. People doing nothing construcve, merely warming their seats are likely to be shunned out of their work. As society, the idea of aimlessly loiteringaround public places will be discouraged. People will hardly get out of their homes, except for buying essenals. There would hardly be any crowd at malls, theatres, concerts and different recreaonal acvies. Unl and unless mass vaccinaon of COVID-19 is administered to sociees, which is premised upon the idea that a vaccine will ever be successfully developed. But there might be a twist also- there might be some who would take a totally different turn and would gather in bunches and loiter around, making things worse.

The fear of contracng the virus will prevent people from taking the disease lightly, which will go a long way in helping us taking necessary precauons along the way.

We are looking at the transformaon of the society, and the end of unnecessary social gatherings and crowding. We are looking forward to a society which is precauonary than ever. The most awaited breakthrough is expected when a vaccine will be developed. Only aer mass administraon of the vaccine we will part our ways to our usual ways. However, considering the virus, we might not be completely successful on that front as well. If the virus mutates to another form, the vaccine for its present will be useless. Such is a me of uncertainty we are living in. However, one thing is clear. We must learn to live with the virus, sooner or later.

  • COVID-19-PHYSICALNOTEMOTIONALDISTANCING

The term social distancing is misleading because in mes like these we need to stay emoonally and socially connected by keeping physically distance.Till a few months ago almost nobody in the world knew what social distancing meant. But since the spread of covid-19, the term 'social distancing' has gone popular. It implies steps that need to be taken to prevent the spread of corona virus by maintaining a physical distance between people and reducing the number of mes people come in close contact with each other. It involves keeping a distance of six feet from others and avoiding gathering in large areas. But the term 'social distancing' means to avoid being social. That's unnatural for most humans. Humans are social and emoonal beings. We survive and thrive by being social. In India, house-helps are like extended family. But now because of covid-19 we suddenly need to follow social distancing from people who are always there for us precisely in mes like these. It goes against human nature. That makes using the term 'social distancing' inappropriate.Connect emoonallyOn one hand, we experience moments of naonal unity that bring us together such as the PM's request to honor the medicos with claps. On the other, we connue to remain divided across the faulness of communies and class. One lesson this pandemic seems to be driving home is that while we are socially distant, we are all connected emoonally by our collecve vulnerability. The virus has in many ways, been an equalizer. This is a global experience that each of us, regardless of race, class, culture, age or gender, are facing together.

Signs could indicate that you're feeling emoonally distant:⮚ Feelings of numbness, disbelief, anxiety or fear⮚ Changes in appete, energy, and acvity levels⮚ Difficulty concentrang⮚ Difficulty sleeping or nightmares and upseng thoughts and/or images⮚ Physical reacons, such as headaches, body pains, stomach , and skin rashes⮚ Worsening of chronic health problems⮚ Anger or short-temper⮚ Increased use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs

Persons with mental illness may face newer challenges:Life for those suffering from mental health problems has indeed become tougher. They would also have the same fears and stress as others which may worsen their previous mental health condion. Social isolaon may make them more withdrawn, moody and irritable They may not seek/ get easy access to medicines and counseling.

RESEARCHWorkersThe COVID-19 crisis and the ongoing lockdown has le employees feeling anxious and worried about their future, the looming threat of pay cuts and job losses are only adding to the pressure ,prompng many corporates to look for ways to keep the staff movated. This is a me of responsibility from both employers and employees. Corporates must show more empathy towards their staff, being transparent with business condions and helping set clear expectaons will help ease out stress.

A glimmer of hope “I think while the core idea will always be to feed as many people as we can, what I've realised its done for me, is its kept me posive, its kept me driven because now there's a goal. I think we're all goal-driven to some extent. It makes me get up in the morning and say 'Listen I have all this to do today and I need to move really fast because otherwise someone's going to go hungry.'”

Emoonal reacons to coming out of physical distancing may include :Mixed emoons, including relief aer distancing, Fear and worry about our own health and the health of our loved ones, Stress from the experience of monitoring ourself or being monitored by others for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, Sadness, anger, or frustraon because friends or loved ones have unfounded fears of contracng the disease from contact with us, even though we have been determined not to be contagious, Guilt about not being able to perform normal work or parenng dues during distancing..

Ways to cope with stress :I have no me (Smile). So strangely enough everybody says that 'There's so much me, what do I do?' Even I used to walk or step out for coffee and travelling to keep my spirits up; now all that's stopped. My constant refrain is I have no me to get bored, I have no me to be anxious. So I think keeping ourself busy is extremely important. And I think staying connected with people, using humor as a response, we know, learning to laugh over things that we cannot control. Staying connected with friends and family members, spending a lile me in the evening, we know, cooking, baking something that we wouldn't normally do, watching the movie, which we all do as a family, I think these are hugely relieving things. What I do is:

⮚ Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media.⮚ Take care of my body.⮚ Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate.⮚ Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals.⮚ Exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep.⮚ Avoid alcohol and drugs.⮚ Make me to unwind. Try to do some other acvies I enjoy like painng, gardening and wring.⮚ Connect with others. Talk with people I trust about my concerns and how I am feeling.⮚ I leave the tension of future.⮚ Enjoying whatever le in my life right now.

Help and support is vital for persons with mental illness from their families and other care givers. Health helplines can provide support, in addion to regular taking of prescribed medicaon, a regular daily roune, keeping engaged and posive. The psychological effect of quaranne can sll be detected months or years later. So, how well we manage to stay emoonally connected will determine how healthy we emerge from this crisis.Remember, good mental status in the difficult mes may win you the bale more easily!

    Lessonsfromlockdown:-Lessonsfromlockdown:-

Conined to our homes, we humans are learning new ways to remain active and focussed. The lockdown in the country due to the global corona virus pandemic has helped so many of us to connect with ourselves, friends and family like never before. The lockdown has taught people to evolve, upgrade and be resilient to change and overcome the challenges. Not everyone is lucky to see another day nor will we get a chance like this to be at home with people we love.We humans have to learn to unlearn and get reintroduced to our true selves so that we can walk out after the lockdown as a new person into a new healthy world with our new experiences and new found challenges. It took just one invisible being, a virus, just a lockdown to make us realise all the truths of life

    Lessonsfromlockdown:-

[1] AcceptingOurselvesInAllOurGloryAndImperfectionsThere's something really inspiring about a person entirely accepting themselves as they are in all their glory and imperfection. While we live in a changing world illed with new concepts, fresh ideas, and seemingly daily embraces for new kinds of people, we rarely feel free. We rarely feel accepted. We rarely feel able to unconditionally love ourselves. There's always a new product or procedure thrown in our faces to 'ix' us. Despite this social and mental battleground, women everywhere are ditching hair dye in order to embrace their natural gray hair. It's one of the coolest power moves we've seen in a long time!Men are realizing there is more to household chores than just carrying the groceries.Yes, the men have 'stepped up' during the lockdown and helped with household chores like cooking, cleaning, washing dishes, and generally, looking after the house they call home.

[2] The Lockdown Has Taught Us That We Cannot Take Anything ForGrantedThe most important fact that we all have come to realise is that we cannot take anything for granted now. Lockdown has taught us so. The early morning walks, playing with our pets, lowers in our garden, chirping of the birds, gardening, reading, just sitting quietly or chatting with our family, meeting friends, nothing is trivial. These are important tasks that keep us grounded.

We now value Quality time, Apart from relecting upon our busy jobs or business enterprise, we are now taking out time to read a book that we probably wanted to read for a long time, we are taking out time rather enjoying teaching, playing with our children, or trying out long lost recipes for our loved ones, or calling our parents on daily basis. Though these may seem like small things, but we often craved to do the same on our busy days or rather ignored the nuances of life by running behind the pseudo-passion that people like us develop amidst competition.

  • [3] TheLockdownHasTaughtUsAnImportantFinancialLessontoBuythingswhenWeneed;notwhenWewant.

This is the irst and most important inancial lesson the lockdown taught us to buy things only when we need and not when we want. It is very essential to understand and realise the difference between 'want' and 'need'. Earlier, We used to buy things just because we wanted them although those didn't have any value or use in our lives. When we are stuck in lockdown, we are buying only the essential stuff and by the end of two months, we all are really surprised to ind how we could survive and did quite well with the things we had in hand. Under normal circumstances, we would have wasted huge amount of money doing mindless shopping without even thinking about it. That amount now rested securely in our bank accounts.

Emergency fund is now must for resilient inancial plan. All of us will have to be ready with liquidity/ contingency provisions to face such unprecedented times. This is a lesson many people are learning now, the hard way. It makes sense to put aside money for such situations, well ahead of time.

[4] The Lockdown Has Opened New Virtual World for Us - Virtualcommunity,VirtualLearning,VirtualCelebration.

This distancing is bringing people closer together, and it's true. We are celebrating birthdays, anniversaries with our friends, family and neighbors on Zoom. Now, so many companies are offering knowledge for free, and we are overwhelmed by this new found opportunity in Free courses, Free seminars and Trainings and communities all over the place are coming together to support each other and grow together. We are grateful for discovering that there are people that are ready to offer us a helping hand even if they don't know us at all, especially online.

    [5] TheLockdownHasTaughtUsOverwhelmingFeelingOfGratitude

The world outside has never looked so good, the grass has never been greener. The most essential of all, being in a lockdown has made us realize the importance of the freedom we all had. It made us ill with a feeling of gratitude towards God, towards nature, towards our doctors and towards teachers, towards our helpers and so many whom we were taking for granted. One more thing we all must be grateful for during this time is the opportunity to slow down, so to take out some personal time.We have accepted our new way of living, a new holistic approach of appreciating all the positive things that we have found in these testing times.
