Dear Potential Sponsor, On behalf of the entire Jazba team, I would like to thank you for your interest in sponsoring the first annual Jazba dance competition—a Bollywood-Fusion dance competition serving as a catalyst for change. Jazba will be held in March 2015, showcasing the best Bollywood-Fusion dance teams from across the nation to raise awareness for South Asian culture while also combating prevalent social issues in South Asia. “Jazba” meaning passion, stemmed from our passion and desire for change. As young students connected with South Asian culture, we were moved to take a stand against the horrible atrocities faced by impoverished women in South Asia. In order to make an everlasting and direct impact on the lives of these women, we have partnered with the non-profit organization Women In Need. All net proceeds after expenses from Jazba will be donated to Women In Need and be used to enact a HUGE change in the lives of thousands of South Asian women. In order to create such unimaginable relief for these women, we are asking for your generous donation. Our goal is to raise $14,000 for Jazba 2015 and be able to donate our net proceeds after expenses to Women In Need. As a sponsor, you will gain access to a multitude of different media packages to market your company or organization to a large, diverse audience. Enclosed you will find details about the different levels of sponsorship and the marketing benefits associated with each. In addition to the detailed sponsorship levels, we are more than willing to accommodate your specific sponsorship preferences and discuss custom packages as well. We sincerely hope you will join us in spreading South Asian culture and making a difference in the community. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing back from you soon! OUR CORE VALUESDance

A style of art that allows for much creativity and expression, Jazba seeks to provide an enormous stage for dancers to share their art and talent with the world. Specifically interested in supporting Bollywood-Fusion dance, a rapidly-growing style with participants emerging from all across the world, Jazba also offers a chance for the surrounding community to engage in an integral part of South Asian culture.

Passion

Jazba, a Hindi-Urdu word meaning “passion”, is the fundamental pillar of our organization. We always put our best foot forward and are fully dedicated to our work. By adopting such an ideology, Jazba boasts a unique blend of tenacity and love for every endeavor we encounter.

Change

Inspired by the New Delhi Gang Rape of 2012, Jazba is dedicated to rehabilitating the lives of impoverished South Asian women. By not only spreading awareness about prevalent social issues in South Asia but also raising significant funds for the non-profit organization Women In Need (WIN), Jazba strives to drive change in the South Asian women community.

OUR COMMUNI TYWhy Us?

Jazba means passion, but it encompasses much more than that for our team; it represents hope and will. For the majority of our high school careers, we chose to participate in many different types of student groups, camps, and extracurricular activities so that we had something to list on a resume or to write about in a college application. With Jazba, our priorities have shifted. Each member of the Jazba team has a personal connection to music, dance, human rights, or South Asian culture and strives to ignite his/her passion for the advancement of the organization. We are a family, united as Jazba.

Why Here?

Perhaps due in part to the “Minnesota Nice” mentality, Minnesota is no stranger when it comes to helping those in need. According to a recent report by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, Minnesota is home to over 9,000 nonprofit organizations that work towards strengthening the lives of those in the community. Among these include several organizations geared towards South Asian efforts, such as Vibha, Ekal Vidyalaya, and the Durgadutt Family Foundation. Jazba strives to expand such efforts in Minnesota to directly impact the South Asian community.

Why Now?

In an area of the world that has seen the rights of women oppressed for hundreds of years, the time has come for change. Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan has worked towards change through her activism for youth education; Indira Nooyi of PepsiCo, Inc. has worked towards change through her prominent leadership in the corporate world; and Jazba of Minnesota will work towards change through rehabilitating the lives of impoverished South Asian women. We hope that you will support us in our mission.

NON-PROF I T IN I T IAT IVEA Case S tudy : M ina Thakku rMina Thakkur was born and brought up on the streets of Nagpur, India. Growing up, Mina became the victim of continuous gang rapes; men forced her to drink alcohol, turning her into an alcoholic, while the horrific ordeal of rape led to mental illness and multiple pregnancies.

In November 2004, WIN found Mina curled up on the roadside, under a blanket covered with flies, with her hair teeming with maggots. This is where WIN decided to step in.

Over the next few months, WIN changed the dressings on Mina’s head wound every day, started her on a course of medication to control her schizophrenia and gave her good nutrition. With the cooperation of the local police, a small shelter was built for her next to the station, where she could be protected from further rape and abuse. Soon thereafter, a beautiful woman started to blossom against all the odds, finding simple joy in living again.

Many women exist like this, anonymous, alone, and devoid of hope. WIN is proud to help those women who have been allowed to fall to the very bottom of the heap, who have been grossly neglected by society and who struggle to exist every single day.

THE OPPORTUNI TYThe Impact of your Sponsorship

We wholeheartedly express our gratitude for your consideration in supporting our cause. Your sponsorship will help us cover all operating costs (i.e. housing dance teams, venue expenses, marketing, etc.). All proceeds after expenses earned from Jazba will be donated to Women In Need and be used to directly improve the lives of impoverished South Asian women.

Through your sponsorship not only will your company or organization be supporting a philanthropic cause, but will also be marketed to hundreds of students at the University of Minnesota and their families and friends. On page 11, you can find the various levels of sponsorship available to your company or organization. Common benefits through sponsorship include logos on flyers, t-shirts, official videos and banners as well as on-stage mentions by MCs. We are happy to answer any questions you may have on the different sponsorship levels and are more than willing to accommodate your specific sponsorship preferences and discuss custom packages as well.

The Target Audience

A conservative approach leads to an estimation of about 1,000 students, parents and professionals in attendance at the event. The majority of attendees will be students which will tremendously help your company or organization market to a huge mass of students at one time.

Additionally, the South Asian American community in the Twin cities area has been growing rapidly. According to the 2010 census, there were about 6,000 South Asians in areas close to the University of Minnesota. Through a conservative estimation, we expect at least 500 friends and family members from the South Asian community to attend, along with 50+ faculty, administration and local business sponsors.

THANK YOUDear Potential Sponsor,

We cannot thank you enough for supporting our three pillars of Dance, Passion and Change through your generous donation. For us, Jazba has carried more meaning than just a simple dance competition. Through Jazba we see a future of hope, change and unimaginable relief for impoverished South Asian women. We hope that partnering with us kindles a similar passion, a similar feeling of philanthropy within your company or organization. This cause has slowly emerged to be the one, common passion that unites our team and continues to propel us towards working harder and putting in our best effort in order to meet our goals. We would not have been able to start working towards creating change without your help. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or comments. Furthermore, if you are unable to provide enough funding for a specific sponsorship level, I would like to further reiterate that any amount you can provide will create a difference, and we are more than willing to work with your specific preferences.
