Speed is what sets a port apart
from its contemporaries and
competitors. We at JNPT are
committed to provide minimal
turnaround time, fast movement
of consignments and prompt
delivery to our customers. With
your continued support, I am very
confident that we will take JNPT to
the next level and make JNPT as

to express gratitude to our Hon-
ourable Prime Minister, Shri
Narendra Modi and Honourable
Union Minister for Shipping,
Road, Transport & Highways,

roadmap for progress and
development of ports under the
Sagarmala programme. I would
also like to thank my fellow
colleagues, staff and their families
for their continuous support in
helping JNPT maintain its position
as India’s number 1 Port of Call.
FROM THE CHAIRMAN’S DESKIt gives me great pleasure to share
with you the impressive and sustained
progress being achieved by JNPT,
India’s No.1 Container Port. The year
ending March 2017, JNPT achieved a
great land-mark as the total volume
soared to a record high 4.5 Million
TEUs, the highest in the history of
JNPT since 1989 and Port owned
Container Terminal, JNPCT achieved
the highest ever volume of 1.53
Million TEUs container traffic.
I take this opportunity to thank each
one of you for this phenomenal
achievement and would like to assure
you that we will take all steps that will
facilitate the EXIM trade and thus
contribute to the growth of the
country. With our persistent efforts
together, we have been able to
reduce congestion to zero levels. I
also take this opportunity to inform
you that JNPT is taking many steps to
achieve ease of doing business for
the benefit of the Trade and contrib-
ute to the economic growth of the
country. In the recent past, JNPT has
taken many initiatives for faster and
economical operations along with
automation that has helped stream-
line processes resulting in reduction
of documentations, costs and time. To
empower trade in taking the right
business decisions, JNPT has brought
about more transparency by sharing
all relevant information about the
port and other stakeholder with our
customers. JNPT is continuously
upgrading and expanding its facilities
to meet the growing demand. The
expansion of container berth and

JNPT PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS FOR FY 16-17
JNPT TO ACQUIRE 15 NOS. NEWELECTRICALLY POWERED RUBBER TYRED GANTRY CRANES
Shri Nitin Gadkari, Honourable
Minister for Shipping, Road Transport
& Highways laid foundation stone for
projects worth `1117.03 crore at
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).
Honourable Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari
Shri Gadkari informed that a coordi-
nator will be appointed to look into
the requirements of these new
companies and will help train the
local youth from Raigad and Konkan
areas to meet their specific needs.
He said the government’s aim is
to increase efficiency and improve
the development in and around
the port areas by continuously
undertaking new initiatives.
At the end of FY 2016-17, Jawaharlal
Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) continued its
flagship position as India’s biggest
container port with a share of 54%
among the major ports. The year also
witnessed major initiatives from JNPT
under the ‘Ease of Doing Business’
ambit which has translated into
significant savings in time and cost for
the EXIM trade. JNPT now ranks 32nd
among the 100 major global contain-
er ports. JNPT achieved an all-time high container volume of 4.5 Million TEUs in FY 2016-17.
The port directly operates one
container terminal and its PPP termi-
nals are operated by APMT and DP
World. The liquid traffic at the port
increased over previous year by
4.25% to achieve 6.78 million tonnes.
The port handled a modest quantity of
0.82 MT of Dry Bulk (cement) which
registered a growth of 21.01%. The
operating income of JNPT in FY
2016-17 is `1677.9 crore with a PBT
of `1303 crore. The PBT has
increased by 19% from the previous
year figure of `1909 crore. The
container terminal directly operated
and managed by JNPT/JNPCT recorded a growth of 7.5% and achieved the highest ever volume of 1.53 Million TEUs container traffic since its
inception in 1989.
JNPT has placed an order on M/s.
Sany Group Co Ltd, China, for supply
of 15 nos. new electrically operated
Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGC).
The first lot of 06 nos. of RTGCs is
expected to arrive at JNPT in July
2017 and second batch of 09 nos. of
RTGCs will follow. With the augmen-
tation of these RTGCs, 06 nos old
RTGCs will be replaced and fleet
strength of RTGCs in JNPCT will
become 27nos. (15 new + 12 exist-
ing). These RTGCs are electrically
powered as against the conventional
diesel engine powered, which will
become cost economical as well as
less maintenance and environment
friendly. These new e-RTGCs will have
two twin twenty container
handling mechanism with 50MT
capacity under spreader (as
against 40MT with single lift of
existing RTGCs). These new
RTGCs will help in improving the
container handling in the yard
and supporting the vessel opera-
tion in improving the terminal
productivity. There will be indirect
job generation in the associated
EXIM trade due to the induction
of these new RTGCs, as there will
be requirement of additional
Tractor Trailer drivers, surveyors,
vessel/shipping agents, Customs
House agents, etc.

CAFE JNPTTRAFFIC MANAGERS OF 12 MAJOR PORTS VISIT JN PORT TO SEE EASE OF DOING BUSINESS INITIATIVES
Ease of Doing Business has been a
major concern of the centre and it has
been urging all the sectors to take
steps towards achieving it. Under the
guidance of the government, all the
major ports have shown a keen
interest in promoting the ease of
doing business so that the perfor-
mance of the port keeps registering
growth and adding to the economy of
the nation. Arriving at a solution,
JNPT has taken the lead and imple-
mented Inter-Terminal movement of
Tractor Trailers reducing 10% cargo &
rail incentive reducing 4% cargo
which turned highly successful in
reducing the congestion and helped
in optimal utilisation of the available
infrastructure. JNPT also has been the
first port in implementing RFID-based
gate automation process which has
standardised the gate processes
resulting in a reduction of gate-in
time. Along with these, there have
been other initiatives, where JNPort
has initiated Logistics data bank
tagging for tracking of containers,
installation of radiological detection
equipment at all the gates, Direct Port
Delivery, Direct Port entry, etc. With an
intention to share our success stories,
a productive experience-sharing
session was organised at JNPT on 6
March for all the Traffic Managers of
major ports. JNPort also shared their
experience in handling the anxiety of
the Trade which was very crucial in
reducing congestion, as due to the
unpredictability of time Trade had
started sending their consignments
much in advance, aggravating the
congestion problem. The Traffic
Managers were given a detailed
presentation on Ease of Doing
Business initiatives along with Gate
