The 11th edition of the Japan International Apparel Machinery & Textile Industry Trade Show “JIAM 2016 OSAKA”, organized by the Japan Sewing Machinery Manufactures Association (JASMA), was held from 6 (Wed.) -9 (Sat.) April, 2016 at INTEX OSAKA.
Under the theme of “Innovative Solutions & Advanced Processing Technologies”, 258 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions occupied 1,277.8 booth units, presenting world-leading technology, products, software, and other goods and services. The show attracted 15,257 visitors including 3,667 overseas visitors from 71 countries and regions, mainly from Asia covering various industries. Some of them came by specially organized tours. During the fair, many worthwhile and rewarding business discussions were held between the exhibitors and visitors.
Various professional fringe programs attracted the visitors. Special seminars (15 sessions; equipped with Japanese / English simultaneous interpretation), talk shows and fashion events took place at a seminar room in Hall 5 and at the event stage in Hall 2. Synced with the seminar themes, solution-offering technologies were presented through exhibition of materials and finished products entitled “J∞QUALITY”, “Advanced textile technology: Photovoltaic textiles and RFID fibers”, “The forefront of silk fiber technology” and “Promotion of future fashion 4.0” at the Special Theme Zone.
Professional trade consultants were stationed to provide practical solutions free of charge for successful import-export businesses, marketing support in foreign markets and developing new export markets for local SMEs.
From various aspects, JIAM 2016 OSAKA provided innovative solutions and advanced processing technologies for both exhibitors and visitors. We are confident that meaningful communication was made and necessary information has been disseminated.
We appreciate that JIAM 2016 OSAKA was able to leave behind such a significant legacy through participation of the exhibitors and cooperation of numerous others. We would like to take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude.

From 15 countries and regions, 258 exhibitors occupied 1227.8 booth spaces at JIAM 2016 OSAKA. Of these 180 exhibitors, those occupying 1,050.4 booth spaces were from Japan, and 78 exhibitors, occupying 227.4 booth spaces, were exhibitors from overseas. Compared to the last edition, JIAM 2012, the number of exhibitors was increased 24.6 %( domestic 24.1%, international 25.8% increase) and exhibition space was increased 24.2% ( domestic 22.7%, international 31.7%) at JIAM 2016 OSAKA.
Products in ‘Cutting, Spreading, CAM’ had expanded and ‘Sewing equipment’ had grown following the expansion of the hall size. ‘Embroidery, Printing, Laser design processing’ had significantly increased. ‘Finishing, Laundry’ and ‘Inspection, Testing’ had also expanded. Products that are non-apparel related including ‘Automotive and Aircraft’ related products, ‘Interior’ items and ‘Sundry Industrial Textiles’ have newly joined the show and took up 5.8% of the total. The double figures in IT affirm that the show had presented the latest technologies more than ever before.

AttendanceJIAM 2016 OSAKA invited 15,257 visitors from all over the world. Visitors from overseas increased by 41.4% from the last show. By location 75.9% of visitors came from where global production is concentrated: Eastern, South, and Southeast Asia.
Many overseas visitors were people responsible for making company decisions, and they contributed to the general atmosphere of the show as a lively forum where business was being conducted. Visitors from inside and outside the sewing industry praised JIAM 2016 OSAKA as a high-quality trade fair, and exhibitors reported substantive business inquiries and effective PR activities. Overall, the show was evaluated highly, by both visitors and exhibitors, as providing excellent opportunities for directly meeting desirable business partners.

Under the theme of “Innovative Solutions & Advanced Processing Technologies”, JIAM 2016 OSAKA provided innovative solutions to major challenges facing the textile manufacturing and apparel related industry.

J∞QUALITY is a unif ied brand of products, every production process of which, that is, from weaving, knitting, dyeing, processing, sewing, planning, to sales, is handled in Japan. The latest information on the J∞QUALITY Certification System that certifies the technology, sense of beauty and safety of “all Japan-made” products were exhibited.
Industrial Technology Center of Fukui Prefecture/ Sphelar Power Corporation/URASE. Co., Ltd. / Matsubun Textile Co., Ltd.Texti les with embedded solar panels and an ultra-small string-like IC tag were displayed. The latest textile technology that will change your life and style was presented.
The National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences (NIAS)Shiny silk developed using silkworms and tough spider silk developed using orb-web spider threads were exhibited.
Digital Fashion LimitedThis was an upgraded version of the Age of Digital Fashion at the Advanced Technology and Information Transmission Corner in the Special Theme Zone of the previous show, JIAM2012. Visitor could see Japan ’s excellent raw materials, design capability, sewing skills, ability to create and design trends, and the latest sales tools to respond to the purchasing behavior and needs of consumers, and moreover, a scene where a new innovative streamlined world is realized through the combination of each of the above and digital technology.

JAPAN SEWING MACHINERY MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION
“Home Sewing Zone”, a zone that was catered for B to C, featured household sewing machines and related accessories, aiming to promote home sewing machines for daily usage. Visitors were experiencing a wide variety of workshops and stamp collecting campaigns organized by major manufacturers who exhibited at the zone. Excellence award recipients of JASMA’s 36th home sewing competition for elementary, middle and high school students as well as the beautifully designed one piece dresses, publicized in “The one piece dress – Tomoe Shinohara’s sewing book” and produced by the students of Bunka Gakuen University, were presented at the zone.

■Direct mailing of information and invitationsTo encourage attendance from Japan and overseas, direct mail and invitations were sent to major apparel makers and related companies in Japan and overseas, to related organizations in Japan, to overseas user groups, to the embassies and consulates of countries in Japan, to overseas trade promotion organizations in Japan, and to fashion-related educational institutions.
■JIAM 2016 OSAKA publicityIn Japan and overseas, advertisements were taken out in major trade journals connected with sewing machines and related industries. These included both print journals and online publications. Right up to the opening of the show, the campaign was conducted to gain attention and stimulate interest.
■High profile in industry journalsIn media partnership with international trade journals (including online publications), the organizers achieved widespread publicity for JIAM 2016 OSAKA. We also aggressively and widely circulated press releases and these activities resulted in numerous mentions and dedicated articles.
■Website and e-mail newsletterBoth visitors and exhibitors gave the JIAM 2016 OSAKA website high marks for the easy-to-understand information and convenience it provided. Besides easy pre-registration, as a one-stop shop for the latest information, the website provided full and up-to-date listings of exhibitors, presentations of the Special theme zone, and descriptive schedules for the programs of seminars/ event stage. The organizer also encouraged potential exhibitors and visitors to attend the show by sending e-newsletters.
■Promotion for related trade shows and eventsAmong the facilities and efforts to actively publicize trade shows held in Japan and overseas, a booth was set up, along with several pamphlet distribution points.

１. Barcode system for registering visitors.
２. Press room (Hall 4); Wi-fi, publicity materials regarding the exhibitors and JIAM 2016 OSAKA and refreshments were prepared. We also distributed news releases on daily basis reporting on the visitor figures and highlight events. Press conference was held on the 3rd day of the fair.
