Major Industries 業種• There are a few major industries in Japan. The auto

industry, the telecommunications industry, the electronics industry, and a large computer industry.

Cuisine 料理• The Japanese cuisine offers a very large variety of dishes

and regional specialties.• Traditional food of Japan is based on rice with miso soup

and other dishes.• Japan shunned meat, but in the 1860s, meat-based dishes

such as tonkatsu became common.

Main Ingredients 主要成分

A characteristic of traditional Japanese food is the sparing use of red meat, oils and fats, and dairy products. Use of ingredients such as soy sauce, miso, and umeboshi tends to result in dishes with high salt content, though there are low-sodium versions of these available.

Sushi 寿斗Consisting of cooked vinegared rice combined with other ingredients, usually raw fish or other seafood. Ingredients and forms of sushi presentation vary widely, but the ingredient which all sushi have in common is vinegared rice (also referred to as shari or sumeshi)

Raw fish sliced and served without rice is called sashimi.

There are over 10 different types of Sushi such as Chirashizushi, Inarizushi, and Oshizushi.

Mochi 餅Japanese rice cake made of mochigome, a short-grain japonica glutinous rice. The rice is pounded into paste and molded into the desired shape. In Japan it is traditionally made in a ceremony called mochitsuki. While also eaten year-round, mochi is a traditional food for the Japanese New Year and is commonly sold and eaten during that time.
