A dense film that cuts up footage of a primary plot of two young Yugoslavian girls, one a politico and the other a sexpot, and an affair with a visiting Russian skater. Mixing metaphors of Russia's relationship with Yugosla-via, intercut with footage and interviews with Wilhelm Reich and Al Goldstein of Screw magazine. The filmapplies Reich's theories of Orgone energy and analogies of Stalinism as a form of Freudian sexual repression.

Paul Giamatti stars as himself, agonizing over his interpre-tation of "Uncle Vanya." Paralyzed by anxiety, he stumbles upon a solution via a New Yorker article about a high-tech company promising to alleviate suffering by extracting souls. Giamatti enlists their service -- only to discover that his soul is the shape and size of a chickpea. His intention is to reinstate it once he survives the performance but complications ensue when a mysterious, soul-trafficking "mule" borrows Giamatti's stored soul for an ambitious, but unfortunately talentless, Russian soap-opera actress.

She slowly realizes her clients harbor a terrifying secret; they plan to use her in a satanic ritual.
