Annual Fund 2,726.95 Annual Fund to date 136,894.95 Memorial Gifts of $1,000 or more in remembrance of a deceased friend or loved one are acknowledged on the Memorial/Commemoration board in the Narthex. Email the parish office [email protected] for assistance with Memorials and commemorations.

The practice of tithing provides a regular reminder of your dependence on God. In good times, tithing helps you remember that God is the source of all blessings, and it allows you to demonstrate your gratitude for His care. In hard times, tithing motivates you to remember God’s faithfulness and enables you to demonstrate trust in God to provide for all of our needs.

When you tithe you enable those whom God has called to serve as pastors, ministry personnel, and parish leadership to faithfully build up the church accomplish-ing the works of Christ in our parish!

In full compliance with Vatican directives and Archdiocesan guidelines, low-gluten communion hosts are offered at each Mass for those who have special concerns

regarding wheat and wheat products. Directions for receiving the low-gluten hosts will be given at the time of the Communion Rite.

Dear Friends,

Holy and Happy New Year to you and your loved ones. Due the requirements of the bulletin printing company I am writing this letter for our January 5 & 6 weekend parish bulletin on December 18!

With that in mind, I will forego what I am sure will be a wonder-ful opportunity to thank many of our parishioners and friends of the parish for great support and generosity of time, talent and, yes, treasure throughout the closing of the Advent and beginning of the Christmas Seasons.

This weekend being the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, we will be reading the Proclamation of the Date of East-er on the Epiphany… a traditional practice dating from before the internet (and even before the printing press!).

In the new year we will be highlighting the next generation of leadership here at Saint Peter Parish. On January 2, 2019 Mr. Austin Flinn officially returned to Music Ministry here at St. Peter. Austin will be employed full-time as the Director of Music Ministries and Coordinator of Liturgy. Austin grew up in this parish and his love for ministry and Catholic liturgy grew here as well.

Austin is a 2006 graduate of Twin Valley High School. He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music from West Chester University. His coursework has included Music Education/Theory/History, Vocal Techniques, Piano, and Conducting. Austin begin his ministry here at St. Peter in January of 2004 as a guitarist with our Youth and Young Adult Ministry eventually becoming the leader of that group.

In November of 2016 Austin was married here at St. Peter and he and his wife Ava, moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. Eight months ago, Austin and Ava began to plan their return to the Chester County area. Austin submitted a resume and, after thorough and exhaustive interview process with our Parish Finance Council, Austin accepted our offer of a full-time paid director position.

To say our music ministry leadership team, Kathy Hoffman, Veronique Hadfield, and Will Layden, are ‘thrilled’ would be an understatement. Austin will be able to fully support the great work of these dedicated ministers. I believe that our parish values our music ministers and appreciates their commitment. Each was consulted as the discernment for Austin’s interview processed. Austin describes himself accurately as being pas-sionate about helping others improve their lives and communi-ties through the development and positive usage of strong musicianship.

Austin will have a desk in the parish office and will be a mem-ber of the parish Leadership Team with Patrice, Robin, Dea-con Todd, Mike Field, and myself. Please make it a point to welcome Austin back home to St. Peter Parish when you see him.

Also, highlighted during the new year will be our continuing consultation between local law enforcement and the Parish Pastoral and Finance Councils, and the Parish Leadership Team, regarding increased security in our building. You may have noticed the signs inviting us to use the ‘Welcome Door’ in the courtyard near the playground. We will likely begin limit-ing access to the building to the ‘Welcome Door’ most of the time while supplementing our existing strong security. We are also being advised to enhance our First Aid and Emergency Medical Response resources throughout the building. Train-ing in emergency response techniques, evacuation drills, and first aid training classes are all being discussed.

The Epiphany of the Lord January 5 & 6 2019

First Reading Isaiah 60: 1 - 6 Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. See, darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the LORD shines, and over you appears his glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance. Raise your eyes and look about; they all gather and come to you: your sons come from afar, and your daughters in the arms of their nurses.

Then you shall be radiant at what you see, your heart shall throb and overflow, for the riches of the sea shall be emp-tied out before you, the wealth of nations shall be brought to you. Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Midian and Ephah; all from Sheba shall come bearing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the LORD. Responsorial Psalm (for 7 a.m. Mass only)

R. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you..

Second Reading Ephesians 3: 2 - 3a, 5 - 6

Brothers and sisters: You have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for your benefit, namely, that the mystery was made known to me by revelation. It was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit: that the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. .

Gospel Matthew 2: 1 - 12 When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jeru-salem, saying, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage." When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet: And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel." Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star's appearance. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage." After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way.

The Serenity/AA Group meets every Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Bethany Lounge. “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the

courage to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Know someone struggling with illness, experiencing the loss of someone close, or having serious family issues? Our ministry would love to give them a handmade shawl or lap blanket made in prayer as a sign of our community's care and concern, and more importantly of God's love and desire to be with them. There is no charge. We continue praying for all our recipients at our meetings. If you would like to join us in this ministry,

we meet every other Monday afternoon and every First Thursday evening in Rooms A & B. Check the church bulletin calendar for days and times each week, and contact Jan Smith at 610-269-1756 or [email protected] if you want to gift someone with a shawl or blanket, or for more information.
