Wheat markets have resumed their downward path and are back testing contract lows and key supports. The primary bearish factor is the re-emergence of Argentina as a world exporter after the new administration repealed export taxes on wheat and corn while lowering the tax on soybeans. Argentina quickly won a major wheat sale to Egypt, far undercutting the usual under cutters of Russia and France. As a result, world wheat prices are nearing mid-summer lows. Corn is having the same problem with aggressive Argentine selling pressuring world prices to new multi-year lows. Plantings of corn in Argentina are expected to be higher than originally estimated, and their deferred offers into next spring are well below US offers. The soybean complex is primarily focused on the South American crop which is wrapping up planting and heading into the key reproductive stages. Brazil’s bean crop had a dry start but is looking at much better weather in January, the critical time window for yield establishment. Argentina has had ideal weather so far and crops look very good. The cattle complex had a huge rally on a major turnaround in prices. After being pummeled over the last couple of months, live and feeder cattle gapped higher and never looked back. Tighter market-ready cattle numbers are expected in January, and coupled with a major storm that dumped rain and snow across major feeding areas, it looks like weights will be down as well. Cash markets are keeping in step with futures as both fed and boxed beef values are sharply higher. Feeder cattle cash prices were slower to turn around but better profitability in the feedlots are encouraging placements and supporting prices. Financial markets are largely quiet as we wrap up the year. Energies continue to leak lower, testing the major low from the 2009 financial meltdown. With the huge run-up in US crude oil production, the US is expected to be energy efficient by 2020, which is obviously pressing energy prices here and worldwide, but is also supporting the dollar as our economy benefits from more disposable income. The Dow is holding well despite the FED turning the corner on zero interest rates. Our strengthening economy is attracting foreign investment, particularly since the other major world economies continue in a slowing or negative growth pattern.

Wishing you a prosperous 2016 from the crew at the Westside Convenience

Store, Kid Curry Lounge and Casino and Westside Casino.

Thank you for your business in 2015 and looking

forward to serving you in 2016!

Seven grandchildren celebrated Christmas at my house and the remaining eight will arrive on New Year’s Eve. Regardless the weather, the two to five-year-olds loved playing in the hot tub and their parents based tub time on household chore performance. An hour in the spa was usually followed by a quick shower to rinse their hides clear of bromine sanitizer. Each body was then toweled off and appropriately dressed; an event which rarely happened as planned. The instant you wrapped one in a towel and turned to pluck the second from the shower, the first escaped. Within seconds, there were five bare butts scampering around the house. I am sure there is an age where one feels uncomfortable bouncing naked on the living room sofa in front of other people, but apparently that age comes well after five. I mention age related behavior, as I always ask my grandchildren what they want

to be when they grow up and are no longer comfortable bouncing naked on the sofa. As you would expect, their dreams mimic the lives of their parents, so most of my grandchildren expressed interest in being pilots, ranchers, nurses, engineers, or veterinarians. To the chagrin of progressives, absolutely none dreamed of being a victim and this quickly brings me to today’s point. For progressives to advance Marxism they must cultivate a dependent class of victims who believe their lot in life is entirely determined by others. Once you surrender to that falsehood, logic dictates the only escape from your sorry lot in life is to empower government. Black lives matter, the war on women, Islamophobia and LGBT rights are classic examples the left will beat incessantly during this upcoming election year. Once over 50 percent of the unwashed accepts victimhood and blindly votes

to empower the very rulers who imprisoned them in dependency, America will have crossed the threshold, a point of no return. I doubt any readers could name more than five people who were born, raised and indoctrinated a progressive, but later discovered and abandoned this failed ideology. I can name one. I served with Ed in the 2007 and 2009 legislative sessions and he openly confessed his embrace of liberalism during his years as a college professor. Logic and reality eventually prevailed and he is now a red blooded, Christian conservative. Welcome home Ed. Hopefully your children and grandchildren are young enough to still have their eyes focused on the horizon. Let no one prevent them from using their God given talents to be all they can be because living your life as a victim is a pathetic existence. May God bless America and the freedom she stands for.

Fish Heads A customer at Green’s Gourmet Grocery marvels at the proprietor’s quick wit and intelligence. “Tell me, Green, what makes you so smart?” “I wouldn’t share my secret with just anyone,” Green replies, lowering his voice so the other shoppers won’t hear. “But since you’re a good and faithful customer, I’ll let you in on it. Fish heads. You eat enough of them, you’ll be positively brilliant.” “You sell them here?” the customer asks. “Only $4 apiece,” says Green. The customer buys three. A week later, he’s back in the store complaining that the fish heads were disgusting and he isn’t any smarter. “You didn’t eat enough, “ says Green. The customer goes home with 20 more fish heads. Two weeks later, he’s back and this time he’s really angry. “Hey, Green,” he says, “you’re selling me fish heads for $4 a piece when I can buy the whole fish for $2. You’re ripping me off!” “You see?” says Green. “You’re smarter already.”

DEAR DAVE, I haven’t spoken to my mom and sister in more than six months. Over time, I realized we have a real clash of moral values that has led to arguments and hard feelings. Lately, with it being Christmas season and a new year just around the corner, I’ve found myself wanting to navigate things a little better and stop avoiding them. It’s been mostly just between myself and them, so my wife and kids are pretty insulated from the ugliness. Do you have any advice for handling situations such as these? ~DaveDear Dave, Well, the good news is it doesn’t sound like you’ve had to spend a lot of time with them. So their influence over you and your household has been minimal. Still, things like this are painful. These are people you love, even if they are hard to get along with or understand. I’m not a family counselor, but my initial advice would be don’t try to change them. And don’t take discussions too deep. If you get together, just keep things simple and on the surface. To the extent they try to invade your family, that’s where you have to put up a good solid boundary. You have to protect your family and try your best to keep bad influences at a distance. But I don’t think you’re going to fix them. Probably the best thing you can do is model sanity and reason in front of them. A friend of mine who has some crazy in-laws says he adopts the bobblehead deal. He just sits there like a bobblehead and smiles and nods, no matter what craziness is swirling around. And that’s not a bad idea when you think about it. You don’t want things getting ugly if you can help it, plus the chances of you changing a lifetime of toxic behaviors in one brief interaction are very small. Pray for them, too, Dave. Then, if they ask for help, maybe you could insert some gentle wisdom. Don’t tell them what they’re doing is wrong or that they’re bad people. Just describe things you and your family have done and how you’ve handled similar situations. But until they bring it up, I wouldn’t go the. ~Dave
