BAPTISM: Second and fourth Sunday of the month,
after the 10:00 a.m. Mass. Parents must be registered members and attend a baptismal preparation session, preferably before the birth of the child. Contact the Parish Office three months in advance to schedule.
MATRIMONY: Couples contemplating marriage should
call the Pastor at least eight months in advance. At least one partner must be a registered parishioner at Holy Cross and be actively practicing the faith. If you have had a previous marriage, set no marriage date until you have discussed this with your Pastor.
CARE OF THE SICK: Call the Parish Office to make arrangements at any time for Communion and/or the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.

BEING PART OF GOD’S REMNANT
There are some people who make their living by selling remnants. They buy remnants from factories at bargain prices, because the factories have no
use for remnants. Then they sell those remnants to others at bargain prices. To the big factory these remnants are of no great importance. These remnants are odd pieces, leftovers, things that must be disposed of. To the dealer of remnants, however, these remnants are the means of support for his entire family.
Did you know that God is like that? He deals with a remnant. He is always seeking a remnant.
"Remnant" means that which remains of an original body or substance. In reference to God's people, it means those who are faithful to His original truth despite apostasy, opposition, and persecution.
God’s remnant are a people of unshakable integrity, who love truth and are totally honest. God's remnant have a deep appreciation of His faithfulness, forgiveness and mercy. God’s remnant are faithful to His Commandments and teachings, for they are full of hope in God’s promises. God’s remnant have a worldwide influence.
The world is far from perfect. In fact, some say our world has never been worse, with the amount of violence, hatred, hunger and poverty, oppression, corruption, and the list goes on. Some say: “What’s the use of trying to be a good Christian and living by Gospel teaching?”—the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, and there’s even corruption in the very insti-tutions we place our trust in to “balance” humanity out.
If you are asking this question, don’t give up. Remain part of the remnant. God has always worked His plan of salvation through the remnant of faithful people—those who held on to their faith when all of society seemed to be crumbling around them.
Down through history, God’s remnant survived as people who recognized and rejoiced in God’s plan for salvation. God has always worked through a faithful remnant. Why? Because the Lord will not water down His truth for life and humanity. While the vast majority choose ways other than God for their progress and advancement, and in the process stray from God’s truth and plan for creation, the faithful remnant holds fast to the truth revealed by God—especially in His Son Jesus Christ.
While the world sees a remnant as something leftover, waste material, material for which there is no plan, purpose, or intended use, God sees exactly the opposite. God’s remnant is the seed from which His Kingdom will grow.
Do not be discouraged when you watch the news tonight, or when you hear of tragedy, insanity, and disaster tomorrow. Live your faith in God. Be steadfast. Remain a part of God’s remnant. The Lord will use His remnant to bring His glory in the world.

FIRST FRIDAY DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART
Jesus made 12 promises to those who complete the devotion for 9 consecutive First Fridays of the month. The 6th promise He made was, “Sinners shall find in my heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.”

SCOUT SUNDAY IS FEBRUARY 5TH!
Join us for the 10:00 a.m. Mass next Sunday, February 5th. Scout Sunday is an annual event that recognizes the religious achieve-ments of boys and girls involved in Scouting. The religious achievements are based on the individual Scouting program and are designed to promote age-appropriate religious learning. Groups participating in Scout Sunday activities include, Boy Scouts, Brownies, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts.

NATIONAL CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
This year’s National Catholic Schools Week starts today. The theme is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Ser-vice.” Holy Cross will celebrate the week with
an Open House on Wednesday, February 1st, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Come see our teachers in action. On Friday there will be the All-School Mass at 8:15 a.m., and then a talent show in the gym on Friday afternoon.

THE EMPTY BOWL SUPPER is coming up on Friday,
February 17th. It will support The Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. STM students, faculty, and community members create unique ceramic bowls that are used to serve soup to those attending the supper. For a donation, attendees will be served a bowl of soup and bread, which represents the plight of those who are hungry. For $5 you can have a meal, for $10 you may take a bowl home as a reminder of your contribution. We hope you can join us.
