Presidents' Note January 2019 New Year’s Resolutions A quilter whose been quilting for less than 5 years said the other week that she is making a New Year’s Resolution to finish her UFOs. Those of us who have been quilting for many years laughed. For a quilter, it’s a classic New Year’s Resolution - right behind the other classics of lose weight and spend less money. So though many of us have already made and had varying degrees of success with that classic quilter’s resolution, January is a great time to stop and regroup. Dig out at least the top layer of your UFOs the brave will excavate them all. See what’s there. Remember why on earth did you start this project?? Which projects did you set aside because you were stuck or it wasn’t quite coming out right? Maybe you got tired of working on it. Maybe another project came along and stole your heart and this one got cast aside. Figure out which ones still call to you. That project that went from couldn’t wait to get started to this will never end, might not be that far from completion. You might even find some just need a few hours work to get that top done. There might be tops that are just waiting to be quilted. Your skills could be better now than when you originally finished that top. Or maybe it’s time to admit you are going to send it out to be quilted. Maybe you aren’t so in love with some of these projects anymore. Maybe your style or the colors in the room it was for have changed. Could the not coming out quite right quilt be saved through your ideas or someone elses? Could it become a charity quilt? This would get it out of the closet and off your not done list. Maybe someone else could machine quilt it or put on those borders. Good luck with those UFOs and wishing you the best in 2019, Christine & Dawn p.s. I dragged out my “current” pile of UFOs. I’m ignoring the ones in the attic. T HE Q UARTER I NCH P RESS WWW . Yawkey Family Inn News

I thank you all again for your continued support to Yawkey Way Home this past year. As always, your time and effort in completing quilts for children at the Home and for the Veterans quilts are truly appreciated. At the January meeting, you do not need to bring your machine if you do not want to. I will have about a dozen quilts that will need binding sewn on as well as about 8 quilts for the vets that are completed, but need the labels sewn on the back. So bring your favorite hand sewing needle and thimble and if you have a preference for thread, bring that as well. I will have thread and needles available for those who need it. I will also have several different children’s kits available if you would like to take one home as well as Pillowcase kits to complete at your convenience. The children’s kits are easy – there are squares to sew in a row, alternating the solids with children’s prints. Sew the number of rows specified in the pattern and then sew the rows together. Then just sew a border around the entire top – and you are done with the top. Everything is in the kit and more squares than you need are included. After you return it, I will then sandwich it and have it machine quilted, unless any of you want to do that, and then it will be ready for the binding to be sewn on and it is done. I also have a few children’s tops that just need borders and if you would like to take it home and just sew one border on each side to make the child’s quilt a bit larger, it would be appreciated. This does not take any time at all – maybe 1/2 hour at the most. The tops, quilts and pillowcases do not have to be returned the following month – at your leisure. I appreciate whatever you can do for the Home—it is appreciated by me and the children at the Home. Also the Veterans appreciate what we are doing at the guild – so consider helping out with an item of your choice. See you in January. RoseMary 781-646-1293

Minutes of November Membership Meeting

Co-President Christine Bolduc welcomed members and guests. She thanked the committee members

who worked on the Holiday Tea, and each member received a thank you gift of a rose.

Our January meeting will be our annual Sewing for Charity meeting. Christine said one activity will be

to hand sew bindings on some of our completed charity quilts. Members who want to participate should

bring a basic sewing kit for hand sewing.

Guild members showed their completed projects for Show and Tell. The usual raffles were held,

including our new raffle for members who remember to sign in when they attend a meeting.

Several members vended at the meeting and sold their hand-made items.

A large number of warm items were generously donated by our members for individuals in need served

by the Bread of Life charity. Joan Legor will be bringing the items to the charity.

After the business meeting, members enjoyed a catered dinner served by the members of Holiday Tea

Committee. The evening ended with a medley of Christmas carols performed by a guest singer.
