January 2019 Dear Neighbors, Now that 2018 is in the history books, a quick reflection on the progress made in our neighborhood: the Streetscape committee planted over twenty street trees, held five community dumpsters and two neighborhood cleanups, facilitated the installation of traffic calming measures, upgraded Halcot Square, and installed a string lighting project on Duncan St. and Fairmount Ave. We showed off our neighborhood through our annual house tour and two flea markets. Our neighbors held biweekly movie nights in Castle Street park and weekly Wednesday chalk nights throughout the neighborhood. BHA hosted two stoop sitting events and spring and summer cookouts in our pocket parks, and of course we capped of the year with the ever-popular Shop & Schmooze and holiday potluck. The shear breadth and depth in which our neighbors work together to make this neighborhood a beautiful and dynamic place to live is evidenced by the list above and the support (volunteer hours) it takes to pull these events off. On a personal note, I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as president the past two years. We have a well organized group of committees and a volunteer corps that makes serving in this role a pleasure. Lets work together for a great 2019! See you around the neighborhood, Andrew Andrew Crummey BHA President BHA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ELECTION Wed., Jan. 2 ~ 7:00 p.m. At the general meeting on Wed., Jan 2, we will hold our annual election for officers. Nominations from the floor will be accepted. In order to vote, you must be a member in good standing, meaning you have paid your annual dues for 2019. Your membership can be renewed (dues paid) online at butchershill.org. You will also be able to pay your 2019 dues when you come to the January meeting. The nominating committee has proposed the following slate for the 2019 BHA Executive Committee: Beth Braun – President Dan Kiselik – Vice President Dani Sossaman – Vice President Brianna McNamara – Corresponding Secretary Amy Sheinin – Recording Secretary Emily Warren – Treasurer Doug Gorius – Parliamentarian Andrew Crummey – Member at Large Greg Mullen – Member at Large Billy Motel – Member at Large The meeting will be held, as usual, at St. Andrew Orthodox Church located at the corner of E. Lombard and S. Chester St. The entrance is on Lombard St. SNOW PARKING Pratt, Lombard, Baltimore, and Washington Streets, and Patterson Park Avenue are designated snow emergency routes. There is no parking on these streets when a phase 2 snow emergency is in effect. Phase 1: all moving vehicles must have snow or all-weather-radial tires or chains. Phase 2: Parking is prohibited on snow emergency streets. If it seems like Phase 2 might be imminent, it is advisable to look for parking on non-emergency streets as soon as possible. If Phase 2 is called, and you can’t find a space, call 311 to find out where the city has designated parking for our area. Vehicles parked on snow emergency routes will be ticketed and towed so snow plows can do their job. Phase 3: Only emergency vehicles may drive on city streets.
