A Brief History of the Blackall Range Horseless Carriage Club Inc

On the 14th May 1992, Jack Warren and Fred Schluter were working on Fred’s 1916 Ford T and Jack’s 1934Austin 7 Ruby in the Shed at “Springfield”, Montville. As they worked they discussed membership of theirrespective Clubs, namely the Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club and the Austin 7 Register, and thedifficulties associated with meetings and rally attendance.

During the discussion Jack floated the idea of forming their own Club on the Blackall Range and Fredagreed it would solve their attendance problems. Accordingly Fred approached those enthusiasts he knewand Jack discussed the idea with members of the Austin 7 Register resident on the Sunshine Coast andHinterland areas. Results - 22 couples fielding 30 cars were interested.

A meeting was held at “Springfield’s”, Western Avenue, Montville in June, 1992 and The Blackall RangeHorseless Carriage Club, later incorporated, was established. Our first President, Geoff Singleton ofMaleny, was previously President of The Austin Seven Register of Queensland. With his experience, combined with the enthusiasm from the Founder Jack Warren and members, the Club has grown to what itis today. Jack approached Her Excellency Mrs Leneen Forde, Governor of Queensland at the time, whichresulted in her granting her Patronage to the Club.

On Australia Day 1993 a Static Display of members vehicles was arranged on the Montville Village Green. This was to be the start of an annual tradition celebrating the birth of our Nation.

October 1993 saw our first Mooloolaba to Montville Country Run and monies raised, quite a significantamount considering the Clubs membership, donated to the Endeavour Foundation. These bi-annual runscontinue to be held with all profits going to different charities ie; Royal Brisbane Children’s Hospital,Nambour Hospital Children’s Ward, Blackall Range Care Group.

The BRHCC regularly makes its members and their vehicles available for community functions includingAnzac Day Parades carrying Veterans, Australia Day Commemorations and local school fetes. Otheroccasions include static displays which give pleasure to the public, some of whom remember the carsfrom their youth giving them a nostalgic trip back in time. All this is in accordance with the Club’sConstitutional commitment to supporting Charity and maintaining our vehicles as evidence of our PioneerPast.

Through a lot of hard work and fund raising, in 2014 the BRHCC moved on from its original location inMontville to where it is located today in its own Clubrooms, built by the Members, with full facilities.

The BRHCC are proud to celebrate its 25th Anniversary in conjunction with the QHMC which will becelebrating its 50th Anniversary.
