It is hard to believe it is December. Time sure is flying. We are
celebrating the birth of our Savior as I write this and preparing
for a new year. As your Transitional
Pastor, I want you to know I really appreciate all of your support as I try to prepare you for your next
pastor. Please continue to pray for him and his family. Being the transitional pastor, I have to help make
hard decisions. That is why we had a survey for our early worship attenders. We received many different
responses as to why people attend that service. Many were very valid. Others were not quite as valid. The staff and
I discussed them all. We have come to the conclusion, though, that at this time we would be better stewards of our resources and volun-
teer manpower to go to one service. We really feel that since one of the issues made apparent at the church
memories workshop was that 20% do 80% of the work. We need to protect the 20%. One reason that I see is unity. Since we have been looking at Acts, the church seemed to always be
gathered in one place as God did wonderful works. This allowed everyone to experience the wonders of the Lord
together. Another reason is appearance. A sanctuary that is less than a quarter full does not look inviting to guests. They see
a church that is past its growth time. We know better, but need to show them a better picture. The last reason is one that we do not like to talk about, is security. I plan on having a team come in and lead training
to help our church become more secure. One concern I know they will have is the number of doors that we have
open from the first service until the end of the second service. Going to one service will make it easier to plan on
which doors to lock and when. I know this will not please everyone, but when we go to one service the first Sunday in January, we will also change
times a little. The new times will be 9:15 A.M. for Bible Study and 10:30 A.M. for worship. This will allow our AWANA
leaders a little more time to have a break before they return to work with our children.
Pastor Tim.
Now finally, all of you should be like-minded and sympathetic, should love believers, and be compas-sionate and humble.” -- 1 Peter 3:8
Unity is a gospel attitude. Because of Jesus’ blood, we are not only united to Christ, but to one another. When you see a church squabbling, it’s usually because one or two groups of people have elevated their own agendas over Christ’s. Unity is the biggest reason I am in full
support of moving to one service. Going forward, unity in the gospel must be key. We all must agree on the essentials, having the humility to look past secondary and tertiary issues (our preferences) if it means being united under Christ. There are some who will find reason to discourage this move, but I believe for unity’s sake we must see the good in this.

“How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!”(Ps. 133:1) Happy New Year! I know that many people have strong opinions about moving to a single service at 10:30AM. I, for one, am fully in favor of this move. Our musicians and techs work very hard all week long for their employers, and because of their servant hearts, they have also put in very early hours on Sunday morning for years. I have actually lost choir members because they could not
commit to both services and felt guilty about committing to only one. The very day that Tim announced our move in 2018 to one service, one former choir member came up to me and said she would return to choir since we will be in one service. In other words, reducing commitment levels will increase participation. That is only woman’s story. This move affects all of us in one way or another. Please take care to see the good things that this decision brings.
