It was held as a joint meeting with the Canadian Association for Plant Biotechnology (CAPB) and I would like to thank the organizers Wayne Snedden, Kenton Ko, Bill Plaxton, Sharon Regan (Queen’s University), Michael Stasiak (University of Guelph), Yafan Huang (Performance Plants), Abdelali Hannoufa (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada), and Gary Tian (GT Biotech) for their enormous efforts that they and their team dedicated to organizing this fabulous meeting. A superb line-up of speakers made the event a scientific success and the dinner tour on a Thousand Island Cruise provided an excellent opportunity for networking and social interaction. At the Annual Meeting the Society awarded several of its highest awards. Biology was given to Carl Douglas (UBC) who was not able to receive the award in person because of other conference travel in Europe. The C.D. Nelson Award went to Sophia Stone (Dalhousie University) and the Ragai Ibrahim Award for best student paper to Scott Farrow (University of Calgary) with honourable mention to Yochiro Watanabe (University of British Columbia). Plant Biotech 2016 – The joint Meeting of the Canadian Association for Plant Biotechnology and Canadian Society of Plant Biologists was held from June 19- 21, 2016 at Queen’s University
