The Season of Epiphany: begins January 6th, 2017 January 6 is celebrated as Epiphany or Three Kings’ Day. Epiphany is the climax of the Advent/Christmas Season and the Twelve Days of Christmas, which are counted from the evening of December 25th until the morning of January 6th, the Twelfth Day. Epiphany means "to show,” "to make known" or "to reveal." We remember the coming of the wise men bringing gifts to visit the Christ child, who, by so doing, "reveal" Jesus to the world as Lord and King. The Wise Men or Magi who brought gifts to the child Jesus were the first Gentiles to acknowledge Jesus as "King" and so were the first to "show" or "reveal" Jesus to a wider world as the Christ. This act of worship by the Magi corresponded to Simeon’s blessing that this child Jesus would be "a light for revelation to the Gentiles" (Luke 2:32), was an indication that Jesus came for all people, of all nations, of all races, and that the work of God in the world would not be limited to only a few. Epiphany is now observed as a time to focus on mission; of the church’s mission to reach others by "showing" Jesus as the Savior of all people. A time for focusing on Christian community and fellowship, especially in healing the divisions of prejudice and bigotry that we all too often create between God’s children. The Season of Epiphany: begins January 6th, 2017

January 6 is celebrated as Epiphany or Three Kings’ Day. Epiphany is the climax of

the Advent/Christmas Season and the Twelve Days of Christmas, which are counted from

the evening of December 25th until the morning of January 6th, the Twelfth Day.

Epiphany means "to show,” "to make known" or "to reveal." We remember the coming of

the wise men bringing gifts to visit the Christ child, who, by so doing, "reveal" Jesus to the

world as Lord and King. The Wise Men or Magi who brought gifts to the child Jesus were

the first Gentiles to acknowledge Jesus as "King" and so were the first to "show" or

"reveal" Jesus to a wider world as the Christ.

This act of worship by the Magi corresponded to Simeon’s blessing that this child Jesus

would be "a light for revelation to the Gentiles" (Luke 2:32), was an indication that Jesus

came for all people, of all nations, of all races, and that the work of God in the world

would not be limited to only a few.

Epiphany is now observed as a time to focus on mission; of the church’s mission to reach

others by "showing" Jesus as the Savior of all people. A time for focusing on Christian

community and fellowship, especially in healing the divisions of prejudice and bigotry that

we all too often create between God’s children.

COMMUNION: Tony Bryant

OPENING/CLOSING: Tony Bryant

January 2017 CWF news:

On December 6th our CWF met at the church for their annual Christmas party/covered dish

dinner and a hilarious game of Secret Santa. During a short business session ideas of ways and means

to better serve in our community were discussed. We would like to have your input on Community

Outreach. (Please call Pat Millsaps 336-924-6269) To paraphrase Dr. Massey, “utilizing all available

resources will let the community know the “who, what and where” of Pfafftown Christian Church.”

The next CWF meeting will be held on January 17, 2017, at the church at 7:00 PM (Note Time

Change.) Dessert will be served.

A Word of Thanks

A big “Thank You” to the men of the church who helped on our Church Workday on

Saturday, December 3rd. The church grounds are beautiful thanks to your hard work.

To our Church Family:

Skip and I would like to thank you for your lovely cards and kind

messages after the death of my mother, Joy Beck. It is so nice to have

the support of our church family and we feel truly blessed to have all

of you in our lives. Many blessings, Jo and Skip Stanley

A Note from the Worship Committee

We would like to thank our outstanding Chancel Choir along with the fabulous Bell Choir

for another amazing Cantata. Our guest soloists did a beautiful job, but took nothing away

from our talented choir members. Tim, you and your choirs continue to bless us not only at

Christmas, but throughout the year. I think we all felt a sense of peace as we left the Cantata.

We thank Rev. Lori Carter for her warm welcome and thoughtful conclusion. She added

just the right closing for the Cantata.

We thank Evelyn Nifong and her “special team of elves.” We can never thank each of

you enough for providing such a beautiful reception.

What about our gorgeous Sanctuary! This doesn’t just happen folks! We appreciate and

thank everyone who helped make our Sanctuary so extraordinarily beautiful.

The luminaries looked so pretty (no thanks to the wind!). Thanks to all of you who

worked so hard to make that possible. We give a big thank you to the people who worked

preparing our grounds for the holiday season.

Our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service was well attended. We thank Lori Carter, Tim

Shoaf and Cheryl Johnson for their help in making the service a success.

The Worship Committee wishes our members and friends many blessings and a spirit of

thankfulness for the New Year. “2017” is most certainly a year of new beginnings for

Pfafftown Christian Church!

Thank You….

Dear Church Family,

A great big thank you to all

the people who helped me with

the Cantata Reception. The

attendance was over the tops

and thanks to you we had an

abundance of wonderful food to

serve them from the buffet. The

guest tables you decorated were

very creative and beautiful.

Many thanks to all who gave

food and provided money. I’m

still smiling thinking of how the

entire evening came together

and how our members and

guests were so happy enjoying

each other’s company. This

congregation is the greatest and

I thank you all for responding

to my request in such a positive

way.

With love and appreciation,

Evelyn Nifong

Our next Wednesday night supper will be January 18, 2017 at 6:00 PM.
